ALL ENCOMPASSING STAR WARS THREAD

I mean, for the 14 or so years before the Empire was created, a Sith Lord was running the Republic and some of those early Imperial officers had to come from somewhere.  I'm more than willing to accept that the Republic was doing some awful shit even before the Empire became a thing.

Consider we see in the Mandalorian that the New Republic has pieces of shit in the government, yeah, the Republic definitely had folks doing some bad shit. I mean, it's an entire Galaxy. That's a shitload of species to pull into the government. You're going to have many bad actors.

I was about to say…obviously Star Wars had a Make the Galaxy Great Again wing.

Jokes aside, something showing how average inhabitants of the galaxy got sucked up in Palpatine’s bullshit would be cool.  Or even post-RotJ, regular people in the galaxy being shown to just be pissed about what Luke Skywalker did.  January 6 shit going on as Leah is sworn in and whatnot.

The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer.

Kathleen Kennedy doing quality work.

I'm honestly shocked we're even getting any Star Wars movie in a theater at this point. I half expected the Mandalorian and Grogu trailer to be for a miniseries.

Despite the joke I think literally none of those have been cancelled, and we actually have two on the way with Mandalorian and Grogu, and Gosling movie having been shot. Considering the decision to go back to films was made only a couple of years ago they are surprisingly on track. Now they just have to not fail which might be hard even if the movies are good given how Disney has pissed off so many people recently.

If you have no interest in Star Wars Visions (you're missing out!), at least go watch the last episode of season 3, "Black" and prepare to have your mind blown.

So it looks like Dave Filoni is finally about to take over as head of Lucasfilm, which tells me that the franchise is about to get boring as fuck.

I wonder if he'll decide the time is right to reboot Episodes 4-6 into the Rebels continuity. Ewan McGregor playing Obi-Wan as an old man, Luke arriving back at Yavin IV after the Death Star and meeting Ezra Bridger there, learning of Yoda's existence because Ahsoka told him.

OR if he'll just George the original trio and add Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla to all of the space battles. Have people yelling "For Cassian Andor!" before going into battle. Someone mentions that the flaw in the Death Star was put there intentionally by Galen Erso (even though this completely undercuts the point of Rogue One, that these are the heroes forgotten by history).

The evil is gone. ❤

I always thought she got an overly bad rep. Apparently she was a big part of Andor being as good as it was as she made most of what Gilroy and co. asked for happen even when they were basically expecting a no and having to fight for it.

I agree. The output under her produced WAY more good/decent than bad.  She was willing to let people take chances, and I'll be stunned if Filoni pushes anything(that isn't already on the books) that doesn't have connective tissue to the original trilogy.  I appreciate his commitment to knowing the canon, and I love Clone Wars/Bad Batch, but he's a one trick pony.

I think the jury is still out on Filoni. I suspect he will be more open than people suspect, but I worry he won't be hands off enough when the time comes or doesn't have the pull Kennedy had to make things happen like she did for Andor.

Filoni kind of low-key did the same thing JJ did to Star Wars; He threw out a lot of established lore and re-wrote the canon.

If you loved Clon Wars and Rebels more than anything, and want to see those characters come to live action, most likely Filoni's Star Wars projects will be to your liking. But there's a chance that it'll be a lot less experimental and a lot more formulaic, from now on.

What established lore did FIloni throw out?

If anything, I'd argue that Filoni, and Favereu, did more to  fix all the shit that JJ broke than throw out shit on their own.

I mean, I'll hear arguments for some of the stuff he did in Final Season Clone Wars and most of Rebels wasn't sticking to the "established" stuff.  Bot a LOT of "established" canon most people bitch about that Kennedy let JJ torch was the Legacy books, which, while Lucas decreed had to be somewhat cohesive to the movies, wasn't A level Canon.  And again, I'd argue that Filoni did more to put as much as he could back after JJ torched everything to show us how much better he can do New Hope than Lucas.

Everything from the Tartakovsky Clone Wars, and the EU stuff that came from that, was thrown out by Filoni. Assaj Ventress has two backstories now, the OG and the Filoni. So does Count Dooku.

You know that nuking most of Tartakovsky and pre-prequel era SW was George's call.

As said already most of this was thrown out before Filoni or never even considered canon in the first place.

Just dropped. Looks good.

I.......still don't know how to feel about this? The CGI looks pretty bad and there is too much of it. I'm not sure why they needed to show Din having his helmet removed. Again. I'm fine with it happening, just don't show it in the trailer. It still looks too cutesy, more than the Mandalorian is already. I will go see it because I'm starved for watching an actual Star Wars movie, I just hope it's as good as the series and that Timothy Olyphant is in it (I'm not looking at the cast so don't give it away) if he had time to step away from the Adventures of Cliff Booth. And I say that I hope it's as good as the series as someone who genuinely really likes damn near every season of the show. The first half or 2/3 of season 2 was maybe the most I've disliked.

I'm looking forward to it. Don't think every season was perfect, but I enjoyed each one and thought the highs were pretty nice and the lows not too bad so much as a bit annoying/disappointing. This particular trailer did a lot more for me than the original teaser as it gave a bit more of a hint to what the plot might be without saying too much.
