This was exactly my thought, that TK is trying to check off all the remaining "dream matches" and threw a huge offer at Kofi and Woods. 2

Cobra Commander Posted May 2 Posted May 2 I just asked myself the question of the wrestling equivalent of Jerry Lewis and my first answer was Roddy Piper. Which doesn’t quite work since Jerry Lewis offscreen was a bit of a problem and Roddy Piper was only a problem if being asked to do jobs. I don’t think Roddy Piper has an equipment to “the day the Clown Cried” Also that comp opens a door to Ric Flair as Dean Martin. But Flair might prefer Sinatra. Just thought of that reading a post about The King of Comedy with DeNiro and Jerry Lewis 1

Cobra Commander Posted May 2 Posted May 2 watching a moment of College Softball and deciding "you know, the elbow pad that batters wear in baseball/softball would make for a solid weapon in wrestling".. unless it takes way too damn long to put on baseball body armor to make that a viable spot 1
Technico Support Posted May 2 Posted May 2 (edited) TKO knows nothing about wrestling and is going to keep lowballing established stars into leaving, playing “next man up” with Performance Center Crossfitters and NIL nobodies because hey, it’s fake and anyone can be a star, right? Kevin Wilson Posted May 2 Posted May 2 The failed New Day heel turn was definitely the nail in their coffin, word is the issue was TKO wanted them to take pay cuts and they balked. They probably were, on a spreadsheet, over-paid for being their current role but creative is who put them in that role. They were very popular and well liked before the turn, and from everything we know great backstage/well liked by everyone. But turning them heel just to do nothing with it, it was only a matter of time before someone high up thought the current output and their salary didn't line up. I think we'll see more of that, wrestlers they gave big deals to along the way to keep them and later realize they over-paid and move on. I assume its the same story with Black and Cobb. Royce Keys better hope his Aight gets over or next Spring he could be in trouble. 3

I don’t watch MMA, but apparently this is what they’ve done with UFC — just constant lowballing because, like you said, they think the brand is the draw. 2

It won't matter to the WWE Universe. Most of the folks that enthusiastically and exclusively watch their product absolutely do not care. if WWE puts them on TV, they are a star to them. 17 minutes ago, odessasteps said: Cue old nfl owner quote about cattle https://i.makeagif.com/media/1-21-2016/btrqo6.mp4 Edited May 2 by SovietShooter 2

Niners Fan in CT Posted May 2 Posted May 2 TKO does not believe in loyalty. The McMahon family for all of their faults always did at least to a degree, especially Vince Sr. 2
Cobra Commander Posted May 2 Posted May 2 feels like there are some parallels between some of the perceptions of WWE/TKO and how fans so mad at various teams that they chant "Sell the Team" because the Red Sox or whomever are losing games

South Park parodied this exact mindset 15 years ago. the boys start their own wrestling promotion but it's just soap opera stuff. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W.T.F._(South_Park) 1 1

Yeah , that should have been one of the biggest angles in a long long time. The only way to screw that one up is you don't want it to work. You can tell even after the split Xavier was dressing crazier and crazier just to stand out. I know the reason for then not resigning was money related but these guys read the room and knew they weren't Triple H guys. Although I expected them to be lifers, ive been wanting Xavier to go to AEW for years. He's good friends with Omega anyways so I'm sure thats all he needs to get he and Kofi a better deal with AEW. Once WWE went all the way with the Bloodline, they pretty much devalued New Day by the time the Usos passed their record for the longest reigning tag team champions. Before that point WWE pretty much cemented New Day as the greatest tag team in WWE in history. Im not arguing Whether or not they are the best team but Im just pointing out how they went from the best tag team in modern history in WWE cannon to almost just another team. I remember after Woods won the KotR, he made it such a big deal. Then he had that title match vs Roman and he lost then after the match Roman mocked him by wearing the crown basically killing all the value Woods tried to bring back to KotR. I remember back then thinking Woods should leave WWE. Woods and Kofi vs the Bucks is 10 years too late but it still would be dope to see and I think it would actually draw still. They can go against Christian and Cope and that would be interesting too. I really want Woods and Omega, Heck even Kofi vs Omega would be fun. Ive been wanting to see those guys outside of WWE without a net in another major company. I think both guys would step up their workrate because the AEW audience see they as all gimmick 3
odessasteps Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I wonder who gets to break all the new days records once they leave the company. I presume the USOs, since they are prob lifers, 2
Web Conn Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I was at the heel turn show. Pure magic they were the most hated act in WWE after they turned on E. Then the E turned on them. 2

The sad thing is I think WWE is just that incompetent opposed to not wanting it to work. You saw that type of shit with Vince all the time. People really need to remember this, the reason the Bloodline story did so well is mostly because HHH, Vince, and the rest of creative stayed the fuck out of Heyman and Roman's way. They let those guys take the lead and work out how most of it would progress alongside others directly involved in the story. 1

I think both guys would step up their workrate because the AEW audience see they as all gimmick Apologies for taking your paragraph and just singling out two sentences, I know that's a bit rude. But for these two points I don't know if I necessarily agree. New Day is a great act, I think they are popular enough and would get a big pop if they showed up in AEW. But the rumor was they were on 'seven figure deals' in WWE (hence the request to take a pay cut) which is a lot of money to pay a team that is in the twilight of their careers and to your second point, I don't think Xavier and Kofi are necessarily great in-ring wrestlers. They are 39 and 44 respectively and Xavier was never really a high-end wrestler (very good but never a work rate machine). Kofi was/maybe still can step up when he needs to but the last few New Day matches I watched both just didn't seem to have the same step they used to have. Which is understandable but I don't know if they can step up their work rate at this point in their careers but so much. Its not that I don't think they'd be a good fit in AEW but I think it would have more limited appeal than some may be thinking, I think their best bet would be to go back to the New Day of old and focus on their personalities/promo work which is top notch, and have a few dream matches with Young Bucks, Omega, etc. but not necessarily be in the title picture or wrestling weekly on Dynamite. I think they'd have value for sure and could get some eyeballs on AEW which is the goal, but just that expectations should be realistic in regards to where their value is, which to me would be in their popularity, reach, and dream match potential more so than their in-ring ability or having long title feuds. 3

Honestly, both guys have kept up physically and continued to add to their games over the years. They are in that rare & weird category of continuing to improve even this late in. You aren't seeing great matches out of them more because WWE wasn't looking for that from them. They absolutely can step up or at least Kofi can. Not as sure about Woods given the injuries he has had the past few years. 4 hours ago, Kevin Wilson said: Its not that I don't think they'd be a good fit in AEW but I think it would have more limited appeal than some may be thinking, I think their best bet would be to go back to the New Day of old and focus on their personalities/promo work which is top notch, and have a few dream matches with Young Bucks, Omega, etc. but not necessarily be in the title picture or wrestling weekly on Dynamite. While I do think they would do alright I actually still agree that their biggest appeal is their personalities and dream match potential. I think that is true of most acts going on 40 or older with 20+ years on them. Edited May 3 by Eivion 1
