FluffSnackwell Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 The best pleasure of the first UFC game was unlocking legend jacked up Freddy Mercury AKA Dan Severn and beating everyone's ash.
Go2Sleep Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 I thought the first part of UL was pretty bad. Cage/Mack was fun, but the match quality dropped exponentially with each successive match. The unique opportunity was weak. Why would anyone trust Cueto to keep a promise for over a year without trying to screw them? Especially Havoc who has personal experience with Dario throwing a second match at him right after a tournament "final." Then Dr. Wagner Jr showed up with Famous B which was neat in a LU-weirdness sort of way, but completely killed the crowd and made Havoc look like an idiot for not seeing the obvious swerve. I don't think anyone bought Havoc as a legit title contender anyway, but they could've at least waited til next season to screw him and let him have a moment here.
zev Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 This week we had a match where a guy lost because he slipped on some beer, after using pinatas, and it wasn't Final Deletion. I want Angelico to feud with SoH next year because he didn't take the money and run out and get them some new motorcycles.
FluffSnackwell Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Havoc making it that far to have the unique opportunity in the first place is better than nothing. Cage's plight is more interesting to me as I'd like to see him elevated to better than Ultima Lucha opener wacky slapstick brawl by next season's close. Like Mil Muertes he seems to only ever lose via flash pins so he's been well protected. Even though that lump Ryback can't carry Cage's jock that's an epic clash of powerhouses that needs to happen.
Raziel Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Poor Mr Cisco. LU does hate filled brawls really well. God damn that finishing sequence in the Muertes/Cueto match
Curt McGirt Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 It's time for your REALTIME ULTIMA LUCHA DOS PARTE DOS REPORT~!~!~! Well, haven't got to do this in awhile. Unemployment works wonders for wrestling watching. Why is Vamp wearing an Orange Amplification shirt? Does he have a stoner rock band he plays with for fun in a garage on Sundays? DAGA/SINIESTRO DE LA MUERTE/MARIPOSA/MARTY THE MOTH MARTINEZ/SEXY STAR/KILLSHOT/NIGHT CLAW (GIFT OF THE GODS): Who the fuck is Night Claw? I don't expect to be able to do much with this. Marty gets double sleazy by sticking his dogtags down his trunks. They pair off outside per feud except the three that have none. Night Claw has to have the worst mask ever sold at Spencer's for Halloween (some kind of bulldog?) and this is just a rapid fire mess of cuts between different shit. Siniestro goes first, mercifully. From the mess Daga seems to be really crisp and Sexy's outfit is at least... well, sexy. Luckily Daga and Marty get in the ring to work; Marty does the Backlund lift into a corner slam that looks great. Daga out, then they have a "we have to wait for this guy" moonsault from the balcony by Claw. There's also a Killshot chant that lasts all of five seconds, haha. God that roll in the ring cutter makes me want to slap him; of course he eliminates Claw. The Martinez feud is now the finish to this match... and there's a Canadian Destroyer from Killshot. We end up with the stalker/rapist in with his obsession and one of the best and most underrated workers in the promotion thus loses to the worst worker in the promotion. I give up. This was more overcooked than an iHop steak. I mean they even treat a balcony moonsault like an irish whip here. Joey and Cortez have convinced Cisco to do something illegal. How long is Ultima Lucha, something like four hours live? There are six matches on the next episode! KING CUERNO VS. MIL MUERTES (DEATH MATCH): This has got to be 1000000 x better. Mil has a great toss and of course that awesome straight right pretty much immediately, then Cuerno busts out his tope which sends Mil into the chairs for the LU Chair Bump! Mil avoids a second and does a pretty nasty Diamond Cutter on the floor, then Cuerno does the Chair Bump. Into the stands! Cuerno sends Mil to the floor and hits a plancha; the camera angle gives it a great sense of distance. They fight up to the bandstand where the band is inexplicably still standing around with their stuff where they brawl and Cuerno falls to the floor from a hanging position. We get plundah set up. Cuerno get sat on