Our station manager found out a few of us were wrestling fans and told us that Savage used to pop in the station to drop off tapes back when they ran ICW. A guy I worked with in Louisville used to direct some ICW tv tapings. I think they were in Lexington. He used to hang out with the wrestlers some. He said after he’d moved to Louisville, Randy would call him when they were coming through town to hang out. Said Savage was the nicest guy.
Cobra Commander Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 (edited) Wonder if there’s an alternate universe where Macho Man Randy Savage was bound for promoting shows like his father if not for becoming so famous in the WWF. Meanwhile, I’m gonna have to watch this 1991 episode of Superstars on the Vault to see how/if they work around the show still being called “Superstars of Wrestling” which is why they don’t stream SOW due to the lawsuit that made them change the name. https://youtu.be/HF7OmDVpir8?si=PBPlTaVyFnYJA6JB edit: they're working around the issue by just muting "Of Wrestling" Edited July 19, 2025 by Cobra Commander
odessasteps Posted July 20, 2025 Posted July 20, 2025 I know Tony Richardson was posting about yesterday as he was watching ICW live at the time.

Totally awesome and madcap stuff from the Tommy Rich/Buzz Sawyer feud. Piper goes absolutely nuts and does the bottle trick. Buzz drinks raw eggs and it's totally disgusting. There's a wild brawl that has people chanting "2! 2! 2!" for Mr. Wrestling II, and then they show early footage of RICK RUDE destroying a jobber with the sickest Rude Awakening ever.
Cobra Commander Posted July 20, 2025 Posted July 20, 2025 (edited) Time for some Sunday Afternoon World Wide Wrestling (7/20/1985): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCAXSSXknlg Quote We open up with Jimmy Valiant against Joel Deaton. Quick win with the elbowdrop for Boogie Woogie. Dusty Rhodes has Baby Doll and he has taken her to Nelson Royal's ranch to make a woman out of her. She's shoveling out a horse stall as a confused dog looks on. Sure is a lot of traffic outside of that place. Baby Doll wants to learn how to ride a horse. We'll find out later if Baby Doll knows how to ride a horse! JJ Dillon and Buddy Landel joins David Crockett. JJ insists he didn't hand Buddy anything while footage of JJ giving Buddy knucks is shown. Denny Brown with his fancy Jr Heavyweight belt is gonna get squashed by the Barbarian. All the mentions of the Ragin Bull makes me wonder how many indy guys have worked as the Cajun Bull. Or would that be Cajun Buell in French? Looking like we're in a nifty high school gym this week. Or whatever the Timken Physical Education Center in Gaffney, SC is. Barbarian wins with the diving headbutt. Our station of the week is WOLO in Columbia, SC. A great card tonight in the Columbus Municipal Auditorium. Black Bart has words for Pistol Pez. Black Bart can bring his horse to this match. Kevin Sullivan is slumming it in South Georgia and is facing Dick Slater. Sullivan likes to bury people in sand. Jim Cornette has some words for Buzz Sawyer (boy, does he, considering why Buzz was about to be fired from this promotion). The Rock'n'Rolls are the new champions and they're in action today. The fans of South Carolina are thrilled by Ricky Morton's rana. George South eats a double dropkick and the RNRs win. The Russians talk to David Crockett. Khruscher saying USA stands for "Useless Stinking Americans" is such a Darsow phrase. Manny Fernandez with David Crockett. Paul Jones comes out and then Barbarian and Superstar jump Manny. Buddy Landel is facing Mark Fleming. Baby Doll rides Floyd the horse around a bit before Baby Doll escapes to freedom. Kendo Nagasaki taking on Magnum TA. Magnum wins quick with the Belly to Belly. Pistol Pez has words about Black Bart for their No DQ match. Dick Slater has words about Kevin Sullivan. Buzz Sawyer has words about Jim Cornette. Babyface Buzz with the look of "what if Vader was skinny, insane, and on steroids". Rock-n-Rolls with Crockett and they agree to stick around and commentate the match with the Russians. Starship Eagle and Lee Ramsey found a flag to taunt the Russians. Russians win with a doubleteam. We finish with Dusty and Nelson Royal talking in a dark room the 4WrestlingFans upload of this episode ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sg1USUQ2d3M ) is 1:33 instead of 48 minutes long because they go to the 7/27/85 Worldwide but the final shot of the episode is on the 4WF upload but not the Classic Wrestling Stuff upload: Edited July 20, 2025 by Cobra Commander 1 1
odessasteps Posted July 20, 2025 Posted July 20, 2025 One of my favorite angles, especially when you hear what happened to Floyd. 1
Cobra Commander Posted July 20, 2025 Posted July 20, 2025 the WCW Vault uploaded BATB 2000 (with certain promos left uncensored) for anybody wanting to watch that for some reason 1
Curt McGirt Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 Matt D directed me to this because I wanted to watch that Yamazaki match he reviewed and this card apparently also has Norman Smiley vs. freakin' Bart Vale so I figured some of the rest of you would like to see it. Maeda/Takada too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCW6dwBMsm4&ab_channel=JCSatire

