muhammedboehm Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Two questions. 1) to those who think this was all for ratings why not then put tOSU vs Oregan in the Rose to keep that tradition? 2) do the people who claim this was the commetie why of telling the big 12 to get two more realy think the out come would have been diffrent if yesterday's KSU/Baylor game had been a championship game?
EVA Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Well, Jeff Long outright said that the 13th game was a big influence on their decision. Can't get much clearer than that.
Hail Sabin Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Orange Bowl 12 Georgia Tech vs. 7 Miss St Peach Bowl 9 Ole Miss vs. 6 TCU Fiesta Bowl 20 Boise St vs. 10 Arizona Cotton Bowl 8 Michigan St vs. 5 Baylor As revealed on the ESPN playoff show.
BillThompson Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Another good match-up for Boise. I think we can take this one, but at the very least it will be a competitive game.
Hail Sabin Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I think Boise can win that game they will need to keep their QB upright and get after Arizona's QB. 1
evilwaldo Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Big 12 commish: We need to add 2 teams next year. Secretary: Boise State on line 1 sir and Marshall on line 2. Big 12 commish: Put Boise on hold. Marshall, you want in? Sure, no problem, you are in. Thanks, bye. We just need one more. Secretary: Boise on line 1. Big 12 commish: Just need one more team. Maybe Colorado St. No, they just lost their coach. Maybe I can entice BYU if I let them keep their network. Secretary: Boise on line 1. Big 12 commish: Get me BYU on line 2. My joke meter is broken, does this imply the Big 12 thinks they are better than Boise, or that Boise is better than the Big 12? I think it implies that they want to add to cream puffs(or as close to it as possible) and not a team that could fuck some of their team up. . . Spot on. Does any big 5 conference want Boise? The last thing anyone wants is Boise to come in and win the conference title the first year. 1
Hail Sabin Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Honestly the Big 12 would make the most sense outside of joining the Pac 12.
EVA Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Nobody is scared of Boise winning their conference. No major conference will give Boise the time of day because they bring nothing to the table in terms of TV markets. Nobody is desperate to add Idaho to their footprint.
Niners Fan in CT Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 you'd have a hard time convincing me that Minnesota is demonstrably better than Cincinnati. Maybe but we are discussing a common opponent. Ohio St. struggled with Minny while TCU waxed them.
Tabe Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Nobody is scared of Boise winning their conference. No major conference will give Boise the time of day because they bring nothing to the table in terms of TV markets. Nobody is desperate to add Idaho to their footprint. The other problem with Boise is that they bring less than nothing to the table in sports other than football.
BillThompson Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Nobody is scared of Boise winning their conference. No major conference will give Boise the time of day because they bring nothing to the table in terms of TV markets. Nobody is desperate to add Idaho to their footprint. They've proven time and again that not only can they hang with major conference teams, but they can beat them. Should they join a major conference there would be growing pains, no doubt. But, it's naive to think that the major conferences don't look at Boise and say, "Is it really worth bringing them in and possibly knocking off some of our already established top teams?" That's not to say the lack of a TV market doesn't play a role, it's probably the main factor, but there's also a healthy amount of not wanting to lose face to a team that the casual fan still, misguidedly so, thinks of as inferior to every major conference team.
Brian Fowler Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 TCU definitely has the better loss, but do that have a win as good as blowing out Sparty?
Niners Fan in CT Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 TCU definitely has the better loss, but do that have a win as good as blowing out Sparty? They blew out K-State. I wouldn't say Sparty is that much better. On a neutral field MSU/K-State is a 23-20 type of game.
Burgundy LaRue Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 The committee punished the Big 12 for being giant pussies and declaring co-champions this Ohio St is in to be fed to Bama on New Year's Day. How did I miss this? Alabama = Ryback. FEED SABAN MOAR URBAN.

Nobody cares about any of that. It's all about the additional revenue you can bring to the table. If fear of the usurper could keep a moneymaker out of the major conferences, then Utah and TCU wouldn't be where they are today. But both brought something of value to their respective conferences. Utah expanded the Pac-12's footprint and brought in the Salt Lake City market. TCU helped the Big 12 compensate for the loss of A&M in Texas. Boise brings nothing to the table. Plain and simple. Believe me, as a Southern Miss fan, I'm well aware of the fairytales that fans of quality mid-major programs tell themselves to make themselves feel better about their lot in the grand scheme of things. But its simply not true.

EVA Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Poor South Alabama. You get your first bowl bid in history and you get to go to...Montgomery. I'd be like, "Nah, we'll just wait till next year."
Gonzo Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Gophers draw Missouri in the Citrus Bowl. Should be pretty interesting.

Brian Fowler Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Hey, if Marshall had just finished the season off strong, they'd quite possibly be in one of the non-playoff money games. They didn't get the job done. Instead Boise State gets that slot.
cubbymark Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Of that massive list of otherwise meaningless bowl games, Go Boston College!

But its simply not true. But here is the thing, Southern Miss is not a threat to beat anybody? Boise is in major bowl talk every year and regularly ranked in the Top 25. While they may not bring lots of tv viewers they do bring a lot of national recognition.
Brian Fowler Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 But they don't bring money or a tv market. Good team? Yes. Useful to a Power Five conference? Nope.
APO Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 National recognition is meaningless is you can't bring in more cash. Fact of life in major college sports.
Brian Fowler Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Put another way, they wouldn't expand the amount of money the Big XII (or PAC 12) brings in enough to offset the extra slice being taken out of the pie. Although the added money of a conference title game might for the Big XII, but they'd still much rather have a team that makes the league more valuable in and of itself.
