Vince Russo would totally run some version of "that woman stabbed her man in the back to join a deepfaker" if you could believe that anybody in JCW has enough RAM to run an AI program this would be the new/modern tech version of "I'm turning and joining the heels that put me out with an injury because my face friends didn't call or visit while I was in the hospital"

Cobra Commander Posted April 17 Posted April 17 watching the Hard Cam Hogan/Warrior (this was out there before, right? I know hard cam Hogan/Andre has been out for years) there's a certain amount of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" booking to this... in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, stars from competing companies were on screen and having to split 50/50 to keep everybody happy, and this Hogan/Warrior match really did have a certain amount of mirrored sequences for these two to keep it sorta 50/50 instead of having to have one dominate the other or having one work more explicitly heel It likely depends on how old you were watching this in 1990. I didn't see it until years later. Hogan was a bit more heelish in my eyes in the promos leading up to this match. But Hogan was also more favored by the fans in Toronto. So if you were used to Hogan, you probably saw the Warrior's promos as more heelish than Hogan's. There was also the very "meta" insider element to the interviews of passing the torch that would mean something if you knew what was going on or if you didn't Then again, seeing the pre-WM8 "Hulk Hogan is gonna go away soon" programming really does remind one of why the 1993 Hogan run didn't do anything. Hogan was brought back less than a year after his big "final match ever" and then he just sorta showed up on occasion until KOTR. Also, Warrior looking noticably shorter than Hogan face to face might have messed with things. Here's your new hero, and oh yeah, i'm taller than him, brother.

Zimbra Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Yeah, that's a real cool match. Kobayashi (who has an incredible pompadour) is a beefy little powerhouse and watching him pull Andre down and lean on him for control segments is something you don't see in a lot of Andre matches.
Curt McGirt Posted April 20 Posted April 20 I just got through the world's slowest Jumbo vs. Gordy match (wherein Gordy still invents the power bomb and the Death Valley Driver) so I'll have to watch it later, but I'm sure it rules. DVDVR actually did a review of it back in the day.

Curt McGirt Posted April 20 Posted April 20 (edited) Finally just up and put Andre/Strong Kobayashi up on the Youtube TV channel. It's a hoot. Andre 'got' this pro wrestling thing pretty early on; here he is yelling at the fans ("SHUT UP") and just yelling in general. Ton of personality and selling. He puts a head crank on Kobayashi and yells "SUB-MISH-YON! YEAHHHH!" and it's like, yes fucker, submission. You're palming a dude's head like a basketball, I think that is a submission. EDIT: Oh, this must be seen to be believed. Andre plays chickenshit heel. He begs off. The face he makes in the corner as he begs off: total fear. It's so funny. And on top of all that, Spoiler Andre LOSES! It's because he gets DQ'd once and gets his leg tied in the ropes the second time, which is of course classic Andre, but it's still a loss. And the first pinfall comes from a frickin' 1972 Tombstone Piledriver! Wild. Edited April 21 by Curt McGirt
Dragon Posted April 21 Posted April 21 April 2 1988 Japan WKA Ikki Kajiwara Memorial Show '88 Festival Of Martial Arts Fujiwara vs Ismael Changani? Not much info about that guy. He was from Iran? Fujiwara stepping in for Rob Kaman as replacement, Rob was injured. So it became Pro Wrestling vs Kickboxing. They used the AJPW ring for the event. Feels like something somebody would randomly put together in a fire pro game. Maybe me. There were wrestling matches on the card, wrestlers from other promotions like AJPW and JWP. And matches of other fighting sports. https://gonkaku.jp/articles/3575
