Dragon Posted April 9 Posted April 9 AJPW Summer Action Series II 1997 06.09. Hiroshi Hase vs Tatsuo Nakano Hase is considered a Japan Pro wrestling guy or ジャパンプロレス, but he did not debut or wrestle in there like Kensuke Sasaki. He wrestled in Puerto Rico, he was sent to Stampede. He ended up in NJPW in 1987 with other ex JPW men, his made his Japanese debut in NJPW. Tatsuo Nakano is a UWF trueborn (the first UWF) He asked to be in IWE originally, but was too small for the job. He passed the UWF test later and Rusher Kimura who also was there smiled happily when he saw T.Nakano. Nakano was in UWFI but that Shoot group died and he had few matches in AJPW after in 1997. Both still on and off wrestle to this day. Hase said he won't stop wrestling until the day he dies.
Dragon Posted April 9 Posted April 9 (edited) AJP New Year Shining Series 2008 Abdullah The Butcher and Minoru Suzuki vs Nobukazu Hirai and Nobutaka Araya It's bit clipped by few mins. Nobukazu Hirai and Nobutaka Araya were WAR dudes. Both of them had training from Tenryu. Hirai joined AJPW in 1999, under Misawa's leadership as a new trainee. He left without wrestling a match, he rejoined later. Edited April 9 by Dragon

Gotta be some week of dying days Worldwide where nobody gave enough of a fuck to tape it I thought to myself recently that it's a tell of how much in the shitter the Kansas City territory was by mid-1986 that even when JCP was arguably at its hottest took the territory over that there are still very few episodes in circulation of the post-JCP takeover "NWA All-Star Wrestling" broadcast for the rest of 1986 and 87 because no one was trading that footage on even a curiosity level at that point. I did a watch of the aforementioned NWA Dallas run recently and it was a shockingly fun week-to-week watch, even if you had to stomach some very green Dallas-area guys on the undercard and you could tell that Kevin Von Erich's heart just wasn't in this wrestling thing anymore. And the "protege" that Akbar revealed the following week was... Spoiler KEVIN VON ERICH. That angle the week before was supposed to be an Akbar face turn, even if the crowd reacted favorably to Valentine and Bart assaulting him. Akbar bragged about having so much money he could buy off a Von Erich, and Kevin cut a half-hearted promo about how he's had his wars with Akbar, but when Akbar says he is going to do something, he does it, as the justification for aligning with Akbar.
hammerva Posted April 10 Posted April 10 (edited) Tells you how times have changed because it looks like the 1995 version of this FanFest was done in a mall. Also funny that one of the "fans" at the Fest was former ECW and I believe WWE employee Lance Wright Edited April 10 by hammerva
Elsalvajeloco Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Apparently, they did it at the arena (the Hartford Civic Center). It's just that the arena doubled as a convention center before Hartford got their own standalone convention center and was actually connected to a mall at one point. So yeah, technically, it was at the actual venue where Mania was being held and a mall.
clintthecrippler Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Even as late as 2005 here in Los Angeles, there were random years where Axxess was just a kiosk display in a local mall. All I really remember from L.A. is they had Andre The Giant's boots in a display, Hillbilly Jim was the only ex-legend signing during the time period we were there, and one of the idiot mall staffers invited me and my friend to "referee" the matches at the "Record Your Own Commentary" booth, because apparently that's what she thought the announcers on TV wrestling did. 1
Elsalvajeloco Posted April 10 Posted April 10 I was watching a video talking how a bunch of people were Barbie Dream Fest was a giant disaster and basically a con to get people's money. Then, I thought about what they were promising. Based on what they were promising, they would have had to come out of pocket with some insane amount of money that probably wouldn't have been worth it. There was no way they wouldn't underdeliver. IMO The WWE could get away with a less than stellar fan experience or just plain not doing it all especially in an effort to cut costs. I mean it's not like WrestleMania is still 2 1/2 hours long like it was 25-30 years ago. So you're getting more for your dollar anyway. However, if the city is going to give you money to host an event now over two nights, you might as well do it to make it feel more special than the average event.
Web Conn Posted April 10 Posted April 10 I find WrestleCon to be more fun the The WWE “fan experience” or Axxess or whatever they call it

The Big Event shows way out on Long Island in Suffolk County are a lot of fun too (they were even more fun before they moved out of Queens ).
Web Conn Posted April 10 Posted April 10 No books? Highspots had a whole room full of books at last years Mania WrestleCon which I didn’t see and my brother didn’t tell me about cuz he didn’t want to be there and I quote “all fucking day” 1

Glad to see it's changed since.

hammerva Posted April 11 Posted April 11 It really is a mixed bag when it comes to Wrestlecon shows. Sometimes you go and there are plenty of merchandise like shirts, magazines, cards, and stuff. Other times the only merchandise is at the autograph tables. You hope you get lucky and people like New Japan and some indies do merchandise. If not then all you got is Highspots. Which is good but massively overpriced
Elsalvajeloco Posted April 11 Posted April 11 If Vince would have saw this before he signed with WWF, that bodysuit would have probably been the least of his worries.

Cobra Commander Posted April 11 Posted April 11 I'm guessing it was a booking decision but it's sorta interesting that Giant Gonzalez worked some of the 1993 WWF European tour, but not the shows in Barcelona or Italy (it looks like they were running two shows a day and once it got down to one show a day, some of the guys got to go home including Jorge)... As an Argentinean, Gonzalez would have loved working in a country that spoke his language... that county being Italy, of course. Presumably Lionel Messi wasn't watching Giant Gonzalez matches in 1993 and I don't think the WWF TV was doing the Great Khali thing where Giant Gonzalez was a babyface in any shows that they sent specifically to South America Flying over the ocean in a plane had to suck for him. Anyways, this match was already in a longer video but here it is on it's own, the awesome Vader vs Boss match would Vader vs Ray Traylor be like if George Foreman and Ron Lyle kept fighting each other in the 70s? 1
