No posting the theme song for Spectre when it came out last Friday?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjuuXgWhD3E

Not doing it for me, doesn't go up a level like they do. Who knows, might grow on me.

On the subject of James Bond theme songs, my top five:

1. Live and Let Die

2. Goldfinger

3. Nobody Does It Better

4. Skyfall

5. GoldenEye

You Know My Name only just missed my top five.

When editing my last post, I removed two of my three honourable mentions with You Know My Name. The two: The World Is Not Enough and The Living Daylights.

Sam Smith's Writing's On The Wall has made history by becoming the first Bond theme to reach number one in the UK. The previous highest placement was shared by Duran Duran's View To A Kill and Adele's Skyfall which both reached number two. Shame Smith's is the first to do so.

Released today:

I don't know enough of them, but you could probably make a pretty good list of "unofficial" Bond songs, e.g. the Johnny Cash cover, or Muse's Supremacy.

I listened to the Sam Smith song the other day and hated it. Musically it fits Bond with the big orchestral feel. But Smith ruins the song by trying to sing out of his octave with all of those high notes. We get it. He's the male Adele...but at least she can hit high notes. Honestly I'm amazed they said okay to that. Granted it's not "Die Another Day" bad as Elton John says. But it sounded like he was trying way too hard and was way out of his leauge.

Ugh. Just heard it. He'd have been better off pairing with an actual soprano and letting her hit the highs.

The guys on the James Bonding podcast have played quite a few of the unofficial theme songs. There's definitely enough for an album. I think Tomorrow Never Dies was the bake off one where they had like five groups submit songs.

I still haven't gotten over the fact Dave "I walk alone" Bautista is going to be a significant player in a 007 movie. That fucking rules. :D

Not a fan of that song, as it's like the least catchiest Bond theme since Man With The Golden Gun, maybe... but at least that was goofy/campy fun. For Your Eyes Only did the slow pace, less melodic styling better than this too.

Can you imagine doing another Bond movie?

‘Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.’

Haha, that's awesome. Was it ever confirmed that Idris Elba would be the next Bond or was that just hearsay? I don't think he'd be "shit". Quite the opposite. Craig was an excellent Bond and he really helped revitalize a near death franchise. His performance in Casino Royale was just about perfect. Too bad the next few didn't quite live up to the promise of his first film, but at least he didn't have a Brosnan-esque fall off in quality after a great start. I have hope that Spectre will be a grand finale to his ark. Also Batista. And Batista snapping necks.

So is this Craig's last Bond movie now?

I don't know, Walken tried his ass off to save View with eating every piece of scenery when he was on screen.  The only Brosnon villian that went over the top to overcome a shit script was Pryce.

I say that because Berry trying to go female Bond in a bad Bond flick was so terrible it cancelled out Pike's awesomeness.

Now Octopussy... holy shit...

GoldenEye was good. But I'd take 3 out of 4 Brosnon over View.

Seriously, go re-watch it and see just how bad it really is.

We are getting a Bond movie or 2 every Saturday night down here is Aus in the lead up to Spectre. Re-watching them with a critical eye is great fun.

I missed From Russia with Love but between Goldfinger, Thunderball and You Only Live Twice I've counted 5 women that Bond has met/slept with that have been killed and he has been captured EIGHT times with only 2 of his escapes of his own doing. Now they are playing a Brosnan movie followed by a Moore film and we just had GoldenEye. It is amazingly bad.

I mean, Xenia is killing people by crushing them to death with her thighs during sex. Think about that. How fucking strong are her legs that she can break a mans ribs and strangle him to death by squeezing her thighs together?

Also one thing that keeps coming up from my wife (who hasn't seen a single Bond until now) is - These guys can afford to build Volcano rocket bases in Japan and Satellite control bunkers under lakes in Cuba... Why do they need to be doing all this 'evil' shit? I mean, the maintenance for the plumbing on Alec's base in GoldenEye must be in the millions alone. Having to constantly drain the lake into a storage tank somewhere under the island, then pump all that water back in after... That's some serious pipe work that needs to be monitored for cracks, leaks etc.

Not to mention all the money paid to build the bunker in the first place and the staffing costs for all the tech guys, guards, etc. The overheads must be incredible!

i refuse to hear any criticisms of GoldenEye. yes, it's because of the magnificent n64 game. no, that doesn't make any difference.

Brosnan played a great suave James Bond. Daniel Craig played a great action James Bond. but neither could really pull off the other aspect IMO.

Who sits through a James Bond movie criticizing every leap in logic? Why not just do something productive with your life? That kind of "realism" went out the window with Goldfinger. GoldenEye had a solid revenge plot from the flip side, as Trevelyan wanting to get back at the English government and James for, in his perverse mode of thought, screwing him and his people over was a nice new spin to the series. It had some cheese, but overall was a really good entry into the series. The conflict had a weight to it that had been missing in Bond movies since Live and Let Die. And the soundtrack is so corny/90s rad, I just love it.

Oh I've long maintained that James Bond, as far as being a spy goes, is terrible at his job. He always blows his own cover and gets captured thus resulting in putting himself in these desperate situations of his own making.

But damn it, when I want good escapism I can rely on even the worst Bond film!

There's a lot of elements to the James Bond franchise: 007 himself, M, Q, Moneypenny, the Bond girls, the Bond big bad, the Bond henchman, the Aston Martin, the Bond theme, the pre-title sequence, the title sequence and the Bond theme for the main titles.

Spectre is currently 86% fresh with 25 fresh reviews and 4 rotten reviews.

Daniel Craig James Bond Rotten Tomatoes ratings:

Casino Royale (2006) 96% fresh.

Quantum of Solace (2008) 65% fresh.

Skyfall (2012) 93% fresh.

Spectre (2015) 86% fresh as of right now.

Looking for these reminded me about the big drop in quality between Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.
