Remember, it was opened up to basically everyone on twitter/discord/etc., some of which had an understanding of the "in-ring" part and some just did whatever. 500 people, which is a ton. They released the demographics from the survey at the start and a big majority started watching this century (only 40% started watching last century). 88.1% hadn't voted in previous GWEs. Some trends: Territory guys fell. The 2016 list was heavily influenced by the DVDVR 80s sets. If someone was pushed for heavily (like I pushed for Bock, for instance, they maybe hung on; Bock ended up 33 when a guy like Martel fell to 139 when he had been 43 before). NJPW Juniors fell. I'd say this was less stylistic and more due to NJPW being gated. But a lot of the secondary AJPW guys like Kikuchi or Fuchi fell too. Joshi did much better. Probably to do with a broader voting pool. If there had been an 80s Joshi set (there is now but there wasn't then), then I bet they would have done fine in 2016 though. The biggest winners in general were charismatic babyface aces. People were looking for aura and vibes. Dusty or Inoki rose, sure, but someone like Sid did far, far better than anyone would have imagined in 2016. Goldberg was at the top of people's lists. I think people who "made you feel" got votes. The second biggest winner were ECW/deathmatch type guys. The funniest result was 29: Omega. 28: Lawler. 27: Okada. 3 1

I remember a lot of folks thinking the pacing of guys like Liger seeming glacial compared to Toryumon, which kinda missed the point of the overall package Liger was presenting. I do like seeing the rise in appreciation of charismatic babyface aces/destroyers. It's long overdue to see the appreciation of those, especially since it's very hard to pull off those styles right without seeming forced. 4

Both guys know how to bring the drama. They tend to do it in different ways, but I'm 100% confident that they'd put together something really fun. Lawler vs. Omega might be good, but Omega likes the smell of his own farts a little bit too much for my tastes. He's absolutely capable of having a good match with Lawler, but he's also capable of doing too much when stripping things back would be the best alternative. 3

Both have distinct personalities whether they're babyface or heel that would mesh perfectly together, and both would know how to work within each other's skillset. Personally I love the thought of smug prick Okada against fiery babyface Lawler. 6

Drove through Hot Coffee MS last night heading to a Lost Art of Wrestling event. Saw Marko Stunt take on the LAW Heavyweight champion,who is 2 inches taller and 10lbs heavier than Marko. Odd a MS crowd seemed to have no clue who Marko is. 1

And it’s just a clip of classic Funk, where’s he’s flailing around like a fish out of water. I’m one of these uncultured wrestling fans I guess, because I see that clip and I’m not mesmerized, I genuinely think Funk’s “selling” is laughable (not in a good way) and if a comedy wrestler did that they’d be roasted to hell and back. Mox does this over exaggerated selling sometimes too and I fucking hate it. Come at me, ye DVDVR faithful. Give me a self indulgent Danielson match where he feigns a seizure over Terry Funk flopping around on the mat after a punch or whatever. 1
