MARCH WRESTLING DISCUSSION THREAD

i keep reading about how Mistico is claiming he has the rights to the Sin Cara Gimmick. Thats cool but why the hell would he want to work as Sin Cara ever again? That would be like if Terry Taylor had the rights to be Red Rooster, Im sure he wouldnt want to work as the Red Rooster.

At first I thought you meant Mistico/Sin Cara could make more money as Red Rooster and now I want him to just adopt the gimmick, he can say he has the rights to it, he should also claim the Goon, Friar Ferguson and the ECW Zombie.

From a workrate standpoint The American Males were a perfectly adequate midcard/enhancement team.  I don't remember a ton of his stuff with Scorpio but I'd imagine it was decent as well.

Scorpio and inanimate carbon rod would have decent matches.

...The owner of the service -- Garren James -- tells TMZ, Bagwell is already the second most popular escort on the website ."

The better question is, when does Jimmy Del Ray live up to his nickname and get into the gigolo business?

Who do you think number one is?

Whoever it is better watch out as Buff is forming a clique of newer gigilos to go after the Millionaire club of veteran prostitutes that are holding the young guys down.

Cause he doesn't have the rights to the Mistico name. He'd have to make a new name or go like LA Park and change the spelling.

As someone who knows exactly piss-all about how the stock market works, I'd like someone to explain to me how the WWE's biggest show of the year looks completely skippable (except for Taker/Lesnar) and yet WWE's stocks are at $31.01 (aka the highest they've been since the initial IPO). Why can't JBL be a lurker here?

I would guess that investors are bullish on the launch of the WWEN.

Best guess would be the initial signup numbers of the Network and how many customers retained past the trial period.  Add in that the Network itself had minimal launch problems (and yes, the problems they had were minimal, WrestleMania feed dying 5 minutes in for the whole night pending) and its a good investment. The Network numbers are guaranteed income for 6 months at a clip.

Dave keeps saying it's the impending TV deal, which people think (in wwe) will double or more the current deal

In regards to Foley, the one thing that separates him from Hogan, Flair et al is that Foley's family appears to not have the issues that Hogan's and Flair's did. His kids seem to adore him, and his wife isn't going anywhere, so he seems ahead of the 8-ball in that respect.

Mick is truly an anamoly in pro wrestling in that regard.

That's a different kind of gigolo ;)

I don't know why it's surprising that Mistico would want to keep going by Sin Cara. WWE has another guy under the mask just so they can keep the character around. He may be a laughing stock here, but Sin Cara has international exposure.

Bagwell's, erm, interesting career turn was brought up on last night's @Midnight on Comedy Central. Jericho was on there the other night too... and WON! I'm guessing Hardwick is a wrestling fan.

EDIT: Watch Foley show up and fail miserably.

Man Foley is perhaps the saddest "old dude" going. Flair looks like death and has fucked up his life. Hogan has pissed all over my memories of him. But Foley is like the cool crazy uncle you grew up with and you'd see him like twice a year and just want to hang out with him forever. Then when you're older he buys you beer and tells you cool stories and gives you dirty magazines and he's just the dude that you hang out with at parties and shit.

Then you're 24 and you realise he's no further along in life than when he was 18 and he's just doddering about trying to be cool and funny and you always go to his place to meet up with him because your girlfriend hates him. Then you're 30 and he's never met your kids because you're scared he'll walk in the room stinking of piss and cigarettes and they'll be traumatised for years.

That was fucking fantastic.

Here's some anecdotal evidence as to why the Network rules.

My brother hasn't watched the WWE in ages. He keeps abreast when something that sounds cool happens -- Summer of Punk, etc. But he got more into UFC (he used to do jiu-jitsu) and just with limited time and energy he just lost interest. But he got the Network because the price point is so ridiculously great and has spent the past few hours watching childhood hero The Great Kabuki matches on WCCW. And then he watched some current content. He heard about The YES! Movement stuff already and is getting caught up now on The Shield vs. Wyatt stuff.

He also made another really salient point: "The WWE predicts pop culture and entertainment trends better than anyone. The first antihero wasn't Tony Soprano. It was Steve Austin."

A local radio show host here in Austin got real agitated whenever his wife started pushing him to get WWE tickets for them and their son. Neither one of them know anything about wrestling, the wife is just a huge fan of 'Total Divas'.

Wrestling might not blow up into the mainstream again like in the 90's, but it's spread so much in other avenues that the casuals are coming back in, right? Haven't ratings slowly been creeping up over the last year?
