No Time To Die - James Bond XXV - Fall 2021

It really is fascinating to see how different those trailers are.

The UK is much more Bond specific, reveals who Lashana Lynch is, and barely shows what's going on with Rami Malek.

The US is more focused on Craig as Bond, very heavy focus on Malek, including telling you what his evil plan is, and sells the action more than the characters.

No Time To Die comes out this week. Here's hoping Daniel Craig's last James Bond film is more Casino Royale (2006)/Skyfall (2012) than Quantum of Solace (2008)/Spectre (2015).

I just re-watched both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace and interestingly enough I liked Casino Royale a  lot less than I liked it initially and liked Quantum of Solace a lot more than I liked it on my first watch. I actually remember falling asleep in the cinema, when I first watched Quantum of Solace.

If you have a shoddy memory like myself, Quantum of Solace is a lot better, when you watch Casino Royale right before it. I can't be expected to remember everything that happened in a movie I watched two years prior to that. ?

This time around I thought QoS was a complete thrill ride.

I already got my tickets for No Time To Die for the upcoming Sunday.

Overall, I loved Craig's performance, and Lea Seydoux's to a lesser extent. The direction, action, choreography, cinematography are all very well done.

HOWEVER, the script felt like it had many competing visions at play. It's an overwrought plot. It feels like two movies smooshed together into one. Safin isn't developed enough. Half the movie is spent wrapping up Spectre. It feels like this is Quantum of Solace again PLUS a whole other movie tacked on.

It's bit on the overlong and hefty side. I wish it could've been more streamlined. The secrets and revelations don't feel all that momentous.

I liked Lashana Lynch as Nomi. All the supporting cast are great in this, but Ana de Armas was definitely the highlight. I thought they gave a refreshing spin on the new Bond girl routine, however, her role is too small.

I'm happy that we got five movies with Craig. For my money, he is the best Bond actor of all time. Also, I liked the films taking a more grounded and realistic approach. I think that was necessary after the Brosnan films got too opulent, tacky, and goofy. That said, I think Craig's villains were never quite up to snuff, other than Silva, who was entertaining at least.

I'd rate this one a 7 or 7.5 out of 10.

Craig is great, but his Bond movies are only one for four with me so I may sit this one out, at least until cable. I think the franchise’s most interesting quality is taking a well-worn movie formula and using it to create a dialogue with contemporary culture. The problem is contemporary culture has been boring, samesy, and nostalgia-driven for twenty years. The only things they’ve really managed to play off of are Nolan movies and to a lesser extent Jason Bourne. The Craig movies needed something zeitgeisty to toy with and never got it.

Just came back from the cinema and I absolutely loved it.

Might even be my favorite Daniel-Craig-Bond movie, but I also liked the supposedly "bad" movies, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Re-watching the previous four movies before watching this one was definitely a good decision, though.

I think this will likely play much better together than individually.

Casino Royale and Skyfall were still the best individual entries of the Craig films.

I really liked No Time To Die, I would rank it behind Casino Royale when it comes to the Daniel Craig flicks. I know people are all over the place when it comes to this flim, for everyone who liked No Time To Die would this be the best "last" Bond film for the actor playing Bond?

Spoiler

If EON ever caves and does a Bond spinoff flick or tv series, they need to lock in Ana de Armas right now! She totally stole her part of the movie and I want to see her playing that character in another adventure.

I probably won't be seeing No Time To Die (2021) at the cinema. I've always rated Skyfall (2012) as the best James Bond/Daniel Craig for the story with an aging Bond out of his prime, Sir. Roger Deakins great cinematography, bringing staples back in the Aston Martin, Moneypenny, one of the best Bond baddies in Silva and the theme song. I have the movie second only to Goldfinger (1964). For me, Casino Royale (2006) is too long particularly the last third. Third act is arguably the most crucial.

As for your question, Timothy Dalton's License to Kill (1989) and George Lazenby's On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969). Haven't seen the latter in ages. Roger Moore's was bad, A View To A Kill (1985) and Pierce Brosnan's Die Another Day (2002) is one of if not the worst James Bond film. Brosnan going 1-3. GoldenEye (1995) is the only great one he had.

tucked that little bit of insinuation of "James Bond as a cuck" into the film,

and I love her all the more for it.

I didn't see it coming off that way at all.

While I'll watch License to Kill whenever it's on it's low on my list, replace Bond with Sonny Crockett and Felix Leiter with Rico Tubbs and it's basically an extremely violent Miami Vice movie. I'll add I'm not a huge fan of the Dalton flicks even though Dalton is a good Bond, he was dealt a bad hand in his two outings as Bond.

Am I the only one who loves Tomorrow Never Dies? The World Is Not Enough would have been good if they cast anyone else as Christmas Jones, Die Another Day was a mess and that's a shame because Rosmund Pike was great in it.

I will add that the only Bond film I won't jump into and watch when it's on is Thunderball, that movie is a painful bore.

Just came back from catching No Time to Die. Not sure how it compares to Spectre and Skyfall since I didn't manage to rewatch those two before, but right now I think I do have it ahead of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. It was a good sendoff for Craig's Bond. Will be interesting to see who plays the role next. Ana de Armas was quite fun for the bit she appeared in. Would love to see her show up again.
