ebbie
I think Nash beating Goldberg was the right call. OK, I'll bite. Why? We got to see Goldberg get taser'd.
Sammo~!
Having Goldberg lose the title to a heel through nefarious means so he can eventually get revenge was the right call. Having him lose it to Nash who gives it to Hogan and then just getting tased on weekly TV all the time might have been a misstep.
cool arrow
Obviously it didn't matter ultimately since WWF was red hot by then and the WCW death spiral was inevitable, but still, I think Hogan just getting his win back at Starrcade would've been better for... well, you know. Niners Fan in CT
I like to see long winning streaks ended right in the middle of the ring with no bullshit. Lesnar destroying Taker was perfect.
Yo-Yo's Roomie
Goldberg's whole title reign was booked poorly. I think they should have built Bret up as the one to end it.
Dre013
I agree with Niners it should be clean. Not convinced Nash was the guy however. That's the kind of win that builds a star, not gives a win to an old guy/booker who lays down the next night.
Matt D
Frankly, they could have run with Goldberg as US champ for six more months, or whatever. Or even delayed him getting it and had him work up from the TV Title or something, with each title vacated as he moved up.
cool arrow
Well, they could (and should) have saved Goldberg-Hogan for PPV too but Bischoff wanted to pop the rating, so...
SirSmUgly
I think DDP should have been the one to end it. If you watch Havoc, the fans would have bought a flash Diamond Cutter as a legit way to beat Goldberg, AND DDP was much more fresh than anyone else they could have chosen at that point (though I kinda like the "build Bret Hart to win it" idea, too).
Dre013
Did they have anyone south of 35 who deserved it? Or am I just pinpointing the issue with WCW as a whole.
Brian Fowler
At the time, I would have thought giving the win to Page was crazy, but since the streak didn't even make it to the end of the year anyway... You can't protect a guy in a loss anymore than they did Goldberg, it's the booking after the fact that sunk it.
Yo-Yo's Roomie
Scott Steiner may have been the only relatively fresh face who was close to being a believable challenger at that point. He was really over as a heel, and was doing some great work. Plus, we later learnt that he had great chemistry with Goldberg.
ivpvideos
I always say the fingerpoke wouldn't have been that bad if Goldberg destroys Bigelow, Hall and Nash before getting Hogan in early Summer and reclaiming the belt. Then he keeps it until Starrcade when Scott Steiner wins it starting a huge heel run.

Then he keeps it until Starrcade when Scott Steiner wins it starting a huge heel run.  Agreed. I think they should have taken a cue from the Sting chase in '97 or Austin's chase on WWF TV and had Goldberg "start from the bottom" before finally getting his shot. I think they later ran some kind of streak-redux where that was the general idea, but it was way after WCW mattered anymore.   I think Nash beating Goldberg was the right call.  Nash was getting huge reactions at that time, and though he was booking, I can't imagine the fingerpoke was his call. I often wonder how much of Nash's popularity was the perception that he was a WWF guy
Matt D
Years ago he said that doing the fingerpoke was the only way he was ever going to get the belt and thus be a WWF and WCW champion. He's a bullshit artist though.
Cobra Commander
Random thought: if the WWE did an angle similar to the Flair/Funk 1989 feud, the former champ in the Terry Funk role would be.... Kurt Angle.
ivpvideos
Goldberg's title run was such a waste. A squash against Hennig, a random battle royale win, being left off of two ppvs. Only two matches that mattered were DDP and Nash.
MoeCristyV.1.6
It wasn't even a random Battle Royal...it was the nWo Battle Royal, were he jackhammered Giant just because. That could have been a main event...
SirSmUgly
Yeah, when did the Giant give notice that he was going to WWF? Seems like having Goldberg run through him right at the end of Giant's time there would have been a good idea.  Having Goldberg defend the WCW Heavyweight Championship in the midcard against jobbers and midcarders is the most blatant act of booker sabotage that I can think of. They could have made so much money off Goldberg. Terrible.
