RIP Bruce Loose from Flipper. He was 66. It's amazing he got out of his 20s, but he did.

EDIT: Christ, Atomic Steif, drummer for Sodom, Violent Force, Assassin, Holy Moses, and Living Death (which is an absolute murderer's row of German thrash metal bands) passed away too. Back to the Weapons EP and Protected from Reality by Living Death and especially Malevolent Assault of Tomorrow by Violent Force are essential. Get What You Deserve and Masquerade in Blood aren't the best Sodom albums, but solid enough.

I'm seeing reports that Thomas Lindberg has passed from Cancer

Yeah. We knew it after they took out most of his palate from the cancer (which is a horrible irony for a singer, especially one whos voice was sooooooo insane) but it still hit me like a hammer yesterday. I don't go for much Gates aside from the album above, but he basically started Swedish death metal with Grotesque (or at least helped) and Skitsystem is one of my favorite bands. Those albums with The Crown he did rule, too. My Facebook was struck with farewell posts practically like when Ozzy died yesterday.

Also, I was struck by how many people I knew -- people I have even met outside the internet -- had personally, physically, saw him play or had met him in person. And by all accounts he was the sweetest guy in the world.
