[Best of] THE TOP 330 MOVIES OF THE 1990s

RIPPA

Recommended Posts

I am pretty sure I forgot to vote for DM, but Simon Phoenix was the one of the top five best villains that the 90's ever produced.

For somethign billed as a forumlaic action movie, DM was pretty fucking brilliant.

I love Ghost Dog so yeah, I probably screwed that pooch, too.

Here is how the Three Colors movie broke down

2 people voted for all 3

2 people voted for Blue and Red

1 person only voted for Blue

1 person only voted for Red

Unfortunately, I haven't gotten around to watching Red or White in the last few years, so I was the lone Blue vote.

110) THE LAST OF MOHICANS
1992 - 356 Points - 7 Votes (Highest Vote: #13 Kawada)

DIRECTOR: Michael Mann
STARRING: Daniel Day-Lewis, Madeleine Stowe, Russell Means
Placement On Original List: #62 (6 Votes)

NOTE FROM RIPPA - Kawada had this #3 last time. Clearly he hates it now.

DIRECTOR: Coen Brothers
STARRING: Tim Robbins, Paul Newman, Jennifer Jason Leigh

More than made up for by Affleck's spectacular performance.

I fucking hated Dogma. I have my issues with organized religion, too, but I'm not a dick about it.Dogma would've been more bearable with less smarmyness and more Alan Rickman and Linda Fiorentino

108) AUDITION (Odishon)
1999 - 358 Points - 8 Votes (Highest Vote: #7 Jingus)

DIRECTOR: Takashi Miike
STARRING: Ryo Ishibashi, Eihi Shiina, Tetsu Sawaki
Placement On Original List: #136 (5 Votes)

NOTE FROM RIPPA - I still always wonder if the controversy over the release date affects the vote.

107) EL MARIACHI
1992 - 358 Points - 6 Votes (Highest Vote: #12 Brian Fowler)

DIRECTOR: Robert Rodriguez
STARRING: Carlos Gallardo, Consuelo Gómez, Jaime de Hoyos
Placement On Original List: #99 (8 Votes)

NOTE FROM RIPPA - Rotten Tomatoes lists this as 2001 which might be the biggest difference of any movie I have seen. It is even more amusing when you read the description on RT and the first line talks about the movie being an early 90s movie. Long story short - I hope you don't rely on RT for release years.

Fuck.  No more erudite analysis.  I will vote with my heart from now on which means that Coffy, Shaft, or Cotton Comes To Harlem will end up being Number One in a future do-over of the Best of the Seventies Poll.

Seth Gecko is one of the best characters ever and the epitome of the anti-hero that is so popular these days.

One of Clooney's finer performances IMO because he is soooo cast aganst type, so it would not surprise me if I checked my ballot and found out that I did not vote for FDTD.

FDTD is infintely quotable. Capitalizing threats with "or I will turn this place into the fucking Wild Bunch" is part of my normal diction right along with "Someone's about to get a fucking slap" from Layer Cake.
