Super Ape Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 ANYWAY... First my back, and now my knee. I'm 29 and falling apart.
Zimbra Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 ANYWAY... First my back, and now my knee. I'm 29 and falling apart. So much this. I've got foot problems that are now starting to give me knee problems. At least it's a good reason for me to finally lose some damn weight.
Kuetsar Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Friend calls me to tell me of a job opening, send in my résumé and all that along with a cover letter. Never written a cover letter before, so I'm somewhat nervous about that, plus, I've been at the job I'm at for over 10 years so I'm....comfortable, but I know I've reached the proverbial glass ceiling. Any tips for writing a good cover letter? Most job service websites will have some templates, or just look up one online. Basically its just some introduction with a highlight of your qualifications, but depending on the industry, writing one up, then using a thesaurus to change some verbage wouldn't/couldn't hurt. 1
Bustronaut Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Full disclosure, Mike. . .I didn't like your post there because I think your situation is funny or anything. But that GIF is awesome. Hopefully your issue will get corrected one way or another. He's 95% certain it's NOT A TOO-MAH, but said we should wait another 6 months to see if it gets better, because there was such a marked improvement in 3 months (and if it gets worse before then I should schedule something immediately) I'm just annoyed I had to waste another specialist co-pay to find out what I (and my GP) was pretty sure of back in April.
Bustronaut Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 All of you move the fuck on NOW Such a bullshit way of dealing with a perfectly civil discussion. For those so annoyed, there's an unofficial DVDVR group on Facebook that started up when the board was down last summer. Super Ape Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 ANYWAY... First my back, and now my knee. I'm 29 and falling apart. So much this. I've got foot problems that are now starting to give me knee problems. At least it's a good reason for me to finally lose some damn weight. I'm already around 360 or so. With my bum knee and back, moving around can be very tough, especially enough to resemble something like physical activity. DDPYoga, ahoy!

Any tips for writing a good cover letter? Your cover letter should be addressed to the hiring manager, or if it's HR department doing the hiring, the HR person in charge. The meat of it should be you stating your understanding of the job and its requirements, and why you are a good fit for that job, (whether you're citing experience or positive qualities.) If there's a public listing of the job on a website or the like, use some of the company's phrasing in this. Additionally, see if you can get a feel from either the company's site or your friend on what company culture is like, and try to both show that you've done some looking at the company, and try to represent yourself as a culture fit. 1
Raziel Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Speaking of Facebook, this foux-charity fad shit is driving me insane and taking every fiber of my being not to snap with a "you're all shallow and won't give a shit about any of this in a month because you all are only doing this because it's hip right now" diatribe. 1

Brian Fowler Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Assuming you're talking about the ALS thing, sure, it's a fad and it's hip... But they've also raised 15 million bucks during it, as opposed to roughly 2 million during the same time period last year. So, I say, hooray hip fad charity fundraiser. 5
Cristobal Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Of all the things to get hipster-ish about, charitable giving? 1
RIPPA Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 All of you move the fuck on NOW Such a bullshit way of dealing with a perfectly civil discussion. An admin decided to close a thread. There is a long standing board policy of not discussing "current events" Folks were passive agressively bitching about a board poster and an admin decision I am sorry these are "bullshit" things for you 3
J.T. Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 All of you move the fuck on NOW Such a bullshit way of dealing with a perfectly civil discussion. An admin decided to close a thread. There is a long standing board policy of not discussing "current events" Shit always gets ugly in threads like those especially when you have anonymity on your side. I can barely discuss this matter with people I have emotional investment in like family and friends, much less co-workers with whom I have a casual relationship.. The Ferguson thread was a boiling kettle with a cork jammed into the spout. 1
glfpunk Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I'm just wondering what we are afraid of. Is it people having differing opinions? Or is it more of the discussions creating additional police work on the board? It just seems like a good place to be able to have a discussion about something so important. We all talk to each other on this board and have all sorts of differing opinions on sports, movies, etc. But the really important stuff we can't talk about because someone might make an ass of themselves and have to get booted? 2
MADCAP Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I think it's a bullshit decision also, to quell discussion about major happenings that could have huge implications on our country, but alas, this isn't my board, nor am I one of the admins, so instead of being upset and provoking, I just keep it moving... 2
piranesi Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Politics Religion Porn They're the fault in our stars. And they're very important. So important that they devour everything else. And I am so thankful to have one fucking place on the internet to not have to see them so I can talk about everything else. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go spend some spiritual time with a GIF of Lana waving a flag. 7
Burgundy LaRue Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I see it both ways. On one hand, I understand TPTB not wanting to deal with the drama of policing those kind of threads. The board is supposed to be fun. But at the same time, there have been worse arguments in other threads over truly trivial stuff. Heaven knows I've been a part of a few internet donnybrooks, most of them here. I don't know. Ultimately, it's not my call to make.
jaedmc Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 The discussion about whether this is right or wrong is over. Before becoming an admin I was a proponent for having Current Events discussions, because I wanted to be able to talk about these things. I consider DVDVR to be more than just a wrestling message board, and here we're able to discuss a myriad of topics from mundane shit like comic book movie adaptions to serious stuff like the death of someone's lone suffering mother. I've also seen how negative it can get and how some of that negativity carries on from topic to topic. I'd love to police that kind of thing, but what I've realized is that we'd end up banning most of the board, including some very long time posters who's views we may not even necessarily disagree with it. There are many outlets available to you in order to discuss what's going on in Ferguson. Sadly, this place is not one of them. Instead of looking at this as a negative, feel free to use DVDVR as a place where you can let go for 15 minutes and enjoy people's company. If you want to discuss it with someone in particular at this board you can DM them OR you can find me on twitter - I'm talking about this shit when I wake up and when I go to sleep practically. And I implore you to continue discussing this topic and others like it with your friends and family and get out of your house and hit the streets and discuss it with strangers if you are so moved. It is important. We just can't house the discussion and others like it here. This is not up for debate any more. This is the last word on the subject. Please respect that and fight the fight somewhere else. Any more posting on the subject will result in a week off. 13
Cristobal Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 <thoroughly moderate, well-reasoned post edited out> I hope you're all happy.
piranesi Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I saw that post. It just said "Hunter's boobs" over and over. 1
Craig H Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 This is like the fourth sock this week that's had a hole in it. Do I have sock-eating weasels or something? Sounds like you need to declare sock bankruptcy. If you have the means to do so, do it. I usually just toss most of my socks, turn them into craft things, or make them into dust rags every couple years and just get new socks.
Cristobal Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Since I work in a casual-dress office, 90% of my socks are either white or black, so I just toss socks with holes and buy new ones, but it's just annoying.
piranesi Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I know someone who will take all your old ones. GUYS, I"M BUILIDN A BOAT AN I NEED MOAR SOKCES 3