Cobra Commander Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 (edited) 5/12/1997 Nitro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3V9L9BGHKU I'm amused by the whole Mongo/Jarrett/Debra dynamic.. Reggie White hitting a splash on Mongo where he's dropping his crotch onto Mongo instead of his chest... Mongo/Jarrett/Debra makes me think it's been long enough for someone to rip off the Dale/Nancy/John Redcorn thing from KOTH (although... well, 2 of the 3 voice actors of that are dead too, so..) also a collection of "strange" Summerslam Matches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLzlvpJnhfY the list of 'strange' Summerslam matches- Quote Bray Wyatt vs Kane in a Ring of Fire match (2013) Ken Shamrock vs Steve Blackman in a Lion's Den Match (1999) Eddie Guerrero & Chyna vs Val Venis & Trish Stratus in a Intergender tag team match for the WWF Intercontinental Championship (2000) The Undertaker vs Giant Gonzalez in a Rest In Peace match (1993) Shawn Michaels vs Rick Martel (Can't hit in the face) (1992) Santino and Beth Phoenix vs Kofi Kingston and Mickie James in a Mixed tag team match for the WWE Intercontinental and WWE Women's Championships (2008) Big Bossman vs The Mountie in a Jailhouse Match (1991) Ronda Rousey vs Shayna Baszler in an MMA Rules match (2023) Edited July 21, 2025 by Cobra Commander
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 That Rest In Peace match is just so shitty but also in a vacuum has that WWF magic where it kinda works? Gonzalez doesgive Taker the worst bodyslam I've seen in a while. After just a shitty normal match, Vince is like "I guess now we know what a Rest in Peace" match is!!!!!" Yes, it did kill any interest in watching the rest of this video. I also really love how Undertaker hits the ropes.
Cobra Commander Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 imagining them realizing they couldn't make a casket large enough for Gonzalez and to save their large casket efforts for the upcoming match with Yoko
daveprazak Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 We posted the main event segment from SHIMMER 70 (from October 2014) on YouTube. It starts as a singles, turns into a tag, then finally Nicole Matthews & Portia Perez & Cherry Bomb & Kimber Lee vs. Kellie Skater & Tomoka Nakagawa & Jessicka Havok & Madison Eagles. 4
Cobra Commander Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 HBK vs Razor from Summerslam 95: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjVqTVh6V1I amused that the basic on-screen story of why this match was held was essentially "it'd be better than HBK vs Sid at Summerslam"

Why they did the 180 because they realized that card was shit and you couldn't just headline a card with Diesel vs. Mabel is beyond me. I don't think anyone one really bought Razor who had been a babyface for two years was suddenly just really competitive with Shawn and would do anything to win. Keep in mind, the Shawn vs. Sid thing only sprung up cause they did a 180 and turned Shawn after WrestleMania XI. However, that was lukewarm to the Shawn/Razor frigid cold story.
Cobra Commander Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 of course the Shawn/Sid match was delayed to Raw and that was mainly known for Bischoff spoiling the result on Nitro the Diesel/Sid booking was also super-weird where they did that match twice on In Your Houses but had a tag match on King of the Ring

Me and my cousins decided to go to SummerSlam live because they added the ladder match, the novelty of the first PPV in Pittsburgh wasn't enough when the big matches were Diesel v Mabel, Shawn v Sid and Bret v a dentist.

