APRIL 2015 WRESTLING DISCUSSION

RIPPA

A few more years later, and I could easily have seen Under Armour joining up and using the XFL to gain attention.

Possibly, but they were already gaining a foothold in creating gear for multiple sports. Under Armor did seem like one of those things that would just fade away or turn into a Walmart thing, but now they're one of the premiere companies creating clothing and gear for athletes. Before Adidas, Nike, or anyone else, Under Armor had their giant logo on the double doors in the Wrigley Field outfield. Now they create so many college unis. I never thought Notre Dame would move away from their Adidas contract, and then they chose to sign with Under Armor. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if they eventually did something crazy like put Mitchell and Ness out of business.

Entertainment Weekly just announced Smackdown is moving to USA in 2016, and the new Tough Enough season will be on USA starting 6/23.

The official WWE release

Here's the official release from WWE:

NEW YORK, NY and STAMFORD, CONN – April 7, 2015 – USA is expanding its commitment to the live action entertainment company WWE, bringing SmackDown to the network in the first quarter of 2016. Now the exclusive cable home to WWE marquee properties, USA airs the powerhouse Monday Night Raw live 52 weeks a year and the reality competition series WWE Tough Enough, which returns this summer in a reimagined format with live elements.

“WWE consistently delivers one of the largest and most socially engaged live audiences in entertainment and we’re excited to expand our long-standing relationship and be the true cable home for the WWE fan,” said USA Network President Chris McCumber.

“WWE is proud to have SmackDown join Raw as part of our expanded partnership with USA Network,” said WWE Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Vince McMahon.  “The combination of the #1 cable network and two ratings juggernauts provides a destination for our viewers and an extraordinary platform for our partners.”

Earlier this year, USA announced the renewal of WWE Tough Enough, premiering Tuesday, June 23 at 8/7c.  The reimagined series will feature an all-new format with live elements and more fan participation than ever before. In addition, WWE recently unveiled a new brand campaign “For The Hero In All of Us,” that engages consumers through #MyHeroIs, inviting fans to name their favorite WWE Superstars and share personal and inspirational stories of heroism.

Monday Night Raw on USA is the most-watched, regularly scheduled, year-round program on cable, airing a live three-hour block every Monday night, 52 weeks a year. Raw has been a cable mainstay for more than 20 years and is consistently a top ten show on television. Year-to-date Raw averages 1.95MM P18-49, 2.02MM P25-54 and 4.43MM total viewers P2+ and SmackDown averages 1.1MM P18-49, 1.22MM P25-54, and 2.86MM total viewers P2+. In 2014, Raw and SmackDown reached 55.9MM total viewers P2+.

With more than 800 original episodes, SmackDown is the second longest-running weekly episodic program in U.S. television history, only behind Monday Night Raw. Over the past 15 years, SmackDown has been broadcast from 170 different venues, in 148 cities, in seven different countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Iraq, Japan, Italy and Mexico.

Has anyone done a history/review of the XFL that goes beyond "Lol Vince failed"?

There were so many things that went wrong that they had little control over, but could have been alleviated with a little foresight.

There's a very good book called Long Bomb: How the XFL Became TV's Biggest Fiasco that literally goes week by week through the entire season and shows how huge the promotion was when it started and how/why it failed as huge as it did.  You can get it on Amazon for three bucks.

Click on that switch-looking thing in the upper left of the reply box. This will grey out all the idiot-tools like the bold button and require you to use board-code instead.

Enclose the word "youtube" in brackets ([]), and follow that with the URL of the youtube video you are attempting to link. Following that with "/youtube", again in brackets. Voila.

"We told you last week about an “ugly incident” between Scott Steiner and Hulk Hogan’s wife Jennifer that led to Big Poppa Pump being banned from WWE’s Hall of Fame ceremony. Details of the incident are starting to emerge, and according to TMZ Sports, they’re a worst-case scenario: Steiner is now being investigated for felony terrorist threats (!!) for physically confronting her and allegedly threatening to kill the Hulkster.

From this morning’s report:

Here’s what we know … Hulk’s wife Jennifer flew into San Jose for WrestleMania on March 26th — and claims Steiner grabbed her at baggage claim and said he plans to “kill Terry” [Hulk’s real name] as soon as he lands.

Sources close to the Hogans tell us … Jennifer didn’t recognize Steiner and called Hulk immediately — who took the next flight into S.J. and went with her to file a police report early the next morning.

We’re told cops are now investigating Steiner for “felony terrorist threats” — and so far, officials have already gathered airport surveillance video which we’re told shows Steiner confronting Jennifer.

As for Steiner, he’s been very public about his dislike of Hogan for years — and blames him for the demise of WCW wrestling … where Scott and Hulk were allies in the NWO.

You may read that and think, “Scott Steiner is an insane old wrestler and was just cutting a promo and can’t tell the difference between fantasy and real life.” If the allegations are true, Steiner’s comment on the investigation confirm this:

We reached out to Steiner for comment — who told us, “Typical Hogan. He’s just a punk.”

Word to all wrestlers: You can’t say the stuff you’d say about other wrestlers on a wrestling show to people in real life, even if they’re your former co-workers. It just doesn’t translate. It’s like trying to do math in a wrestling promo. You can threaten peoples’ lives on television and get away with it because it’s all part of the show. If you’re cutting promos on one terrified lady in an airport? Totally different.

We’ll keep you updated on the investigation as it unfolds. Until then, we’ll imagine Steiner went through the San Jose airport like they were the crowd at Ring Ka King."

So all the video shows is Scott getting angry at Jennifer?

Scott's known tho fly off the handle but at the same time, the only lie detector test Hogan could ever pass is the doctored one from Smackdown.

I'd guess Steiner knew who she says, told her to tell Terry that he's a motherfucking pussy bitch, and went on his way. Jennifer calls Hogan to tell him a large muscular man confronted her in the airport and said vulgar things about him, he exaggerates the story. Still considering Steiner has a pending lawsuit against Hogan, this is really really dumb.

Which is why Scotty's response was what a 12 year old bully would say when his victim went to a parent/teacher/cop instead of fighting him after school. As opposed to, you know, anything that resembles a denial.

That's Scott's response for anything though. The problem for me is it's very possible that Steiner said some stupid shit, it's also very possible that Hogan is lying as I'm not sure Hogan knows the meaning of the word "truth". I hope Steiner isn't that stupid to ruin his lawsuit against Hogan/Bischoff/TNA

There are actually people who think that if you have a beef with a guy it's perfectly acceptable to harass the guy's wife in an airport because "Hahaha, Scott Steiner!"......got it.

I mean, even if they exaggerated what he said (which could go either way, who knows) it takes a real piece of shit to confront a man's wife over your problem with said man.
