Amanda Nunes is in the hospital due to an illness, and it looks like the main event is in jeopardy.

Brett Okamoto says it is 100% off but no official word from the UFC yet.

It was the tough call, but the right one, no matter what.  Also, the International Fight Week main event is absolutely, definitively cursed by Cthulhu.  Something like this happens every year.

Nunes looked like a combo of Maiquel Falcao and 80s character actor Sonny Landham at the official weigh ins. If she didn't pull herself out of this fight, Shevchenko probably would have a field day.

What are you trying to suggest about Nunes?  That she was doping?

She had a horrific weight cut and looked gaunt in the face ala McGregor at 145. She looked like a different person. She didn't look any better at the ceremonial weigh ins. All week, she looked in pretty bad shape trying to cut weight. Shevchenko, who is naturally small for 135, looked in pretty good shape. I think if Nunes didn't catch her within 90 seconds of round one, Shevchenko would have went to town on her.

OK when you said have a field day, you meant inside the cage.

Yeah. I mean Valentina was already a betting favorite, and after observing Nunes all week, I really couldn't argue with that unless the damage was just merely cosmetic. However, with this news, it was way more than cosmetic obviously.

This brings up an interesting conundrum for Nunes and people who are anti weight cutting: How far is too far in trying to not to go up to 145 and fight Cristiane Justino? Because I don't see this getting any better for Nunes. She already fought at 145 and naturally on the bigger side at bantamweight. If she feels this ill even when the doctor cleared her, this had to be a really bad weight cut. It begs the question at what weight did she start camp at? If the weight wouldn't come off, she likely would have missed weight and lost the belt on the scale. It sounds like she was at a certain number and then made one big push to get the rest off. If she does it again, the exact same thing is going to happen. What now then?