I think they would have done well attendance wise, ladder match or no ladder match. WWF at that time rarely struggled when it came to PPV attendance, which is funny considering they were putting out some all time bad stuff. Plus, I believe that was when they decided to spruce up some of their production for their live events. And ironically, considering what they did for Diesel/Mabel, Taker/Kama, and Shawn/Razor, Bret vs. Isaac Yankem may have been by default the best built up program just cause Lawler/Bret had been going for TWO YEARS by then.
Dragon Posted July 24, 2025 Posted July 24, 2025 Hulk Hogan’s Unreleased Collectors’ Series https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iIMBCxfPVEE&pp=0gcJCccJAYcqIYzv
Cobra Commander Posted July 25, 2025 Posted July 25, 2025 Hogan/Andre from MSG gets JR/King on commentary because it originally didn't air on TV (it did air on All-American Wrestling shortly before Hogan came back to the WWF when All-American was a show for the WWF tricking other promotions into sending footage of their guys so WWF fans would see them before they went to the WWF) a bunch of the 1980 Shea show was aired in some form over the years but I wonder if they have full footage of any of the Shea shows to put them on the Vault (okay, maybe we don't NEED to see Bruno and Pedro go for 65 minutes but..)
Dragon Posted July 25, 2025 Posted July 25, 2025 Best of Hulk Hogan stream starting soon, from the WWE Vault https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iaua9aoRzu0
Cobra Commander Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 Watching some old wrestling WWF Championship Wrestling (7/26/1986): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-39_hPwnqeo Quote The phrase "Recognized symbol of excellence in sports entertainment" is right there for any heel groups to use. It's the summer of 1986 and they're still using "Thriller" with clips of Hulk Hogan winning the title in 1984. Vince and Bruno are here. The Rougeau Brothers are making their Championship Wrestling debut. "The Rebel" Dick Slater is debuting. Paul Orndorff is in the Flower Shop. Tiger Chung Lee and AJ Petrucci are teaming up to get murdered by the British Bulldogs. Howard Finkel cut-in to tell us that Macho Man Randy Savage will be facing Pedro Morales in Lowell, Massachusetts. Last week on Championship Wrestling, Paul Orndorff turned heel on Hulk Hogan. Bulldogs win after Dynamite does a headbutt to Petrucci by jumping onto Tiger Chung as Davey Boy had him in a fireman's carry. An update from the pages of the World Wrestling Federation Magazine: Jack Tunney is here to clarify about Andre the Giant's suspension. Hey, Ken Resnick is in the WWF as part of the WWF's goal to raid every non-Gagne family member from the AWA. Jack Tunney insists the Giant Machine could be Giant Baba. Magnificent Muraco taking on Mario Mancini. Corporal Kirschner! Ricky Steamboat! Greg Valentine! Nikolai Volkoff! Midgets! all in Lowell on August 13th! Here's Lanny Poffo to diss Magnificent Muraco through poetry. Amazing how they kept Lanny as a face until 1989. Muraco wins with the Tombstone. I think Mario Mancini is in the club of people to take a Tombstone from Muraco and the Undertaker. Ken Resnick here to talk about the show at the Boston Garden. Cowboy Lang vs Lord Littlebrook! Our main event is Randy Savage and Adrian Adonis vs Hulk Hogan and George Steele. Also, Ricky Steamboat vs Jake Roberts. Jake Roberts with an open head wound. "You don't race trains". The Gladiator taking on Confederate Babyface Dick Slater. This is a mismatch of gimmick, face/heel status, and promotion. The Gladiator would be Rick Hunter. I guess it's nice of the WWF to not bring Dick Slater in to be Jimmy Jack Funk. Dick Slater wins with a Russian Legsweep. Between Dick Slater and Honky Tonk Man, it was a fine summer of WWF babyfaces that weren't meant to be. That Russian Legsweep kinda stunk. Sheik and Volkoff are here to talk about the Hart Foundation after Resnick runs down the card. Hey, the Bulldogs wanted to drop the belts to the Harts instead of Sheik/Volkoff, just thought of that with the Hart Foundation facing Sheik/Volkoff. We join Moondogs vs Rougeaus in Progess. What went wrong that they had to trim time out of this match. The Moondogs here being Colley and Latham. Rougeaus win. Paul Orndorff is in the Flower Shop and he's back with Bobby Heenan. Tom Tatri is here to lose to Jake Roberts. There is no give in this ring, holy hell. Tatri actually got a move in (he reversed an Irish Whip and got clotheslined). Jake wins with the DDT and he dumps Damien on Tatri. Vince teasing Bruno about the Damien coming at him. Imagine all the Italians if Jake dumped Damien on Bruno Sammartino. Giant Machine insists that he isn't Andre the Giant. Here's some six man action as Steve Lombardi, Mr. X and Rusty Brooks, the Triple Threat of Job Guys, take on Ricky Steamboat, King Tonga, and Sivi Afi. Ricky carrying out a big-ass kimono dragon cage. Sivi Afi has a lit torch and he's doing tricks with fire. He literally does stuff with fire and still he isn't over. Next week we will hear from Hulk Hogan. Freddie Blassie joins the booth to tell us that he's selling half of Sheik/Volkoff's contracts (so he can retire and Slick can be a thing). You don't get "dudes dropping into the commentary booth to talk about their own angles" these days. Ricky Steamboat hits the crossbody on Rusty Brooks for the win. Hulk Hogan doing a local promo for the Boston Garden. Captain Lou is doing a promo for George Steele in a separate location. Next week on Championship Wrestling: Hulk Hogan talks! Bundy and Studd are in action! Rotundo and Spivey! The Hart Foundation! Billy Jack! Harley Race! 3
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 Watched that last night. I loved the local promos, especially Shieky Baby. Vince and Bruno are hilariously awkward at times on commentary. Really fun show.
