Wimbledon's refusal to use that expensive roof they have infuriates me. You know rain is coming, close the damned thing, and keep playing.

I love Novak so much. He was trash-talking the crowd. And rightfully so, since they kept interrupting him and the like during serves. I get pulling for Federer, but come on.

Sharapova's refusal to even TRY something different against Williams is mind-boggling. You can't overpower her, how about trying some finesse shots, get her running and out of her normal comfort level of pounding shots from the baseline?

Maria would rather film another TV commercial than get into the gym and build the strength she needs to beat Serena.
"get into the gym" and "build the strength"
Maria Sharapova: "I can't handle lifting more than five pounds. It's just annoying and too much hard work"

Quote is from a recent NY Times article discussing how many top women's tennis players don't want to be muscular because of body image issues.

Yeah, I'm not comparing Sharapova to Serena. Serena's making an argument as the best woman's tennis player of all-time and the best female athlete of my lifetime. She's just absolutely amazing. The difference her and everyone else right now is essentially the same gap between Sharapova's career and Kournikova.

I don't know how old you are, , but I'd put Jackie Joyner-Kersee is way ahead of Serena. Top 5 female athlete...definitely, but not the GOAT.

What an airhead.  She deserves every beatdown Serena, Vika, and anyone else hands her.  Too busy wanting to be the perfect pretty princess instead of kicking more ass on the court.

Canadian television aired a Genie Bouchard for the upcoming Rogers Cup where she makes the claim "My focus is on the court". Uh, if that's were your focus is, you lack focus. Big time.

I actually think the media have been their usual dogshit terrible selves about this whole thing.

If her focus hasn't been on the game, the media are directly to blame for that, because they are the ones that from the very beginning have made Genie a thing specifically because she is young, blonde, beautiful, and (at least as far as tennis allows) pretty outspoken.

It's typical paparazzi attitude I guess. Canonize someone for being famous, begin building an industry around demanding of their time to feed the fame, then knock them for not being focused on their chosen glorious art.

None of that really takes anything away from the fact she has to play better, of course.

Damn, no American men in the Top 10 in Flushing.

Well, at least Krygios gets to be stomped by Andy Murray in the first round.

I wish Krygios had a better draw. Dude is so naturally hatable.

Kei is in a battle. Up 2-1 and going into a tiebreak in the fourth set. He's one of my favorite guys to watch, but he's also awesome in a 5th set.

Sad to see Heather Watson get bounced in the first round of the Open but good on ya to Lauren Davis repping the USA.

Donald Young with an epic five-set comeback. He was absolutely getting crushed and down 2-0 and down 3-0 in the third. Amazing comeback and super exciting. I hope he goes on a run -- he's super charismatic and has so much athleticism. He's always been a headcase but if he straightens himself out he might be able to get on a bit of a run.

Not that she needs the help, but all of the other top 10 seeds on the same side of the draw as Serena Williams lost in the first round, meaning she won't play a top 10 player until the finals of the U.S. Open. That leaves Venus Williams and Eugenie Bouchard (HAHAHA) as seeded players on her half of the draw that might stop her before the final.

Raonic wins with a bad back, Genie Bouchard wins ~two matches in a row~, Canada lives.

Great booking by the USTA

Well, she has Aga and Bencic in her half too. Bencic did just beat her.

Jack Sock collapsing mid-match (up 2 sets to 1) was so friggin' scary. Dude looked like his eyes were about to roll in the back of his head.

My man Donald Young lost the first set and then steamrolled. He's always just needed some confidence. If he found his game, he's going to go on a roll and this is going to get real fun.

Andy Murray lost the first two sets against some guy I've never heard of. He won the third 6-1. All even at the fourth. They're trying to make each other run and there's a lot of net play. Great stuff.

The Genie Army marches on!!! She's into the sweet 16, and still alive in doubles and mixed doubles.

Serena waited until she was down a set, and tied 5-5 in the second to kick into high gear, but once she did, holy crap!

Rafa Nadal has also given up a two set lead, and is down a break to Fabio Fognini in the 5th set. It's not really a US Open until they play past 1 am.

1- I am shocked Nadal hasn't faked an injury yet.

2- WHO IS THIS ITALIAN PERSON!?! Great match.

And Nadal falls to a record of 151-1 when up 2 sets to 0.

How about that.

Only caught the fifth set. Insanely great tennis. They were clobbering the hell out of the ball and running down everything. Unreal. I had no idea that was Rafa's record when up 2-0. Dude's losing it physically but he is an absolute warrior. But credit to this Fabio kid for gutting that out. He just pounds it.

Watch most of the 5th set while also watching Boise vs. Washington.

I caught the 4th and 5th sets. And the break-fest part of the 5th set was absurdly entertaining. It seems like Fognini just made Nadal run until Fognini found an opening.

Eugenie Bouchard update...

She has pulled out of the women's doubles and mixed doubles today, due to a head injury sustained when she slipped and fell in the locker room last night. She's still in the women's singles draw for now.

#BlameKygrios

Man, that's a real shame. First time in a while she's looked like she's on track.

She looked like she was actually having fun again during the mixed doubles match last night.
