Finally watched the The Rise & Fall of WCW (uploaded on the WCW vault) and can't believe they were charging people money back in the day for such a shoddy documentary. I remember watching the ads for it on Raw and Smackdown and thinking "damn wish I could get that and watch it on my DVD player" and I'm glad I didn't, just a bunch of footage with uninteresting voice over, a couple of quips from the boys "yeah that was good but also bad" and no real through line for an hour and forty four minutes. Lame as hell.

There was mild optimism at the time given how they treated ECW's documentary DVD but the WCW one was really just because the ECW one was successful. Once you were watching it, saw the shorter runtime, you realized WCW wasn't going to get nearly as fair of a shake as ECW got. Extremely disappointing in the end.

Feels like the WWE DVDs became more useful for the extras (matches/etc) than the actual documentary. The documentaries are basically “what if WWE Confidential stayed on the air” on some topics.

and a lot of the extras didn’t go on the network so if we’re seeing them again, it’ll involve the Vault deciding to upload them, or us finding a DVD player that works

@Curt McGirt Have you seen Shibata/Akiyama?  It's one of the few matches where even I was like "That's out of line."  It rules.

Don't think so. I'll give it a watch later (may take awhile, busy moving into new house)

Good luck, bro!

I hate moving so much, so better you than me.

i like this doc and still watch it occasionally if i want to throw something in that's wrestling-related but not matches themselves. If you can ignore what WWE skips over, it's pretty decent. But if you're looking for an actual comprehensive timeline, this certainly ain't it.

but yeah, it 100% pales compared to the ECW one and even the AWA one.

Unreal violence. Soaked and dripping with blood and hate. This is exactly what I want out of my wrestling. Probably my second favorite Akiyama match after him vs. Kobashi and almost definitely my favorite Shibata one after his young punk run fighting all the legends at the start of his career. WATCH THIS FUCKING MATCH.
