A surprisingly lifeless episode doesn't seem much to it:

* SmackDown opens with Seth Rollins cutting an in-ring promo. He talks about how The Shield broke up exactly one year ago. Dean Ambrose interrupts and cuts a promo about their upcoming Ladder Match.

* They announce Roman Reigns vs. Sheamus and Kevin Owens’s NXT Title Open Challenge for later tonight.

* Prime Time Players defeated The Ascension and Lucha Dragons to become #1 contenders.

* The New Day cut a promo backstage on The Prime Time Players. Kane puts Kofi Kingston in a match against Neville.

* Ryback defeated Stardust.

* Paige is interviewed by Renee Young.

* Backstage, Harper and Rowan talked about it being time to pay for sins.

* Open Challenge: Kevin Owens defeated Zack Ryder. After the match, Owens hits Ryder with another pop-up powerbomb.

* Backstage, Renee interviews Sheamus.

* Neville defeated Kofi Kingston.

* Total Divas spot aired.

* Mix TV segment with Lana. Miz questions how Lana could abandon Rusev right now while he’s hurt. She claims Rusev abandoned her. Out comes Rusev, who limped down to the ring in crutches. He begs her for one more chance, but she turns him down and pushed the crutches into Rusev. Rusev started yelling and calling her names. Dolph Ziggler comes out and escorts Lana away from ringside.

* A spot aired for Big Show in WWE Studios’s new movie, Vendetta.

* Roman Reigns defeated Sheamus via DQ when Kane attacked Reigns. After the match, Kane took out Sheamus with a chokeslam. Kane then announced himself as the last entrant in the MITB ladder match.

Rumblings are Vince heard Rusev sneeze backstage. Vince's seeing eye dog Ted was barking like crazy for some reason. Later on Jerry Brisco told Vince that when Rusev sneezed, it was right on Vince's Monster Energy Drink. Pat Patterson confirmed the story and Vince told HHH to pull the trigger on the split and bury Rusev.

I went to the show last night. I had a lot of fun.

Rollins promo was fine. Ambrose's was better, but hard to hear in the arena.

The tag team 3-way was fine for what it was, and Titus hit the Meltdown for the finish. First time I've seen him use that for a finish. Hit it so hard poor Victor's skirt came off.

New Day's promo was fine except for Big E's line about the PTP being all about the money. His delivery was great.

Ryback beat Stardust and is what you'd expect.

Paige interview was fine for what it was. Harper and Rowan promo was good too, talking about how they are a "family" and that they don't act or think like "you" do. Also, in their match on Superstars, they won with the 3D. So maybe they're Dudleys and not Wyatts.

Kevin Owens promo on Cena was pretty good, talking about how delusional Cena is and how he wants to break the hold Cena has on children. He also said his son is seven and doesn't know any better when it comes to Cena. Zack Ryder got a little offense before Owens cut him off. He then yelled "it's over!" Right before the pop up powerbomb. Post match he hit the cannonball. The crowd chanted "one more time" so Zack got a second powerbomb.

Neville beat Kofi with a roll up. He set up the red arrow, but Woods and E interfered so he did a moonsault to the floor instead.

Lana-Miz thing was pretty lame until Rusev came to apologize. He was great here, telling her in his broken English that you don't know what you got til its gone, just like that american song she loves so much. When she rejects this apology, he starts calling her a stupid American cow and other gibberish and she leaves with Dolph. I think this is actually great for Rusev. He showed some personality out there and getting hurt and going through this valley is probably good character building stuff. Do I trust WWE to follow this up with anything decent? Probably not, but there are ways this can go that have possibility.

Main Event with Sheamus and Reigns was pretty decent. Crowd was with Roman, although the Kane interference was predictable. Not sure I care much that Kane is in MITB, but choke slamming Sheamus for Brogue Kicking Reigns is fun.

Show ends there, but Reigns started a comeback on Kane and J and J so Seth Rollins ran out which brought out Ambrose. Crowd went nuts for Ambrose. Ambrose and Reigns beat down the bad guys and the night ended with a Superman Punch and Dirty Deeds on Rollins. Crowd went home happy.

Even better? No Cena, no Orton, no Big Show.

Me and Jr. Had a a great time. Wish we would've got Kidd and Cesaro or Bray Wyatt, but it was still a fun night. Seeing Kevin Owens after all these years was just surreal. He belongs, and it's so surprising and pleasing to see.

Rusev's line about "that American song you love so much" is comic gold. I cannot wait for this promo.

I think it's kinda sweet that he noticed. See? He notices what you like, Lana! There's a soft teddy bear under that harsh Eastern-European exterior! Take him back!

He should totally try to woo her by hiring a barbershop quartet to sing that song to her. Then, she can turn her nose up at it and Rusev can destroy the quartet in anger.

Shit, I like love-stricken Rusev. That dude is actually a really good actor for a wrestler.

I want a vignette of Rusev standing outside Lana's house holding a boom box playing Peter Gabriel. Instead of "In Your Eyes", Rusev chooses "Sledgehammer", leading to Cesaro leaning out of the window, giving a Rusev a big "HEYYYYY".

Wouldn't be the first time a wrestler got buried for dating someone really out of someone else's league. I remember years ago there was a story about a WWE Writer who wanted to sabotage The Miz because he was dating Maryse at the time.

I found this from Cagesideseats in 2011

Number 10: Stalking the Divas

Bryan Alvarez reported in a Summer 2004 edition of his F4W newsletter that one writer had been let go for a rather strange reason.  A newcomer to the WWE Creative had been given the contact details of all the divas on the roster since he was handling a few of their storylines at the time. You know, just to get some creative input from time to time, see how they felt about a story…etc. Bizarrely, the writer then proceeded to barrage the women with constant phone calls and emails, creepily phoning them in the middle of the night to ask questions, many of which had nothing to do with wrestling at all. Unsurprisingly, many divas complained at what a nuisance he had become and he was let go shortly afterwards.

More recently, reports surfaced last year that The Miz had heat with a writer over his real-life relationship with Maryse. After Maryse rebuffed his attempts to ask her out, the writer grew insanely jealous of Mike, and proceeded to bury the promising newcomer in meetings every chance he could get, deliberately attempting to make him look bad and sabotage his career. No, that’s not “Awesome.”

So all this sudden making Rusev look like a giant pussy, I wouldn't doubt for a second it's because he and Lana are a real thing in real life. It again makes me nitpick the whole notion of the "reality" era. We all know thanks to her Twitter and Instagram that they are indeed a couple (though she's been kayfabbing it for like the last month). They want to do this "reality" stuff, but when it comes to the stuff they could they don't and just choose to make up really lame pairings.
