I'm thinking this is going to divide the fanbase over some of the choices made for this movie. Interested to see what my aforementioned friend like a brother thinks (he's hoping to see the film this Sunday) and the members here of DVDVR MB.

Critics are using words like "odyssey" and "galvanizing" to describe it, so safe to assume that Rian knocked it out of the park and will hopefully be the go-to guy for all things Star Wars like the Russos are with Marvel and Sam Mendes is with the new Bond material.

When you spoil something you shouldn't spoil...

While appearing on UK chat show This Morning to discuss Star Wars: The Last Jedi, John Boyega was left open-mouthed when Holly Willoughby dropped a huge SPOILERabout a certain character.

"And the fans will be very excited because Yoda is back” Willoughby exclaimed, leaving Boyega speechless. Looking visibly shocked, the actor replied: “Holly, Holly... you can’t tell the fans exactly what happens". Willoughby responded by saying: “I don’t know, I don’t know what happens… but that is out there."

Was looking forward to that very much -- but found it disappointing personally. Will wait for more to see it on here before delving into the detail. Rogue One remains comfortably my favourite of the newest 3: the only one that felt it had the same ingenuity & scope of the original ... this felt numerously like it was trying to be too clever for its own good (although the casino scene was superb).

Had high expectations which dipped a small bit about 40-50 minutes in, it has its flaws but on first watch it’s one of the greatest things I’ve seen in my life. I felt physically and mentally exhausted leaving the cinema.

Ho. Lee. Shit. I loved it. I'll admit to being easily entertained, but i loved it. The aforementioned warp speed directly into Snoke's ship was badass. Rey and Kylo going Orton/Cena vs. Raw Roster on the red team was badass. Finn giving Phasma the "rebel scum." That was dope. I liked Rose. The porgs were a bit much, but served a purpose. I've now also concluded that Chewie was the one doing all that impressive pilot stuff and just let Han take the credit. Chewie and Rey ruining people's shit in the Falcon at the end was dope. Jurassic Park lady was a dick, but redeemed herself at the end. I think it's dope as hell that Nien Nunb is apparently the "unsinkable" Molly Brown of this galaxy. All I need in episode nine is for Kylo to die a satisfying death and for cameos from Lando and Wedge Antilles and I'll be fine...

I thought for sure that Lando would be the guy they were looking for at the casino. Sadly it was just crazy BDT and creepy Justin Theroux. I was also worried they were going to swap Rey to the dark side and Kylo to the light just because of how vengeful and hateful Rey is. They may need to tone that down a notch and have her be more in control of her emotions in Episode 9 and I'm guessing that Luke as a Force ghost will help with that.

By the way, what do you do with Leia? Does she die off screen in Episode 9? I thought for sure Rian Johnson would have handled that in this one and it didn't happen.

I enjoyed that Poe/Finn/Rose's crazy plan didn't end up working unlike most of the time in the series until I realized that their plan led to the loss of all those ships. I mean, Holdo could have told Poe what they were planning to do in the first place too but the direct actions of the heroes leading to the deaths of countless others generally gets overlooked.

Surprised and glad that Billie Lourd got so much screen time.

So ‘DJ’ is clearly the real big bad / man behind the curtain, right? Same ring as Snoke; mentioned shared history; was not the code breaker they were looking for, but had an answer to everything. Wonder if the twist comes when he dispenses with the stuttering trope and takes on more authoritative Del Toro tongue ...

Fine enough space action movie but didn’t advance the deep mythology enough — which I find the central charm. And the Luke element was akin to something from a tv show than a movie. No insight into how powerful he really was — which I’m sure is what fanboys were really waiting for ;) don’t think he used the legacy elements of the series all too well — and Ridley / Driver were both pretty flat.

I really wish they would have not done the Finn and Rose ride the CG horse things, those type of scenes always look silly. I was kind of expecting Leia to go Force Ghost at the end, really interested in how they handle Carrie Fisher's death in the next one. The ending scene with the kid and the broom was perfect and I hope that's the seeds of the next trilogy.

Also, the whole reason their plan fails and all those rebels die is because they park their shuttle illegally, which is such a Coen-Brothers-ass plot point.

I liked it on the whole, but not as much as Force Awakens.  It was a bit too long, there were too many macguffins in the plot, and the action choreography didn't really do it for me.  But all the Kylo/Rey stuff was really good and I loved them teasing the double-turn.

Re: the last scene: does that kid pick up the broom with the force?  It happened so quickly I couldn't really tell.

DJ? Who is DJ?

Also, BDT's character was exactly who he said he was. He works for whoever pays him and it's stupid to choose sides. Choosing sides is how you get killed. It's better to just be an agent of chaos.

Yep. He summons the broom to his hand.

So, I loved that. After the deep cut from Kylo to Rey where Kylo tells Rey that she comes from nothing, your parents were pieces of shit that dumped you off on Jakku so they could go get drunk, seeing that kid, someone else who comes from nothing, but has the Force made me tear up. Knowing Rey's parents did that made me really sad too.

He's right. Rey always knew, but she always wanted to be something more and wanted to be part of something bigger that she wanted to believe her parents were more important than just a couple of drunks. I think by the end of the movie she knows she can be as big as she wants.

Oh, yeah, DJ isn't anything more than who he said he was. He works for the highest bidder. Hux even says "He told us the truth." So he was questioned and sold his intel to the highest bidder.

OK, one nerdy thing that really, really bothered me: Cloaking has never been a thing in a Star Wars movie before, and now all of a sudden they're just cloaking ships left and right like it's no big deal.
