He would like to forget about Spawn as well apparently. What's funny is in the interview is he actually talks about that. When they asked about Black Panther and all that, he was very humble about it (in regards to getting credit for the first black person to do that) because Dennis Haysbert was one of the guys auditioning for Spawn but Michael only got the role because of some interview he did. He thought Haysbert, who was clearly way more established than him at the time, probably would have made a good Spawn. Michael basically had to learn on the spot about the character. Then, New Line let the director who was a special effects guy have free rein over the film and he fucked up the film adding shit in during post-production. The cut of the film Michael saw was not the one that actually went to the theaters. As a result, he goes out of his way not to big up that film in interviews. When New Line was making Blade, they had the director on a much tighter leash. Michael is friends with Wesley so I'm guessing Wesley told him that last part.

It's fairly well known that both MJW and Todd McFarlane both pretty much disavow Spawn as they both feel that the movie should've been darker in tone and a bit less like a buddy cop movie.

From an interview MJW did in 2011:

Quote

I hope [McFarlane] does [make the film]. In the next couple years I might have to produce it myself. It's a no-brainer. Look at how these movies have done, superhero movies that have gone dark, and there hasn't been one darker than Spawn. If we do it like we want to, it could be a game changer. I think Todd feels the same way as me — that we go R. Not a kinder, gentler Spawn, we go straight R — like pushing it, pushing NC-17. Give the fans what they expect. That edge brought [the comic book] to where it is. I would really like to show what that character can be.

MJW may have to compete with Jamie Foxx for the role because he has been lobbying on Twitter for quite a while to play Al Simmons if the part ever came up.

Wait, there's a timeline where Dennis Haysbert plays Spawn instead? Aw, fuck. I want that movie instead of what we got. I've never been a big fan of Michael's personally.

Yep. Michael seems like a out of left field option given that besides the Tyson HBO film, he wasn't really in anything by 96/97 which he acknowledges. He brought up that fact that he was on Saved by the Bell for like 5 seconds and that had me rolling.

I don't think the studio will give it to either TBH. Foxx is on the wrong side of fifty and Michael is making his money doing independent films, TV work, and films being shot in Romania. If they do it, it will probably be someone like Trevante Rhodes or whatever flavor of the moment actor. There is probably some black British actor who is trying decide between the lesser of two evils: the UK film industry's ardent racism or Hollywood's longstanding racism. He'll work for 1/16th of what they'll give a Jamie Foxx.

I remember when Spawn came out I misheard the name of the actor playing him and my first thought was, "Wow, Urkel got jacked."

Urkel has turned into the Anti-Urkel as he has gotten older.  Black don't crack.

Is he living in an alternate universe where the last Superman movies were universally loved, while movies like Guardians of the Galaxy failed miserably?

Considering McFarlane's Spawn movie is going to be a Blumhouse-budget horror movie, it's apples and oranges to compare it with other recent comic book adaptations.

Not only that, but Blumhouse has remarkable horror movie street cred, so Spawn will definitely benefit from that since Todd wants a movie where the Hell part of the equation is more than just window dressing and Clown isn't just there for comedy relief.

"From the producers of the Academy Award nominated picture, Get Out, and visionary mind, Todd McFarlaine....."

New Commercial/Trailer for READY PLAYER ONE.   (Actually, this may be the Super Bowl ad, but it's up now.)

I'm absolutely seeing this, but I'm still VERY concerned that the Oasis is going to fall into the CGI vomit category that destroyed the Prequel Trilogy.

The next Mission Impossible will be called Mission: Impossible - Fallout (I don't think it has enough unnecessary punctuation in the title)

Trailer will debut during the Super Bowl

(And I know there is MI thread but I am lazy and no one reads it anyway)

I am not sure what that is because the majority of it is just the 2nd trailer.

This is the new TV spot

I didn't notice Tracer from Overwatch in the previous trailers probably because there's too much to pay attention to. I really want the movie to be good. I have faith that it will be good because of Spielberg. I fear it won't be good because each trailer they've put has been...not good.

I'm going to see it either way but it already looks like there's a bunch of needless plot changes that undo several main storylines.  This actually reminds me a lot of the Hitchhiker's Guide movie in that it's going to be all over the place and be a bit too niche for non-fans.

Well they already said that they created a new character just for the movie.

Plus with all the changes they have to make due to licensing - it is gonna be far different.

The question will be how many people realize that before they see the movie

Jim Caviezel says he and Mel Gibson are making another Jesus movie

A sequel to The Passion of the Christ - this will movie will focus on Jesus' resurrection.

Of course - Caviezel didn't stop there. He also declared the movie "is going to be the biggest film in history."

There's not much there to base a movie on... I mean, The Passion didn't really have a dramatic arc, but it had an hour of religious torture porn to fill it.

Unless there is a bunch more post Resurrection story in Catholic tradition than what's in the Gospels, there's just no story here. Women find an empty grave, aren't believed because "wimmin, am I right?", men also find it empty, Jesus appears a few times, Thomas doubts, Jesus proves, floats away, roll credits...

Gibson talked about it when he was promoting Hacksaw Ridge. It sounded like he's going to add a bunch of characters experiencing personal or political turmoil who are affected by the resurrection. I'm sure he's berating a screenwriter into figuring it out right now.
