Ultimo Necro Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Something weird happened when I found myself enjoying Ryback's in ring work. The big guy really brought it I thought. When DB mentioned the "elephant in the room" I burst out giggling as I remembered the PWG promo with Paul London about the Bees, that then set me off and I was soops emosh for the rest of the speech. Great stuff. Farewell DB, don't be a stranger!
Patrick B. Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 It looked like Ryback was setting up for the first-ever BigGuySault before the Wyatt Family members distracted him. That would have been a sight.
steve Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 What's weird is, Ryback has always said in interviews he goes to Vince and pitches ideas. So, even though it's cool to see him busting out all this agile stuff, I gotta wonder -- of all the things to get himself over with Vince in 2016, he decides to work a New Japan junior tribute gimmick?
SirSmUgly Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 That crowd chanted FEED ME MORE a ton, but they really wanted to cheer the Wyatts so badly. I don't think anyone really got boos in that match...or in most other matches except for maybe Owens, who got a little heat. If you heard random boos or SEA-HAWKS chants, some dude in a New Day shirt who should go back to the Bay Area or Phoenix and STAY THERE had a "The Seahawks are booty" sign up that generated heat at random times, such as when Charlotte had a rest hold on Alicia Fox. We were bummed about no Sasha Banks for most of the show, so when her music hit, she got a big initial pop. I feel like Becky Lynch got a great reaction too. I was hoping for a good Superstars match, but we didn't get one. Sandow is absurdly over. Stardust's gimmick is terrible on TV, but his Frank Gorshin Riddler overacting actually is pretty entertaining in person.
Big Fresh Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 At least he can feud with The Rock. I'm genuinely stumped about what this means.
Patrick B. Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Homophobic comments in promos? (Yeah, it wasn't that great.) 1
MonteCarl Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 What if they go all the way to Mania with this Ambrose/Lesnar stuff? Everybody expects Wyatt to interfere costing Brock the match, but what if Ambrose happens to take Brock out long enough for Reigns to then spear Ambrose for the win at Fastlane. Brock is pissed and this feud with Ambrose continues. Taking it a step further, Ambrose actually WINS against Brock at Mania in a huge moment. Another star is born, actually using a win over Brock as something useful for a guy, and it leads to Reigns/Ambrose for the title while still attempting to remain "brothers". I think Ambrose/Lesnar is 100x more interesting than Brock/Wyatt 2
RIPPA Posted February 9, 2016 Author Posted February 9, 2016 I became convinced last not that its gonna be Brock/Ambrose vs. 2 Wyatts at Mania Which might be the biggest waste of Brock at Mania I could think of
Nice Guy Eddie Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Brock vs. Bray could be ok if Brock knocks Strowman so loopy that after an extended absence, Strowman returns as the lone Rosebud, with the sad Hulk music playing as he unsuccessfully searches for the party. Brock vs. Harper throwing bombs at each other along the lines of a Masato Tanaka/Mike Awesome match would be all kinds of fun.
steve Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Brock vs. Harper is happening on that Network special from Toronto, but it'll probably be about three minutes long.
Big Fresh Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 This is kinda weird, but I got bummed out today thinking of all the guys we know are Bryan's friends that weren't there last night due to injuries and other circumstances: Cena, Zayn, Balor, Cesaro, Kidd, Punk....
Craig H Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 My apologies if this is dumb, but while there's no one on the roster who will innovate and push WWE forward as much as Daniel Bryan, who does everyone think could be the next guy to really get behind and force WWE's hand? Ambrose seems like the most likely candidate. Maybe Cesaro? If Superstar Billy Graham is to be believed, then HHH already has big plans for Owens, so he's safe, but it would be nice for another feel good type of wrestler to fill that void. Kofi?
Michael Sweetser Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I'd say right now, Ambrose would probably be the most likely candidate for a "fan-shove" (we're going to have to coin some term for it eventually). I don't think Cesaro can develop the "everyman" connection that Bryan did and that Ambrose seems to be doing slowly.
SirSmUgly Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 It's going to be Zayn. Vince won't like his size or physique, but people will love him because he's got that quality of a star who will get over with the millennial audience. Bayley will be that for the women. Maybe not quite on Zayn's level, but I'm sure she's not conventionally pretty enough for Vince or Kevin Dunn and they care about the women even less than they do the men, shamefully. 2
Skeeball Wizard Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I'd say right now, Ambrose would probably be the most likely candidate for a "fan-shove" (we're going to have to coin some term for it eventually). I don't think Cesaro can develop the "everyman" connection that Bryan did and that Ambrose seems to be doing slowly. Ambrose is a likely one, I just hope they don't turn him heel anytime soon. Although he would be a great heel, so that's really a no lose situation. What about Sami Zayn? I know he isn't a part of the roster proper yet, but he seems to hit most of the marks of that type of personality.
Craig H Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 If they keep doing awesome stuff with Ambrose like they did last night, it's going to be hard to keep denying him. That was the first time in a long time, New Day stuff excluded, that I thought creative did something brilliant. I'm not sure if they stumbled into it or what, but I always love the "wrestler who keeps asking for a beating." I loved it when Tommy Dreamer took his shots from Sandman and I loved Ambrose just begging for an ass kicking. More of that. 1
Craig H Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I forgot about Sami because he isn't on the main roster. Sami seems like the next guy who could come up and embody everything good and lovable about wrestling. I just hope he stays healthy.
Fallacy! Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 WWE really stumbled onto something awesome with Lesnar-Ambrose. I hope they scrap whatever Brock-Wyatt, Ambrose-Owens bullshit they had planned for 'Mania and run with that instead. 1
SirSmUgly Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 It is weird, though. I don't want to be hyperbolic and hope that I am not proceeding to do so, but Bryan really felt like the first guy to get over at a transcendent level in the company since John Cena. I don't think even Punk got to that same place that Bryan got. There is a very clear void on these shows with Bryan gone and Cena out, and when Cena is done with a full time schedule in the next three or four years, where does that leave this company? Reigns's best hope is to get as over as Randy Orton at Orton's peak. There is just a massive vacuum of star power on the show. There are a lot of guys that I enjoy, but currently on the roster, only Ambrose and Owens have (fairly remote IMO) shots at breaking through into that level. In NXT, they have four or five people who have a chance to do it (Zayn, Balor, Bayley, Gable off the top of my head), but all of them have the sorts of flaws that mean that they'll only get "sigh, okay, we'll do this half-heartedly" pushes like Bryan got for most of his career.
Charlie M. Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 This is kinda weird, but I got bummed out today thinking of all the guys we know are Bryan's friends that weren't there last night due to injuries and other circumstances: Cena, Zayn, Balor, Cesaro, Kidd, Punk.... ' Kane wasn't even there!
Nice Guy Eddie Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Brock vs. Harper is happening on that Network special from Toronto, but it'll probably be about three minutes long. Yes, I know. I'm not getting my hopes up.

I would say Zayn is the most likely, I always think of him and Dragon as cut from the same cloth for some weird reason. As you guys have mentioned I hope they scrap whatever plans they have for Mania and just let Brock and Dean beat the shit out of each other for 20 minutes.
Matt D Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I became convinced last not that its gonna be Brock/Ambrose vs. 2 Wyatts at Mania Which might be the biggest waste of Brock at Mania I could think of That tag is better than Brock vs Bray singles.
Brian Fowler Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 AJ is already 38 though. Seems unlikely that, even best case scenario, he'd be more than a stop-gap.
