jstout Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 That whole sequence in 4:40? Can't see it. You gotta take your time trying to get out of that prison.
AxB Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 We were well over ten minutes. Ten minutes of Havoc and random kid fighting for their lives while Cristobal flew in circles and I shot down endlessly spawning fighter jets. My son told me everyone in his school was really excited that Heists finally came out, and they can't wait to play some. He's 10, you know.
Cristobal Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I was all fired up about a piloting role, something that could really show off my Murdock-like skills in that regard. Then I'm told to go get a Velum. Ok, that's like the 2nd worst plane in the game, but even better! Ups the degree of difficulty, right? I'm told I have to evade fighter jets until the demolitions person gets the buzzard. Wow, ok, I can do this. I might be doing it like Sideshow Bob in the biplane ("Prepare to engage enemy...*WHOOSH*...Bogie's airspeed not sufficient for intercept. Suggest we get out and walk.") but I'll do what I can. Here comes the jet...I'm locked on! I start to throw the plodding aircraft into a banked turn when just the mere act of doing so ends up throwing off the lock. I end up moving after the jet, intending to reduce lock-on time by heading right for it....and I'm catching up. After a bit, I have to ease up on the throttle because I was in danger of ramming the jet from behind. The whole thing took basically zero piloting skill. Don't crash. Turn a bit when you get locked onto and you'll be fine. Dullest $200K I've earned since doing Coveted 16 times.
jstout Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Dan was saying the same thing about piloting the Vellum. I had my hands full as the prisoner. The third heist is absolutely fun as all hell, and has some insanely complicated parts to it. The wait was absurdly long, but there's no denying they did a really, really solid job with these heists. Freemode is now officially ruined after everyone unlocks the armored vehicle with the mounted minigun and (my worst fear come true) a buyable jet with rockets. I dunno if it has machine guns. No more breaking into Zancudo for the wannabe jetster with $3 million in hooker money to blow. Freemode is getting ready to change dramatically with all this new crap.
J.T. Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I spend some time moving my offroad vehicles at my Alta Street penthouse to my beach house in Paleto Bay. I bought an Enduro for the beach house garage and will use the 6th slot at my beach house to store the fucking Rebel with Minigun once I unlock it and have the cash handy. Bought a Hakachou for Alta Street after selling my Huntley and this afternoon I will get rid of my Bagger and get an Innovation. After that, the Jester race car and the armored Kururu will round out my high end garage. Yeah, I was in freemode for five seconds and there were nothing but Minigun Rebels, Buzzards and Tanks on the streets.
J.T. Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Mark and I got through the intro heist with a couple of hiccups mostly via my inability to be boss at minigames. The fucking Kururu set-up takes place on the same car park in Little Seoul in that Lester mission where you snipe the Russians and steal a Helicopter on the rooftop helipad. I was smart and took a position of the rooftop opposite the car park (ie. where the Russians are in Lester's mission) and blazed on the Koreans with my Advanced Rifle. Fish in a Barrel. Mark and I grabbed the Kururu and bailed. Oh, shit the actual Fleeca Job. Mark wanted to drive because of the frustration of being the driller during Rippa's intro run. That was our first failing. I probably should've drove because my wheelman skills are slowly returning to proper form. The hack program can eat a dick. The signal moves just fast enough to foil twitch reflex. The drill was a bitch at first, but once I got a hang of how much pressure to put on the bit, the locks broke smoothly. Thank God we were not under pressure. Payday was not entirely horrible. Paige was pleasingly goth, but her clothing was a bit too grunge for my tastes. I like my Suicide Girls in plaid skirts and combat boots. Would like to replay heist sometime to see how I fare as the driver.
RIPPA Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I was so happy it took you guys way longer than it did when I did it
J.T. Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I was so happy it took you guys way longer than it did when I did it Would've been faster if I had insisted on driving. Mark is supposed to be crew hacker and I am supposed to be crew wheelman. We exchanged roles.... Not good... Stick to what you are good at. Lesson Learned. No harm no foul since the stakes weren't that high and you'd have to go full retard to fail that job. On future heists when it really counts, I will be driving or I will be the helicopter pilot. The part of the set-up for the Prison Break where you steal the bus will require a Buzzard to chase off air support so I will pilot my attack heli.
