Greggulator Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I wonder if the NFL will get any of the "THESE GAMES ARE FIXED!!!" nonsense the NBA gets saddled with constantly.
odessasteps Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I wonder it a huge gambling/fixing scandal is the one thing that could hurt thr NFL. It would probably need to be widespread and involv big stars like QBs. Even then, i dont think it would.
The Man Known as Dan Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 The Pats being dirty as fuck is a surprise to absolutely 0 people, let's be honest here. 3
supremebve Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 So, do we have a different perspective on shit like this because we're wrestling fans? Do normal people find this shit as entertaining as the games? Isn't Roger Goodell essentially the real life version of the cartoonish Mr. McMahon from the Attitude Era? Goodell asked his staff to stomp on some video tapes, who were the staff members Patterson and Brisco? He seems to turn a blind eye to some workers, while over punishing others. Any time an outside authority comes in, they immediately overturn his heavy handed bullshit.
RIPPA Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Though I was waiting for how long it was going to be for Foz to run in and defend the Pats :-P
EdA Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 So basically, the Giants are the only team smart enough to keep the Pats from fucking them over. Which means Eli and Coughlin are smarter than Brady and Belichick. Think that one over. 2
EdA Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Go ahead and tweet that to Simmons, Phil. I double-dog dare you.
Tabe Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Wow...Just when you think it can't get any worse (or better, depending on your perspective) for the Patriots and Goodell, comes that report. I have long said that Goodell will be commish for as long as he wants to be, but now I'm not so sure. What's worse is what do you do about the Patriots? You can't give an NFL team the "death penalty," so what do you do when a team cheated that badly? I mean, goddamn, they cheated like crazy. Without attacking the report itself, I'll just say this: ESPN doesn't exactly have a lot of credibility when it comes to accurate reporting regarding the Patriots. 1
SirFozzie Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 BTW, the Spygate tapes? They still exist. Jay Glazer has them (no shit..) http://bleacherreport.com/articles/199345-the-truth-about-spygate-punishing-success-and-promoting-parity
Vincey Greene Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 So when do we strip the Pats of their rings? It's the right thing to do. Bow down to the 2004 Super Bowl Champs, your Carolina Panthers. Seriously though, if this is legit and it probably is, Belichick and Goodell should both be finished in football. But they won't be even though it is the best possible result. 2
SirFozzie Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Again, taping coaches is not and was not illegal. What the Pats did in 2007 was to tape from an unapproved location. From the DS article that Jay Glazer mentioned he still had the tapes: Do you have any worries about the Spygate issue if it does eventually end up in front of Congress? Do you worry about being in a Judith Miller-type situation because of your involvement in it?JG: Well, I got a call from Sen. Specter and he asked me to meet...first off, there was some ridiculous report out there that said I had agreed to hand over the tapes to Congress. I do have the tapes, but am not doing that, nor would I, and if they want to see them, I show them at parties all the time, so they're more than welcome to come over to my house and see them. Me and my buddies will watch them all the time, because the tapes are hilarious to be honest with you....How's that?JG: Because it's not just football...it's classic. The tapes go back and forth between... Well, the first part of the tape, the guy recording it , all he's focusing in on are the butts of the Jet City Dancers. He's going from chick, to chick, to chick, and then you see, like, Tom Brady step in and then he'll [the dude taping it] hit the coaches a little bit, but when there's a break? He goes into the stands and then focuses on T and A. It is classsssic. It is like Spygate meets "Girls Gone Wild."And that's what's on the tapes that everyone's getting upset about? Does that damage the credibility of those tapes at all?JG: Oh, no, no, no,no — because the rest of it, is damaging. Because they go the coaches, to the down and distance, back up to the coaches, back to the down and distance — it couldn't be anymore clear. They focus in on three guys the entire time, it is soooo brazen it's incredible.(none of this is illegal, infact, the NFL requires videographers to get down and distance between plays. Again, it's only location)edit: From the BR story: Players and coaches can zoom out to study teams working together or zoom in on individual players. Section E of the Miscellaneous rules in the NFL’s Policy Manual for Member Clubs Volume II 2007 Edition reads that “club videographers have to shoot the scoreboard prior to each play,” just as Estrella did. The rest of it is "We're afraid they'll do something, so we (throw away all paperwork/sweep the room for bugs/etcetera). you notice no one ever FOUND anything. It's sour grapes and paranoia run wild.
Technico Support Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Strip Kraft of the franchise and move the team to London.
supremebve Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 You know what should happen to the Patriots about any of this? Nothing. 1
johnnyboy Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 See how they're trying to expand the NFL fandom in the UK, so they can eventually have a London team? The only NFL games on Free-to-air TV in Great Britain this season will be the Wembley ones, and the Superbowl. Everything else (full live games, but also highlights and round-ups) will be exclsuively on Sky Sports 3, which is like £40 a month (you can't have SS3 unless you already have SS1 & SS2). You can get NFL Gamepass. Still expensive, but you don't have to give Sky any money. So basically, the Giants are the only team smart enough to keep the Pats from fucking them over. Twice
johnnyboy Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 You know what should happen to the Patriots about any of this? Nothing. Rog needs to be fired out of a cannon though.
Vincey Greene Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I am not a Pats fan. I am of the opinion that Belichick deserves a ban. I am of the opinion that there is additional cheating none of us knows about, and I'm of the opinion that their success has something to do with that cheating. I am of the opinion that the 2003 Panthers would have won the Super Bowl in a fair contest. But hot damn, best heels in the business. I don't know who's more hateable, New England or their fans! Especially those who can't play the "I Grew Up In Boston" card. That kind of straight up, Darth Vader level of villainy is great for the league. Ric Flair ain't got shit on Darth Hoody.

You can't go around banning people because they did something wrong in your opinion. Until someone brings forth some rock hard facts, they nor anyone else should be banned for anything.
RIPPA Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 They should just have to play the Giants from now on anytime they make the Super Bowl
EdA Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Fuck it. Their punishment should be making the Pats fanboys be forced to watch the Pats of the late-80's/early-90's on an endless loop. 1
Burgundy LaRue Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I wonder if the NFL will get any of the "THESE GAMES ARE FIXED!!!" nonsense the NBA gets saddled with constantly. The NFL is like Al Capone: they won't go down for the major damage they've caused, but rather some minor offense that someone will figure how to exploit to the hilt. 1
muhammedboehm Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Can someone please explain to me how the Pats are guilty of braking a rule that wasn't in place at the time? Before 2006 there wasn't a rule about video taping...wouldn't this mean every team is cheating since before 1940 what ever the forward pass was illegal.
Craig H Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Why is everyone focused on the video taping, when stealing information from playbooks or knowing when to scramble radio signals are some of the more eye raising allegations? 1
SirFozzie Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Mostly because there's no proof of it, so they're going back to the spygate well..
