SKoS, do you happen to know what the winning scores were other years? Maybe I'm remembering wrong but it seems like scoring is pretty high across the board this summer.

I've got the stats from the last three years on my work computer.  Will check on Monday.

Okay, I got bored this afternoon and went in to check.

2011: 89.38 (32.00 box office, 57.38 RT)

2010: 94.87 (40.87 box office, 54.00 RT)

I just want to finish in the top 6 so RossWB won't overtake me in the Summer Blockbuster Pool Hall of Fame.  I see you.

The damn tiebreakers might actually end up being significant this year.

I didn't play the game in 2012 but I'm not surprise to see it's the outlier year.  I suspect the same will happen in 2015 if all the big releases stay on track.

I figured now was a good time for me to return to the board. I've known for awhile about the new one. I just have not felt like registering as I wanted to take a break from it. But of course I had to register before the contest ended. I haven't even had the time to pick out an avatar or signature yet. I just wanted to say that I haven't vanished for good and hopefully I can at least stay in the top 6 by the time it ends.

I figured I should stick with the old name as my moniker isn't too important to me and it just makes everything easier.

R.I.P.D. looks actually pretty funny from the commercials that started running while the board was down, which means I'm going to get even more messed up. Looks like it has that sleeper cult classic kind of appeal to it.

What I saw of the and trailers, I was not amused. From what I have heard via a few sources, the movie matched the trailers and ads and just wasn't good. I do not have the desire to see it on DVD.

Star Trek has the highest RT rating, but it didn't seem to blow anyone away.  At least not with the people I've talked to who saw it.  Hell, I barely hear the movie discussed now.

Yeah I agree. This really feels like a summer where "a bunch of things happened", clearly massive amounts of money were made when you add it altogether as the overall numbers have been high, but I don't know how many individual movies will go down as anyone's personal favourites.

Yeah, this summer did not light my world on fire. I did not feel like seeing too much on the big screen. The Star Trek movie was hit and miss with me. Some parts were good but ooh boy some parts were not. What I ended up enjoying the most was Pacific Rim and The Conjuring. The latter was a big shock to me as I was not even planning on seeing it until I had heard it was actually really good, which it was.

Yeah that was my reaction to the initial commercial that was more joke-focused. Then they started the one that had (very brief) glimpses at the special effects and... yeah, it looked like it was in trouble.

FWIW, R.I.P.D. almost didn't even make the list of eligible movies.  I had decided not to list it, and then there was an R.I.P.D. trailer in front of Oblivion when I went to see it, and I saw some people talking about it on here.  So I was like "I guess this is going to be on people's radar," and I swapped it in for White House Down.

I was wondering about that. When someone posted a trailer of White House Down on the board, and I think J.T. (sorry bruh) said the movie looked awesome. Then, I watched the trailer myself and thought it was hot garbage. Then, the bad reviews came out. Still, I was not fully convinced White House Down was crappy until I actually paid MY money to go see it. A whole bunch of people at Sony should have lost their jobs over that because it was completely dreadful to the 25th power.

Thank my spirit animal you kept R.I.P.D. in, SKoS.  It was easily the most predictable bad movie of the summer, and it's not even close.  One view of the trailer and I knew the critics would loathe it.  I wasn't so sure about the box-office but I didn't think it would have that much appeal.  I thought the studio might just leave it for dead right before its release.  It got more promotion than I thought it would in the week it came out.

White House Down had that 2nd trailer that made it seem like a buddy cop movie and everyone was like "HEY! I WOULD WATCH THAT!!!"

Then the movie came out and... yeah...

I was actually hoping that the movie would be as awesome as the comic book.  But yeah, no good concept can survive conversion to film and the casting of Ryan Reynolds anywhere near the lead role.  He is the Anti-Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

The update is going to be late again this week, because I'm going to see PWG's Battle of Los Angeles!  Woo!  And I'm front row on the second night!

Expect the update on... Monday night, I think.  Tuesday morning at the latest.

So it's gonna come down to goal difference for those two playoff spots.

Football reference aside, Death From Above jumps ahead of me. Aren't you usually rock bottom in these things?

We are in the shut-down phase where the kids have gone back to school, there are no new movies left to debut, and not too much more movement in the standings can happen.  You'll notice there wasn't a ton of movement compared to a typical week.

All that can realistically happen, IMO, is that Planes could pull ahead of 2 Guns on the box office list, and Elysium could pass Wolverine on the RT list (they are very close - Wolverine is at 68.66% and Elysium is at 68.49%).

Re KJC McMahon's post, I'm in second place right now, and I've said right from the start that I wouldn't be giving myself a prize.  So if I stay in the top six, the seventh-place finisher will get a prize.

I bet most people have Elysium over The Wolverine on their RT list(I know I do), so even if it does move up, it probably won't result in much movement.

I don't have Planes on my list so a move up won't affect my list, but it could help others.  Eh.

Do your job, Kick-Ass.

For the same with his post (and since I'm out of the running):

since at the moment, there's a 4-way tie, would you consider adding a seventh movie to the list?

As someone who is in the running to win a prize, I would say he shouldn't. This is only a bit of fun, and it amazes me every year that he's generous enough to give away prizes (some of which are pretty goddamn expensive - the BBS set last year, the Kieslowski this year)
