The tag says Spears Mattress Company, so I guess that's what it is. We paid about 400 for it.

An HPD cop killed himself the other day.  He was being investigated for some overtime fraud -- he and his partner would put each other's name on a ticket, regardless of whether they were there or not so that they'd both get subpoenaed for a case and collect the overtime.  Since the vast majority of the time people plea out before trial, they got away with it for a long time.

When I was a prosecutor, this guy was involved in some capacity in a bunch of my trials.  Since trials mostly consist of waiting around, we had many, many conversations, usually never about the actual cases.  He had kids, a wife, the same annoyances and travails we all have.  He got out of the DWI Task Force and I hadn't encountered him for years.

He wasn't a bad bad cop (he didn't shoot people -- as if that's some difficult bar to achieve), and he was generally pretty courteous with DWI suspects, which is rare.  He made mistakes, but I wouldn't have said they were out of malice -- more out of incompetence or tiredness (for example, guesstimating a 15 minute observation period instead of actually timing it).

But he got in trouble for lying about overtime.  That's not a death penalty case.  It's very very sad.

I put old pillows under the mattress which helped. Can't flip it over because the bottom is not like the top.

Really, I don't even want a mattress. If it weren't for my wife, I'd sleep on the floor.

Bad back, or do you just prefer the floor?

Just figured out my class schedule for this semester, and something stands out to me.

Two of the classes I'm taking are history classes from alternative perspectives (US w/ women's studies perspective, World w/ LGBT focus). They let out the latest of all of my classes, at 9:40PM. They happen on the literal opposite end of the campus from the dorms (imagine a square: classes are in the north west, dorms are in the south east). My school happens to have an exceptionally high rate of robberies and muggings.

This is me, knocking on wood and figuring out who schedules these fucking classes.

I prefer the floor. I think beds suck and take up space.

Since I work in a casual-dress office, 90% of my socks are either white or black, so I just toss socks with holes and buy new ones, but it's just annoying.

My office is so casual that I don't wear socks at all.

Same with my office. I usually just wear sandals or sit barefoot at my desk.

The barefoot stuff is frowned upon, but that's mainly if you're walking around barefoot.

I've accumulated a lot of glassware over the last seven years - pints, snifters, goblets, and everything in between. In the new apartment, we have a large cabinet right above our stove that was perfect for all of it. In it went.

Five months later...

The cabinet came loose from the wall, and I lost probably about 90% of my glassware. To be completely honest, I'm more concerned about getting the cabinet securely mounted so this won't happen again - I'm pretty sure the steam from the stove over all of these years ended up loosening the screws enough to the point where it finally gave out.

I'm just imagining being in another room in the house when that happens, hearing the sound, and thinking "Oh man, this isn't going to be good."

I was maybe ten feet away, sitting on the couch watching Justified....and then, it sounded like the gates of hell opened. I just kind of stood there staring for a minute or two.

Really, I *did* have too much glassware, and a lot of it was given to me...but still, it mostly sucks because there were memories tied to them. It is what it is. Friends are offering me replacements, which is really great. I've cut back my drinking at home a good deal, so I really don't need some sort of massive array anymore. On the bright side, when I go to a brewery with my girlfriend now, the "you have too much glassware" excuse won't fly anymore.

Maintenance guys came and fixed the cabinet today, told me that if it ever fell again, the ceiling would be coming down with it. That was reassuring.

Oh...f' you to my garbage disposal, which died last night. For what it's worth though, it looks so old that I'm thinking it's the first one ever made...

My simple little plans for smoking ribs for a few people has just turned into me basically bbq catering a 10-person party on less than 24 hours notice.  Ugh.

Not so much a SON OF A for me, but you should really avoid misspelling "detail oriented" on your resume...

On an application last year, a prospective employee listed 'attention to detail' as a skill on his resume.....twice. I had a good laugh.

I have a sinus/tooth ache from HELL. I've never been in so much pain in my life. . .  It comes on in waves, usually more intense at night. Thank goodness my mom has fibromalgia and can spare a couple of pain pills. Being under employed and having no insurance doesn't help either, though thankfully ISU has a low cost dental clinic. . .

I work at an animal shelter.  I got bit in the face today around the left eye and ended up getting 9 stitches.  YAY

Was it a Rage-virus monkey?  If so, you may have buried the lede.  I suppose such attention to detail might be lost, however, if you are consumed by rage and a need to bite into human flesh.
