supremebve Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Pace goes in before Boseli. It's not even close. And really, if guys like Jim Lachey, Richmond Webb and Jumbo Elliott aren't under serious consideration, neither should Boseli. All three had better NFL careers. Define better. I think all of those guys were better over a long period of time, but I don't know if any of them were better than him at his peak. Boseli was an outstanding left tackle and arguably the best in the league while healthy. If I was a voter, I'd vote him in based on the fact that I think if you are the best player at your position for more than a season or two. Why is it someone like Michael Irvin, who was a great player, but was never the best player at his position a surefire Hall of Famer? Why is it that Boseli, who wasn't great for as long as Irvin, but was better in comparison to his peers a surefire Hall of Famer? I think the Hall of Fame should be a museum of the best football players of all time. In a game that is as violent as football, I don't think we should punish players for getting injured.
EdA Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Personally, the real fucking travesty is Dungy is getting consideration again. For what? Who the fuck knows? Meanwhile, there's a certain guy named Tom Flores who won two fucking SB's, doesn't gay bash (at least publicly) and was the first minority to win it all. But hey, Dungy! Whee!
supremebve Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I don't get what the voters think the hall of fame is supposed to represent. If it is a museum to commemorate the history of football, and all of the figures that matter they seem to go about it the wrong way. Madden is looked at as a football god, but ultimately led the Raiders to one championship. Flores, who didn't have the regular season success that Madden had, won two championships. Both guys should be in. The Raiders under Madden and Flores were a combined 186-85 with three championships. That is one of the greatest runs in NFL history, but somehow only Madden gets the praise. Dungy was a very good coach who turned around one of the biggest shit show franchises in NFL history, made the Tampa 2 defense popular, and won a Super Bowl with Peyton Manning. That isn't bad, but not as good as Flores' resume. The Hall of Fame should be a place you can go to answer the following questions, Who were the best players ever? Who were the best teams? Who were the best coaches ever? So everyone answers any of those questions should be in. So guys like Terrell Davis who were the best at their position at one point and was the best player on two championship teams should be in. You can't tell me that someone like Curtis Martin is a more worthy Hall of Famer, when Davis was clearly the better player. Curtis Martin was a very good runningback who I don't object to being in the Hall of Fame, but there is no one who watched both of their careers who would pick Martin over Davis at their peak.
Josh Mann Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Jimmy Johnson is also going to be an interesting case. He had a relatively short NFL career but an extremely successful one* and has Dungy's main accomplishment (resurrecting a franchise) matched with the top line of Flores' resume (2 rings). *As long as we forget 1996-1999 ever happened. Instinct says he will get in eventually, but not yet.

Kuetsar Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Reports coming out that Bettis is in I guess he had the numbers, but he always seemed overrated to me. Also Ron Wolf is in. . .
muhammedboehm Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Looks like the big names are Junior Seau LB Chargers, Jerome Bettis RB Steelers, Tim Brown WR Raiders, Will Shields G Chiefs. Others Mick Tingelhoff C Vikings, Bill Polian GM ESPN, Ron Wolf NFL

The Man Known as Dan Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 No freaking Pace? I thought he was clearly the best player on the ballot.
KidNatural Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 No, Seau was the best player in this class. Shields and Pace are on the same level.
The Man Known as Dan Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 No, Seau was the best player in this class. Shields and Pace are on the same level. Respectfully disagree, but still shows how silly this is to me. I'd take Pace over every single name on that list of players, but especially Bettis and Brown. Different positions and all, but Pace is an all time great at his position, and probably the best LT of the last 25 years. Were does Bettis rank among best among the Brst RB's of the last 25 years, to you.
Josh Mann Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 So are they going to make a bust of Charles Haley's head or his dong? 1

I thought that Pace would get in, but Shields was as good. With Bettis? With Brown? Bettis is in the same breath as Curtis Martin at the very least and with Brown they finally stopped that logjam that they had at WR.
Josh Mann Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Walter Jones > Orlando Pace. And that's not being disrespectful to Pace. Walter Jones was just that good.
Niners Fan in CT Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I'm glad Brown finally got in but is he better than Harrison? Nope.
Kuetsar Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I'm glad Brown finally got in but is he better than Harrison? Nope. Harrison might wait a bit so the voters make sure they HOF won't be embarrassed by anything that might come down the pike. Bettis was one of King's Buddy picks, I guess we ought to be grateful he didn't get Dungy in too. . .
johnnyboy Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Not a Broncos fan by any stretch of the imagination, (except during the Tebow era <3) but who does TD have to sleep with to get in?

Brian Fowler Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 He played ten more career games than Gale Sayers though.

Which makes it the Hall of Grinders for those who were able to stay fit to compile some more career yards. It's not like he was a flash in the pan who had one good season, of which there are many. I'm not going to be putting up banners for Jamal Lewis or Chris Johnson based on their single 2,000 yard seasons. Did he play big in the big games? - check. 6 players have 1000+ playoff rushing yards. TD is the only one who isn't in the hall. He's also the only one who did it in a career of less than 10 seasons. Rings? - check (x2). Also Super Bowl MVP! Individual accomplishments? - check. 2,000 yard season, 3x 1,500 yard seasons, NFL MVP. (1000+ yards in every season he played anything near a full season) #4 all time yards/game rushing. (Only one of those elligible in the top 5 not in the HoF.) Overcoming adversity bonus round - check. Played through crushing migraines, including the famous "don't worry about seeing." (Player safety~!) Injuries cut him off in his prime? - somehow that's an instant fail. I could understand it if it was a single decent season or even two, but there are many hall of fame players who never had 4 year windows as good as Davis'. e.g. My man Curtis Martin, who is totally deserving of being in the hall, never had back to back to back 1500+ yard rushing seasons but he did compile a ton of yards (less per game than TD) due to a longer career. Personally, "outstanding" for that window is at least as deserving as "really very good" for a longer period. 1
dogwelder Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I wonder if Shanny's ability to generate 1000 yard rushers from almost anyone has hurt TD's chances. 1
