MASS EFFECT FRANCHISE CATCH-ALL THREAD

RIPPA

Recommended Posts

See, I should probably try Andromeda again and use Sarah instead of Scott, because one of my turnoffs to the game was about 2 hours in, and Scott, who was barely a scout, is suddenly Dollar Store Shepard with Cora, who was supposed to be the Pathfinder heir, suddenly hanging all over him, and I can't buy that, even with an AI running his skill set.  Maybe that transistion is better from Sarah's side.

I actually tried to replay the trilogy a year or so ago, and realized that I like the original Mass Effect, but I love 2 and 97.8% of 3.  The original is just a little too outdated to hold my attention, and it makes me stop playing before I actually make it to the games I love.

This is about how it rounds out for me as well. I

Settle down, Hollywood Shepardnetico.

I'm pretty sure Chakwas is on the low end of the Shepard Romances That The Community Wanted But Did Not Happen spectrum with Kasumi and EDI being close frontrunners.

I'm actually with RIPPA on this one. Chakwas would have been an interesting romance choice. That said, I was more annoyed I couldn't romance Tali or Jack as Femshep. Was never bothered by Kasumi or EDI not being a choice.

If they were to do a trilogy remaster, would you want the original games with better graphics, or would you want 1 & 2 rejigged to use 3's combat system?

Ashley is still > Kaidan

There is no catharsis in being friends and comrades with Kaiden.  You both think alike and he is a genuinely good human being.

That is why he is the prime candidate for the last stand at Virmire.  Losing him is a fucking stomach punch that hurts long after you finish playing the game.  Blowing Sovereign the fuck up felt so good because you were getting one back for Kaiden.

The challenge of wooing Ashley or befriending her is to chip away at her thorny cynicism and watch her evolve as a character and become a better person.

There is where the five star writing comes in.

It really surprises me that all of the people that claim to love this game because of characters and story investment hate Ashley so much because you took her at face value and didn't bother to cultivate that particular relationship.  She remained a xenophobe because you allowed her to.

Y'all are a bunch of lazy fucks.

As for Vega?  Vega is a muscle head.  Fuck that dude.

I wooed the resident Space Racist at least once

But the fact that so won't ever be interested in being with Shep after he rightly puts her in check for being xenophobic is a flaw the writing.

I shouldn't have to be in her pants to watch her evolve.

And she needs to get a little less trigger happy too.

But again - still better than whiny as fuck Kaidan

Eh, Ashley becomes attracted to Shep after seeing what a stand-up guy he is.  I agree that you shouldn't necessarily have to sleep with her to force the sea change in her personality, but that's the way it works out since the game railroads you into sleeping with either Liara or Ashley as both of them take your personal encouragement as a come on.

The writing got better as Shep is able to talk down Jack and Miranda without sleeping with either one of them but again, at some point you have to sleep with somebody in order to get that achievement out of the way..... and then you run another playthrough to set up your "official" storyline.

I never really saw Kaidan as being particularly whiny.   If someone fucking irradiated my home just to see whether or not I would either develop superpowers or suffer from cancer, I'd be pretty pissed off too.

Especially when the douchebags that did that to you in the first place come sniffing around to recruit you to work for them.  You can take your Biotics training and shove it up your ass, guy.

I thought Ashley was a very unfulfilling romance across the Trilogy, when I did the full (re)playthrough I pursued Liara and it was so much more bittersweet and left Ashley to fulfill her family destiny on Virmire

I think for the first time in a whil there is a characterI am comfortable playing on Gold, and that is the Tyrian Ghost. Tactical Cloak speced for Damage, Recharge Speed, and Assault Rifle Damage, Stimulant Pack for Damage, Duration, and Weapom Damage, Overload with Chain Overload, Neural Shock, and Shield Damage, and Armier Legion with Damage and Stability, Headshots, and more Damage and Stability with the Lancer. Yes, I play no fitness on gold, though I certainly stay with my teammates on this one. Basically just Tac Cloak, immediately Overload to stun, and lay in with the Lander till dead. Stick Pack like an Ops Pack regularly. It's uncomplicated but works.

I am starting to look at Solo Mastery and think it's possible. I have done the 10 bronze solos easily. Silver hasn't been much of a problem. It's just the 2 Gold solos that are haunting me. Gave it a run a couple days ago and got to Wave 8 with the Krogard. Thinking of giving a shot with the Brawler since he is my jam.

