Whats funny is that Barbarella is now rated PG.

I would put Road to Perdition and A History of Violence prob as my top 2.

I tried to keep my picks fairly mainstream as far as the sources go.   Not too many people I knew realized that Road to Perdition and History of Violence were actually based on graphic novels.  I agree that they are great movies that deserve to be high on someone's list.

Only old guys like us remember Barbarella.

Where's The Crow? For me, it's in the top five comic book films ever. It's one of my favourite films period.

I'm not gonna count anime movies, because that opens up a HUGE side category which is easily large enough to be its own separate thing. Just listing live-action adaptations, I'd rank 'em something like this:

1. Cemetery Man

2. Sin City

3. Oldboy (2003)

4. The Crow

5. Road to Perdition

6. Blade 2

7. A History of Violence

8. Punisher: War Zone

9. Deadpool

10. Constantine

Finally, add 1982's Conan the Barbarian on there as an asterisk, if you can count it (the character first appeared in pulp novels, but he was in a whole shitload of comics over the years).

Fowler is right about Ghost World.

Does Snowpiercer count?

Ooh, shit, yeah it does, good catch. Throw that one in my list at #4 and knock all the others down a peg.

EDIT: aw fuck, I just thought of an example which pretty much does an "etch-a-sketch in an earthquake" on everyone's list: the entire Lone Wolf & Cub series is based on a manga. That's six badass R-rated blood-soaked samurai swashbucklers in a row! SEVEN, if you count Shogun Assassin as its own separate thing. And there's a few other manga-based action flicks which count for this sort of thing, ranging from Riki-Oh to Lady Snowblood to Ichi the Killer to the I'm-told-they're-good live action Death Note movies.

Does a film that was reheard pg-13 and then had an r-rated cut released on home video count?

Trying to shoehorn in Daredevil, huh? I dunno if that's a rabbit hole we wanna go down, since then everything from Fritz the Cat to Swamp Thing suddenly becomes possibly fair game.