the steps and punched. Cuerno shoulders Catrina out of the way ("Get out the way move bitch") and everyone "oooooo"s. Every damn punch is brutal as fuck. They walk all the way up the stairs and exchange putting their heads through glass panes, then Cuerno rolls ALL THE WAY DOWN. He recovers, almost chokes out Mil on the floor and they have a hockey fight in the ring. They just keep bringing out fucking tables to the count of four. Spear through one. Powerbomb through two. Powerbomb through three. Powerbomb through FOUR!!! Now Mil has a crowbar, hits Cuerno over the head off the top, and busts out a Tombstone for the finish. This wasn't the spectacle of Pentagon/Vamp but it was one hell of a brawl, at least as good as the last one they had, and the Tombstone was way better than a Flatliner as a finish. Striker asks Vamp about Pentagon and he mumbles something, puts a little trashcan on the ring and walks off... okay. Cisco is wired in Dario's office. Dario finds the wire and pulls a Scarface yelling into it THEN HE KILLS CISCO WITH THE BULL! Bwahahahaha... so much for the Crew. At least Cortez was smart enough to be an undercover cop... or was he? That was certainly an episode of opposites -- garbage on one hand, awesomeness on the other. Caveat emptor. 3
Sammo~! Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Mil Muertes is so fucking good you guys. His new mode of locomotion should just be dragging Cuerno around and powerbombing him through a table every 3 yards.
Curt McGirt Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 I didn't notice some of the Vampirobabble going on here. He says that Mil's eyes are red so clearly (clearly) his blood is pumping faster and at a different temperature. Also Striker's breathless "THE SOUNDS OF THE DEATH MATCH." EDIT: Oh, and I didn't notice that it was his meds that Vamp was pouring in the trashcan
DreamBroken Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Sexy Star! The Gift of the Gods! Great victory in a fun chaotic match. Muertes was killer in the main. Crazy ending with Dario. Looking forward to the big 2 hour finale next week.
Robert Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Sexy Star was fucking trash tonight. She is most nights but tonight especially. I hope all the women in Lucha Underground & all women in general are disgusted that this is the female Lucha Underground chose to represent gender equality. She almost single handidly ruined that opening match which is incredible considering how many other good wrestlers were involved. Rarely do you see such a one person trainwreck performance.
Sammo~! Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 I thought it was a fine way to blow off the Marty/Mariposa/Sexy Star story that's been going on all season. Sexy isn't the best wrestler but she's passable and she's over. I enjoyed it for what it was, and Sexy makes the most sense winning that match compared to the other participants. I for sure didn't want Daga or Kill Shot or El Hijo Del Black Panther or whatever winning. 1
Curt McGirt Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 The only real option in that match for me would be to have them both crush Sexy, Mariposa lays down for Marty, and he gets to have an actual good match at some point with a fitting opponent. Meanwhile Mariposa abducts Sexy again and she is ne'er to be seen until appearing at an Arena Mexico boxing show
Tromatagon Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Sadly they taped a whole season before Sexy Star decided to give up and box

EDIT: Oh, and I didn't notice that it was his meds that Vamp was pouring in the trashcan That's what those were. I have watched little to no LU. It was OK. The deathmatch was a spectacle. Does anyone else's cable company only carry El Rey in low-def? I know it was high-def shown low-def because of the letterboxing, but it made everything relentlessly dark and hard to watch.
Tromatagon Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Every satellite company only carries it in SD, I think. A lot of cable companies. It used to be that way on Time Warner, around when Season 1 first started. We eventually got HD though (by the end of Season 1). A lot of people don't think the even get El Rey when they do, because they never slum it in the standard def channels.
The Z Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 That new cat character reminded me, where has Bengala been this whole season? He only debuted at the tail end of the first season, but I was looking forward to seeing more of him this season.