The Man Known as Dan Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 The 3rd Heist really was a blast, and there's one there that you can tell J.T. Is gonna love to death due to the coordination required. Some of the setup stuff by themselves felt like a major mission, and the Heist was pretty great. I was worried about taking the Pilot role again after such a.... Meh experience as pilot on the 2nd heist. But it was significantly more fun last night with us having to setup strikes as a unit in the air, the sheer number of things to take out, and me occasionally just getting pissed and using the bottom of our chopper as a battering ram. The best part about these heists is going to be replay value. I have no clue what the ground team aspect was like on either of the last 2 missions, and in future heists, we can take new roles and it will feel new again. If the Destiny crew needs a 4th later today, I can jump in. My "go straight through" progress is already messed up, so Mel and Robert probably shouldn't be switching off for the extra mill, but I should have some afternoon time.
Robert C Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I spend some time moving my offroad vehicles at my Alta Street penthouse to my beach house in Paleto Bay. Yeah, I was in freemode for five seconds and there were nothing but Minigun Rebels, Buzzards and Tanks on the streets. Pretty sure the armed rebel will be be a Pegasus vehicle, rather than one that goes in your garage. The Insurgent (big-ass armored car with a turret on top) definitely is. Melraz bought one of those Insurgents last night. The gun on that thing kicks ass. No auto lock-on, and a slow rate of fire, but it packs a wallop. Half a dozen hits will turn a buzzard into a fireball. Unfortunately, we found out the hard way (twice) that the gunner can fall out of the vehicle. I ran into one Insurgent in the very brief time I was in freemode after the third heist. I was all set to blow it up when some other asshole did it for me.
jstout Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 The heist finale in the helicopter was probably the most immersive thing I've ever done in a video game. I was (for some reason) desperately trying not to let the team down, to deliver on my end. I thought it was funny that I struggled mightily until the very end and then made some key kills. I don't really care about whatever bonuses - it's not the money, it's the sheer fun of it. Last night was a stone blast, even if it took what, about three hours? The total newness of it will wear off after several play-throughs, but it's fun to have the feeling of "am I doing the right thing here? Am I getting ready to fuck up?" with every move that you do instead of being able to go through the missions the same way every time and saw right through them. Not thinking will get you killed. As soon as I came back into freemode after the heist was over, some asshole in a cargobob tried to drop a car on me. That's usually a terminal mistake for the perpetrator, but it was late, so I let him off the hook with a warning shot, more or less, after I blew up his cargobob with a homing rocket. I dunno if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but at least Freemode will be more of a challenge. None of the new Pegasus vehicles are level-locked, so there'll be Level 17's running around in jump jets, for fair or foul. I can't see the point of the helicopter enough to buy it, but I would love to take it with four people on a really good chopper mission like Mixed Up with Coke or Trash Talk or even most of Los Santos Connection. Basically any mission where a chopper would come in handy - imagine calling one of those bastards in during Chop Chop. It would at least add a new wrinkle to it. Oh yeah, it's weird that I knew what I wanted everyone to do in that mission finale. I did sorta feel like the leader at that point - "You, do this, you, do that, we need our two strongest combat hands as the ground team," etc. 1

Yeah, if anything, the third heist was even better than the second. Stealth section was frustrating as hell at first, but might have been my favorite part after we figured it out. I'm not sure how much different freemode will really be. The only armored car I saw blew up within 30 seconds of me spotting it. Does the new jet have auto lock-on for the rockets on ground targets? If not, I doubt it will be a game changer. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that they nerfed the heat seekers to make them a lesser threat to the jump jets. Gotta sell those shark cards. Yeah, JT is gonna love the stealth section. We were useless till we figured out we had to synchronize. Then they stood no chance. None of the new Pegasus vehicles are level-locked, so there'll be Level 17's running around in jump jets, for fair or foul. We were all feeling the pressure not to let everybody down on the finale, especially after we figured how far back the restart point was. The ground crew wiped twice. There were a lot of blind corners, and they got us once. The second time was because neither melraz or I noticed the rebreathers. melraz went in the water first, so he drowned just before I would have. The one thing that I did notice was that we should've told that douche to piss off and sold all the vehicles we stole instead of doing the heist. Prices at Warstock totaled nearly $8 million for all that shit, and that doesn't even include all the Lazers we stole. Payout was $675K. And, yeah I think it took about 3 hours. We could probably do it in about 1 1/2 to 2 hours on a replay, now that we know what to do. Possibly helpful hints for anybody trying that mission There are 6 parts to this one part 1 - get some access cards. Nothing earthshaking here. You're gonna get ambushed at the meet, and have to shoot your way out. You just have to get the guy with the key cards back to the apartment to complete the job part 2 - steal two armored cars at the quarry. This was actually