PetrolCB
Great way to start off the month with MTV Classic starting today. Old videos, shows, etc. It's about time. Now they just need a Nickelodeon Classic station and all will be well.
Matt D
I thought they were making one but it was more Rocko's Modern Life than Out of Control so it's a third of a generation after me.
PetrolCB
Yeah, they do show some of the older stuff, but rarely. While the old, old videos are enjoyable, I'm looking forward to Beavis and Butthead and the re-airings of Unplugged mostly. The Oasis one is on tonight, which I haven't seen in ages since my vhs dub was ruined. It's a shame the channel isn't in HD though. A bit lame, if you ask me. AxB
If the old footage wasn't shot in HD, there's no point broadcasting it in HD. They did a thing on Match of the Day a few years ago, where they were celebrating 50 years of the show by showing the Goal of the Season for every year it had been on. The footage from the 60s & 70s (shot on film) looked good. The footage from the 80s & 90s (shot on video) looked awful in HD, and OK in standard definition. All the fading and dodgy pixels and interference and the blurring in perfect detail, and the actual images behind the interference barely legible. Brian Fowler
Personally I loved VH1 Classic and I'm going to miss long having long blocks of heavy metal.
Casey
I miss when FUSE was filled with actual shows that had music videos featured in some way. Especially Uranium.
J.T.
We all know why you especially miss Uranium, Casey.. I also loved VH1 Classics, especially the afternoon rerun block of 120 Minutes / IRS: The Cutting Edge.
PetrolCB
Yeah, the 120 Mins blocks were great. They're still going to air them, but most likely merged with their new alt 80's dedicated block now.
J.T.
I am pleased to see Aeon Flux in the line-up but whose ass do I have to kick to get Stevie & Zoya, The Running Man, MTV's Oddities (The Maxx / The Head) and The Specialists back on television? J.T.
Yeah, I am not really giving a fuck about Van Helsing being The Walking Dead with vampires: That show looks like it will be badass. I'd rather have seen this Van Helsing in theaters as opposed to the Hugh Jackman Van Helsing abomination aka Castlevania: The Movie for gimps.. Curt McGirt
Damn so VH1 Classic is now MTV Classic? I thought they'd at least keep VH1 Classic and just add a new channel. As long as I get to see Liquid Television in full then I'm down; the Classic stuff was pretty stale after the last run of Behind the Music Remastereds that mostly focused on metal. That Metal Show deserved to be cancelled and I still hold a grudge over them cutting the "Extreme Metal" installment of Metal Evolution out of the series (fucking wimps). As far as Metal Mania, I could just turn the channel to Hair Guitar and hear the same songs. Recently it seemed like they were more preoccupied to airing movies they had cheap rights to than anything else. EDIT: Nevermind. They just went from "Hold On Loosely" to "Break Stuff" on the videos. Back to Archer it is...

Curt McGirt
Heh, now they're doing an hour-long retrospective on TRL. But then all day until Daria/B&B/Aeon Flux is Unplugged, including the Neil Young one where he was a huge pain in the ass! The Cure did an Unplugged? Awesome. J.T.
Liquid Television was hit or miss for me. I could stand them cutting out Art School Girls of Doom, Winter Steele, or Dog Boy in favor of Grinning Evil Death and the stuff I mentioned in a previous post. Oh, and I'd add the entire run of Stick Figure Theater. Downtown wasn't on Liquid TV, but it deserves a re-broadcast.
Curt McGirt
Liquid TV was right before my time so all I remember is commercials for it. The State, however, BETTER be on there. And ditto for The Maxx and The Head.
J.T.
I need to check the schedule to see if there will be any rebroadcatsts of Yo! MTV Raps!
J.T.
If they are going to do classic Nick, please stick to the afternoon shows. The fucking five hour block of Pinwheel followed by the Today's Special / Eureka's Castle double shot was the worst thing about spending summers at home babysitting my kid brother. It took forever to get to Danger Mouse / Spartacus / The Tomorrow People / The Third Eye. Every year when they slime someone at the Teen Choice Awards, I secretly hope that Moose, Kevin, and Lisa show up for a cameo.
Curt McGirt
I woke up every summer morning to David the Gnome. Kids these days do not understand the suffering we had to endure.
odessasteps
I'd be curious to see how Remote Control holds up 25 years later.

It will be fine as long as it sticks to the Marisol Massey hostess episodes and mutes the volume every time Colin Quinn speaks. That show was so subversive. I still love the timed lighting round aka Beat The Bishop.

Kuetsar
I have fond memories of watching Today's Special on PBS when I was young. I remember being pissed when it replaced the Polka Dot Door. I was probably five at the time. . .
Spritenaut 32
I vaguely remember Remote Control, but not very well apparently. I had no idea they had a "hostess" (that's what Wikipedia calls them, anyway) besides Kari Wuhrer. I was really surprised to learn that Alicia Coppola got her start on Remote Control. She's not unattractive or anything, but I would never have guessed her first break was basically a spokesmodel gig on a show aimed at horny teenagers. Is she the most successful regular from the show (I don't think Sandler or Leary were ever regulars)?" Coppola isn't a big star, but she's been a regular on several shows and seems to pop as a guest star at least a few times a year. I imagine she gets a decent-ish paycheck from acting roles. She's been working on a soap opera this year and apparently was just cast on Shameless. Whatever happened to Ken Ober? I've caught Colin Quinn doing stand-up a few times over the years.