Tromatagon Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 He's not coming back. I'm guessing because he was really out of shape in Kobra Moon's debut and didn't make her look good at all. You didn't see the unedited version of the match. It was really bad. Like it was bad on TV but goddamn, seriously. They even changed the finish in post production. He literally got Montreal'd by editing - the dragon sleeper submission wasn't the finish. He's also not even Bengala anymore. AAA gave the character to someone else recently, even having Ricky Marvin and Bengala wrestle on the same show. 1
The Z Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 That's a shame. He was awesome in NOAH back in the day, but outside of the Season 1 LU matches I haven't seen anything from him in almost a decade. I had no idea he's gotten this much out of shape.
Tromatagon Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 This might be a good week for you guys to actually start listening to my Lucha Underground/MMA Podcast Masks, Mats, & Mayhem (you can find links on my twitter bio, which is in my sig) We're covering Ultima Lucha Dos Part Dos, Fight Week, and are going to have a fun WWE vs Lucha Underground debate that is going to be a fucking bloodbath. You guys know which side I'm representing. Also, I have a really, really good sign next week on the show. 1

They knew and they went with it anyway. Marvin's not in any better shape unmasked, but he's wrestled better in Mexico as a heel since that point. He was not terrible as Bengala in AAA before that match, so I don't know what happened that weekend. But it wasn't good. 4 hours ago, jstout said: Does anyone else's cable company only carry El Rey in low-def? Comcast is pretty much carrying the channel in SD but, weirdly enough, the Lucha Underground episodes are available in HD if you look for them in their On Demand section the next day. Not sure if it's the same on other systems. 1

I checked the episode from two weeks ago (the one with the Last Real Heels) Two hours is a long-ass time, but it was fun. Definitely will be checking this and next week. 11 minutes ago, thecubsfan said: Comcast is pretty much carrying the channel in SD but, weirdly enough, the Lucha Underground episodes are available in HD if you look for them in their On Demand section the next day. Not sure if it's the same on other systems. This is the same with my Comcast. I asked them about it recently and they said there's no plans for an HD channel. I can make do with it for On Demand since I'll be watching it again. The show was a lot of fun. Sexy Star looked godawful, but I liked how they tied up the Marty/Mariposa story. And Cuerno/Muertes was a fun brawl. When Mil was grabbing the mic at the band's stage I was hoping he'd scream into it death metal style.
Tromatagon Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 It's probably going to be a lot longer than two hours this week, knowing us.
NikoBaltimore Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Yikes, I'll prepare accordingly then. The question is, will your rant on Sexy Star factor into this? That seems like an argument for pro-WWE and I'll be curious to see how you handle that.
Tromatagon Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 The debate will be a separate segment from the recap, because I'm going to eat poor WWE fan Zak alive as it is, so people will draw comparisons to Muertes/Cuerno. Want to cover that first.
Go2Sleep Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 The second installment of UL was a lot better than the first. The GotG match was pretty fun even though Sexy Star's execution was bad most of the match. That finish was written perfectly, but the delivery couldn't be much worse. She's over and needed a big win, though, so I'm not upset with the booking. At least Ivelisse will always be able to say she was the first woman to get a LU title shot. Night Claw got a decent showcase in his debut. That's Octagon Jr, right? Killshot has grown on me over the course of this season. Granted, I never hated him as much as some people, but he seems to have put his indytastic offense together in a way that's been really good for the crash and burn LU style. I loved Melissa Santos disgustedly pushing Marty off her after one of the floor sequences. Mil/Cuerno was amazing, and my front runner for match of the season. Great pace throughout, and I loved the weird dynamic where moves-wise, Cuerno was the babyface, but character-wise, Mil was the babyface. Mil was like the fucking Terminator in this match, and Cuerno got to show a lot more range not being confined to methodical pace of his character. The opening ruled, the bandstand part ruled, the window part ruled, and that finishing stretch is exactly how you should finish a damn death match. The limp tombstone was perfect. And then the ending segment... I was wondering when we were gonna see more patented LU insanity backstage, and boy did we ever. Dario Cueto henchman now is atop the list of most dangerous jobs with a 50% fatality rate.