easier than the old mission where you have to steal two vans for Lester. Just get in, get the cars, and get out. Don't try to kill all the guys. One of the armored cars has a turret mounted gun that is deadly on buzzards/Mesas. part 3 - steal a harrier jump jet off the aircraft carrier. Nothing much here, just shoot your way in. One guy gets the Harrier, and the rest grab Lazers to tackle a bunch of enemy jets. part 4 - steal a helicopter from Merryweather's docks. There's two ways to do this after you get the chopper. About 5 enemy choppers will spawn. Several of them are Buzzards, and those can be deadly. You can either wait for the aircraft to come to you and snipe/RPG em, or use the chopper to take em out. If you use the chopper, try to keep the bad guys in front and below you. The front passenger guy has a gun that's deadly on those choppers, but it pretty much aims forwards and straight ahead/down. part 5 - sneak an armored car into the Humane Labs. The bad guys will be in groups of 2-4. You fail if anybody sees you or sees another baddie go down. Take out the two guys by the gate simultaneously. A car will show up on the map. Stay out of sight of that, and he will piss off. Make sure you know how many guys are in any one area, and make sure they all go down at the same time. part 6 - can't speak to the in flight stuff, as melraz and I were the ground team. You've got to fight your way through the Humane Labs. Be careful going around corners, as the Merryweather guys like to pop up out of nowhere. Also, when you come out of the elevator, there will be a guy right outside the door, so be ready for him. When you get to the swimming portion, be sure to equip your rebreathers, and you should be golden. I had 4 rebreathers, I think, and I only went through two before I got out. 1
RUkered Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I've been browsing GTA forum for a while. Seems there was an update today. I don't know what all it changed, but I kept seeing people saying they've nerfed the gang car payouts. Apparently it was treating any custom rim as chrome rims, which made them go for 36k. They're quick to patch anything that will make earning money a little easier - not so much on anything else. 1
Tromatagon Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Finally running around dressed as a ninja like I always should have been
AxB Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 My character's wearing the new black leather jacket, that's zipped all the way to the top, with shiny black leggings and combat boots. Cristobal wanted to know why she was dressed as Seth Rollins. 1
AxB Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Trying to do relatively simple set-up missions with randoms is annoying. Code Keys took me and Havoc about an hour and a half. Because we kept getting idiots.
jstout Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 That's why the gang cars were going for 36K. I knew it was probably a bug and not a bonus, but you best believe I cashed in some of my gang car stash. I still would like to know about the silver car I got that went for 44K. And I couldn't imagine the last two missions we've gone through with randoms. Just couldn't. Possible? Sure. But like with that final mission - I knew Dan knew what to do with that helicopter. I knew Mel and Robert were our best bets on the ground after I knew I wanted Dan in the chopper. I knew I had to take the fourth slot and pray I did something productive, because I couldn't have handled the other jobs. I'd have no way of knowing any of that stuff about randoms. Dan has also been designated plane pilot, and that's cool, because there's other people who can do it, but it's something we really don't have to worry about with him. It's practically a given, which is not something you can say about Ronnie Random.
AxB Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Well, after taking ten attempts to do the first part of that set-up, we then get Wardy and Olly in to do the second part, and walked it first time, in less than ten minutes. Wardy is pissed off though, because he glithced out on the final heist and it gave him an "All Heists Completed" message without actually giving him the payout for completing it (or paying him back his investment in doing it at all).
RUkered Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Don't worry too much yet Stout. I sold two gang cars last night, and the payout was still 36k for now. Finished the Prison Heist with Mel, Robert, and Dan, and now I can't get Lester to call me for the next one. Not sure if there's some trick I'm missing or what. I didn't listen to Robert too well. I was the prisoner and kept walking slowly, even though one cop was talking shit. He opened up with that pump shotgun and I barely escaped in time to hide and eat snacks and put on armor. Almost screwed it up right out of the gate. But the rest of them knew what to do, so I shot where I could and mostly tried to stay in cover to not screw it up for everybody else. It was damn fun. Edit: Oh yeah, and Robert absolutely saved my ass when you're supposed to snipe the two guys at the same time. Dopey McCan'tDoShitRight over here was aiming at the wrong guy and missed the second one three times. Robert got the clutch shot on him at the last second to save the day. 1

I got extremely lucky with that shot. I missed the guy twice , then hit one step before he disappeared from view. Also, if I'd have known your dad was watching you play, I would've swapped to a classier bikini than the pink polka dot. 1

I swapped to my woman for a few and there she stood in a black bikini top, lacy boy shorts, and hooker heels. I didn't even bother trying to explain or justify it. I don't know what was going on with my headset. I asked you which dude to aim on and, when I didn't hear anything, said I was on the briefcase dude. At the very least, that's my best excuse. I'd have probably missed the guy anyway. 1
