This Weather Sucks

I'm surprised 118 is a record. That's less than we've hit here in Washington. Four years ago, we hit 120. Whatever. 120, 118, it's all just stupid hot.

Hurricane Melissa is about 12 hours from crushing Jamaica.  Here's two videos that are simultaneously gorgeous and horrifying:

 

The first one is a great visual of what's called the stadium effect.  Basically winds and pressure force clouds upwards to heights above 50,000 ft (15000 m) in height.  That makes them hyper intense and unbelievably dangerous. 

The second... well, you have to remember, since they're flying anywhere from 5-20 thousand feet in the air, and those waves are clear as day cresting....  those are at least 30 - 40' (10+ m) tall.  

Jamaica's about to have a very bad night.

it has been interesting how many of the storms this year have swung away from the US... unless you're in Bermuda, if you're in Bermuda, you're probably tired of all the storms getting close to your island

One of my friends in SD said it was colder and rainy than her parents house in Chicago last weekend,

having been inside for the last month and rarely going on, wasn’t prepared for 30 F getting up for dayshift at 0430.

There's a storm *that hasn't even formed yet* which is predicted to drop either a metric fuckton of snow on NYC (10-24") or basically nothing at all (1-4")

Yeah. Its warmer tonight in the 30sF than last night 10sF but feels colder already bc of the wind. And its only 1900. Let me check back in at 0400.

Stopped at grocery store on way home from work. At least 1/3 to 1/2 full parking lot at 0640.

7"-15" predicted for the city, 10"-18" predicted in the Catskills.  

Went to a Home Depot for ice melt, they are running LOW. Luckily I got a bag.

 

The guy there said a guy tried to buy 10... 10 pallets.  Sheer madness.
