Your Upcoming Good Stuff On TCM Thread

Recommended Posts

Today they're running the following:

Spoiler

The Vampire Bat (next)

The Mystery of the Wax Museum (restored)

Mad Love

The Walking Dead

The Return of Doctor X

The Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake

then segue into the '60s and '70s of British occult horror with Eye of the Devil, The Devil Rides Out, and The Wicker Man...

and then wrap it up with two ANDY MILLIGAN FILMS.

Yes, you read that right. Fleshpot on 42nd Street is apparently his version of John Cassavetes (!) disguised as porno, and then there's Guru the Mad Monk.

Today we've got Dario Argento's Cat O' Nine Tails on at 3:15, followed by The Pack from '77. You might remember the video box/poster:

Then at 1 AM Friday there's Cat People and Curse of the Cat People back to back.

Saturday morning at 1:15 AM we've got the oddball horror double feature of The Slumber Party Massacre and Near Dark. 3:30 that day the Lee Marvin noir Point Blank is on. If you're a Peckinpah completest like me then you've got the chance to see Ride the High Country at 5 PM Friday, too.

Damn, has it been that long since I posted on the TCM thread? Me and Mark were the only ones keeping it alive there. The main problem is there really hasn't been any good grindhouse stuff on the late nights. There was some Irwin Allen trash that I brought up elsewhere and there will be some sporadic Blaxploitation (I DVRd Friday Foster) but they're really lax these days. I still scan the guide every week though.

EDIT: Okay. The Dunwich Horror is on at 1:45 AM tomorrow, then it looks like we got a killer evening. We start with Brad Dourif in his starring role as a wild preacher in Wise Blood at 7 PM, then there's the Wim Wenders greatness of Paris, Texas with the immortal Harry Dean Stanton at 9 PM. Next is more Stanton, and Dustin Hoffman, in '78s Straight Time. After THAT is the Western from '76 The Missouri Breaks with Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, and Randy Quaid. I've never even heard of that but it has to be great. Then in the wee hours of Saturday morning we have our grindhouse with Scissors from '91, a thriller with Sharon Stone, Ronny Cox and a dual role by Steve Railsback (!!!), and then Schizoid from '80 with Klaus fuckin' Kinski.

Is that good enough for a thread revival? ?

There is a lot of weird and random ancient horror showing up this week in the wee hours. Stuff like Death Curse of Tartu. There's also a whole Tuesday lineup of Trog, The Brain that Wouldn't Die, Queen of Outer Space, and Hercules Samson and Ulysses.

Oooo and looking again there's a bangup double feature next Saturday morning of Magic and Dolls!

I have pretty much set my DVR to record all day Tuesday.

The trailer for Magic legit scared the shit out of me as a kid and I haven't watched Magic in years, so it and Dolls are also going on the DVR.

Magic legit scared the shit out of me as an adult. I still have the VHS around here somewhere. Dolls I wasn't as impressed by (another one I saw way too late I think) but it has a nice Tales from the Crypt vibe. Plus it has Guy Rolfe from Puppet Master III-V so that's cool.

The Stepfather is on tonight at 2 AM (finally, SOMEBODY is showing it!) and Wicked Stepmother is after if you need/want that one. Krush Groove is on tomorrow. There are two really weird ones on 6/26: Lunatics: A Love Story with Ted Raimi and Deborah Foreman (and of course, Bruce Campbell) and Making Mr. Right with John Malkovich as a guy who makes an android (?). Both are romantic comedies (?!).

Man, now I feel guilty. The ORIGINAL Get Carter is on now, followed by The Friends of Eddie Coyle. The Wild One, The Glory Stompers, and Devil's Angels are all on tomorrow. Next Friday we have the OG Little Shop of Horrors on at 3 AM and later in the day we have another Michael Caine with Pulp, then a devastating '80s noir twofer of Body Heat and To Live and Die in LA.

This is neo-Noir month so the INCREDIBLE pair of Blood Simple and NIGHT FUCKING MOVES are gonna be on next Friday night, followed by another one called Cutter's Way and then the late-nite double of When A Stranger Calls and Alice Sweet Alice! Not bad, not bad.

God, I love Night Moves... and think about it, Blood Simple is the lesser movie out of the two, at least to me.

I'd defer to Matt who has a much better memory, but I don't remember them doing Abbott and Costello before. Plus, I think some of thus years choices are people that have passed away in the last year or two who didn't have a day before.
