I like how it started as a total brawl and tightened up to a series of singles matches strung together by tag spots. It's crazy to think the ASSHOLE on Christian's tron (and people using 'shit' all the time) would be censored just about ten years ago. Speaking of Christian, his little frog-hop dive off the top to the outside was pretty funny. It looked like he was trying to avoid breaking a hip, haha. Poor job guy botched his way out of a squash. Cage came back having done all the anabolics and with a Hercules Hernandez/Warlord beard. Fitting. He worked more like a brick wall than a big guy doing juniors spots and movez which is how he should do it. Him and Knight almost fucked up a couple times too and saved their bacon on the fly which was nice. Ospreay still can't get his head around working different, meanwhile. Boooooo. The Finlay jacket on I think Alex Windsor was tight, so was the match. Aaaaaand that's all I got.

It seemed like Speedball was being a bit giving early on, but if Westbrook agreed to take Ultimo Weapon, it's no wonder Bailey tried to give him some shine first. Shame his rope flipping thing went wrong, though. When Kevin Knight slid into the ring to save Darby at the end, with the camera angle not showing his face and him wearing grey and black stripes, I was wondering whhy MJF was so scared of a referee. He can't catch on to it... probably because he is Will Ospreay, Professional Dummy. Which is in character, but not conducive to the story they're trying to tell.

Mike has had great heel runs in the indies and in TNA. I think the problem with turning heel in AEW is the Stone Cold Steve Austin paradox. If he did turn heel, who would boo that man? Could he effectively draw non-Xpac heel heat? That really depends on who he'd bve working with and since Kevin Knight is so ridiculously over as a baby, it might work or it could backfire spectacularly. Now that AEW is sorta settling into a faces versus tweeners space in the men's division (are there any pure heels in the AEW men's locker room other than FTR, MJF, and maybe half of the DC Family?), I think you'd be better off just having Kevin and Mike work a competitive match and then being sportsman like at the end. Turning Speedball doesn't really make sense in this stage of the game. Let Dunkzilla have a good 180 day run as the National Champ and put the belt on Speedball for a bit. 1
SturmCRF Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Not to go overboard defending Ospreay and his ability to Deathriders it up, the match as a whole was fun but very Ospreay. But I loved how at the end, when Austin slumped down so he couldn't do the Hidden Blade, Will improvised with the kick and then went into the armbar. Old Ospreay would have kept gurning in the corner and waited for Ace to get up again so he could do his special trademark move, leaving himself open to it being a ruse and a counter. New Ospreay was focused on winning, kicked a man when he was down and didn't leave an unnecessary window for a comeback. Like WalterGunther would do, or Moxley, or a couple of hundred pre 00's wrestlers who were less exciting but more logical. I already enjoy Ospreay hugely for what he is, but it would be cool to see him improve this aspect, like when the internet said he couldn't sell, so he spent a couple of years howling mournfully whenever anyone did a move on him, but eventually stopped and was just good at selling, when he wanted to be. 3

This is just a fan theory, but my take is that losing to Moxley then having continuing neck issues shook Ospreay. He realized he needed to change something. I suspect the end game will be Ospreay using what he's learned to finally get revenge on Mox. But who knows? 1
