Curt McGirt Posted January 15 Posted January 15 P. Fluid, vocalist for 24-7 Spyz, has passed. I've never listened to them but maybe some of you have, so. I only remember the name but I guess they were in that Fishbone/Living Colour/Faith No More genre-hopper precursor-to-nu-metal early '90s subsubgenre. 1

Curt McGirt Posted January 20 Posted January 20 RIP John Sykes of Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Tygers of Pan Tang, Blue Murder He may have had short runs, but he wrote this bloody song so that's enough to put him in the hall of fame https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHG9wXCpdTI 1

A shame how things went down with Whitesnake, but he was part of a phenomenal rejuvenation for them. R.I.P.

And to be honest, I had heard of him first because I’m on a site that is centered around an election results database so I had seen the name from his time as an elected official in Cook County/Chicago politics I had heard his music for the first time within the last year and liked it

When he was a member of the Impressions, they were billed as Jerry Butler and the Impressions. It's really hard to get top billing in a band that includes Curtis Mayfield, but he was pretty clearly the group's star at that point. Seriously, he wasn't Sam Cooke or Otis Redding, but he was one of the most prominent "Soul Men" of the day. If you want to do a cross-genre comparison, he's a lot like his nicknamesake George Gervin, a great basketball player from a forgotten era who was everyone's favorite, but is mostly forgotten when talking about the greatest players of all time. 2
zendragon Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I feel like I didn't know the name but certainly have heard those songs