I am less than million points away from squad elite. That would be a nice feather in the cap.

N7 Sentinel Paladin with Winter Soldier build with N7 Piranha shotty was my go to Gold character.

Cryo Explosions for days and Snap Freeze specced to debuff Armor was gravy.

I also ran a Geth Engineer / Overload specialist when I did Gold matches.  When everyone can do Crowd Control effectively. everyone wins.

You are killing me with the Paladin man. Still haven't gotten that unlock. 62 character cards to go!

I finally got SMG Mastery, my first gun Mastery today. Got it with the Medals, Locust, Tempest, Hornet, and Hurricane, and I'm pretty sure I did 95% of the damage on that with the Turian Soldier. Master of taking mediocre to bad weapons and making them pretty fun. When you are pulling 20 headshots by wave 5 with the Hornet you know it's the character, not the skill. Probably gonna focus on Outsider Mastery next, and just play as the Volus Engineer, and Drell Assassin and Adept, and couple it with more Horner, Talon, and Raptor use.

I am planning to start fooling around with the Vorcha Sentinel on some Golds this weekend.  I've been crushing Silver with him, I'm just concerned with his survivability.

Vorcha characters are not damage sponges but their regen ability in the Bloodlust tree should make up for that.  Move and murder and occasionally get your Grabs in for auto kills.

If it were me, I'd spec Flamer for Armor Damage and then give the bastard a Reegar Carbine to use against shielded enemies.

Build wise, I'd go with Bloodlust (6) Flamer (4-Reach 6-Armor), Cluster Nades (2), Vorcha Resistance (6) with focus on Weight Reduction / Power Damage, and Fitness (6) with focus on Melee since the Shield Bonus for Vorcha characters is laughably useless.

I'd go for Fitness / Weight Reduction so that I could either carry a decent backup weapon or just be able to spam Flamer as often as possible.  It may get to the point where you won't even bother using a weapon because your cooldown for Flamer is so fast.

My currrent build on the VS is a super high Damage 6 Bloodlust (Health Regen, Power Damage, Health Regen), 6 Flamer (Reach, Damage, Armor Damage), and 6 Cluster Grenades (F&D, Max Grenades, and Shrapnel) with Damage and Capacity and Power Damage, and only the base 3 in fitness. You basically nailed the problem with Fitness on him: The Shield Recharge is beyond pointless, and the problem with Melee Damage is as a Vorcha meleeing should be your 4th best option close range behind Flamer, the grenades, and your gun. So if you go full fitness you are greatly weakening something else.

So so much of what makes this build work is the Flamer priming to the Cluser Grenades for the explosions, and the bloodlust is better at keeping you alive the 9 points of fitness is. I, gonna give it a run in a minute on Gold and see just how well it holds for me.

Correct.  Cluster Grenades is the odd power out here.   You don't really need the Vorcha Sentinel to be able to cause Fire Explosions on his own, so why invest the points?

Enemies panic when they are set on fire, so it is better to just be a walking Primer and carry the Reegar around to break shields quickly.

The Reegar gives you the ability to be equally effective against redbars and bluebars all with one weapon, but it is heavy so you will need your Weight Reduction in so that it doesn't adversely affect your Power Cooldown rate.  Setting shit on fire as often as possible is your bread and butter.

Your Flamer will also prime yellows so that one of your squaddies can detonate it and since your Vorcha Resistance is set for Power Damage, things will die a lot quicker when you use Flamer on them.

I'd go full Fitness with Melee emphasis so that you can continue to murder with your Wolverine claws Omni Blades to finish off any redbars that somehow survive your Flamer spam.

Okay, just did a Gold run with the Vorcha in... not great situation. With a Vorcha, a Drell, and something else even squishier. It was also against the Geth, which is the worst matchup for a Vorcha Sentinal. Had to use the Reeger more then anything. Which means close range against those stun locking bastards. Fell a good deal, but still ended up getting a full extraction.

I think your comments regarding durability are a really fair point, mainly because there just isn't a great way to raise the Vorchas health in fear. You can raise his shields but that is completely pointless. So you are completely reliant on that health regeneration.

But god damn it it is SO HARD to drop the Cluster when a I went into a quick little swarm of hunters, Pyros, and rocket troopers, flamed the bunch quickly, threw a grenade, and set off 3 Fire Explosions and got a Killstreak plus 1. The damage he does with those things is just crazy.
