🎼 Feel like I'm made out of gingerbread... Uh huh, uh huh...

No way to sugar coat it... last week wasn't great for the WWE.  A lot of people lost their jobs.  You could say though, it was fatal for others...

🧑‍🎤 Crumb pickin' lip lickin' gingerbread... Uh huh, uh huh... Can't think about rainy weather now

Meanwhile, we are also getting the birth of a new superstar...

(That said... it's Trick's own fault that he didn't immediately recognize Sami and his stupid little dance.)

🍪 I've finally got myself together now... Fresh out of the pan sweet gingerbread man! Fresh out of the pan sweet gingerbread man!

On tap for this week!

Will YOU believe in Joe Hendry?  I am ... agnostic about it. We shall see...

(Yes this is the song from Hawkeye. This video is how I originally came to this song.)

Enjoy the week!

I'm sure a bunch of stuff happened on the show but once I saw the tongan deathgrip that overwrote everything else. I need Jacob Fatu going full Meng and laying out like a dozen random people with it.

The Seth/Bron segment was actually pretty solid with some decent trash talk and points coming from both. Thought Bron came out the stronger of the two by the end.

Penta/Rusev was solid. The post match fuckery with Ethan & Je'Von was expected and fine.

Becky's promo started off ok but ended much better with the open challenge and shit talking to Io. Their impromptu match was good even with the Asuka interference at the end. Asuka/Io is finally official for Backlash. It was interesting since this was the biggest reaction this story has gotten without Rhea involvement. WeWantKairi even had a short lived chant after Asuka's attack.

The Hendry concert was nothing special, but still an ok debut for Joe and another showcase for the Street Profits who came to help him out against Logan & Theory.

Rey/EGA II was fun while it lasted. Was interesting with the earlier challenge vid EGA II sent out which was fairly respectful, Rey taking no sides in the feud and pushing both Americanos to just be respectful to Luche Libre, and seeing EGA even have some resistance to using the the metal piece for a loaded mask. This felt like the best build this feud has gotten on US tv.

Oba/Waller was a quick squash. Oba throwing out an open challenge series was unexpected, but I suppose its a decent way to by time till he challenges Roman at Survivor Series and maybe build future challengers for him.

Bayley/Lyra vs. Raquel/Roxanne was good fun with the hometown crowd super hot for Roxanne.

Dug the final segment with Roman & Jacob. Jacob using the Tongan Death Grip was awesome and Roman sold it so well.

Tonight was kind of a good show. Solid-good wrestling and pretty solid storytelling building towards Backlash and other feuds for beyond it. The Laredo crowd being game for most everything helped out quite a bit as well.

Seems like having two different people throw out open challenges in the same show is a sign of creative desperation.   Maybe that is there new title strategy to put more people on the show

Also people are making it seem like Fatu turned heel by attacking Roman.  I guess that depends on whether you think if Roman was a face to begin with.  Roman is definitely a tweener.  Jey Uso is becoming more and more heelish every week.

EGA 2 finally going tweener on American TV with EGA 1 also going a little heelish during the Rey promo was good.  You can't just spring the double turn that's going to be required when "Chad Gable" shows up again in June.

Read a few reports that said the arena air-conditioning failed most of the night. If that was the reason Roman was drenched after the Tongan it made for a great visual.

Thanks for this explanation. I totally missed Roman sweating, but was completely dumbfounded when I noticed Oba was sweating. It was weird to see him have so much sweat after a short squash when he was fine working 10-20 minute matches in NXT.

Absolutely fuckin' not, I am putting my foot down over Lexis King being called the Fastest Man Alive. Especially when Frazer wore Flash-themed gear for so long.

Lizzy Rain feels more like a metalhead character from a shitty 80s movie than any person who has existed at any point in human history, and her theme isn't even pop metal.

So i only started watching Evolve when Starboy debuted, but I thought Tristan Angels only debuted a week or two before that? Had he been around longer?

Okay, Shiloh's not the Bull Shannon of NXT, he's something weirder. But..he designed a Saints simulator? And it's alive? Probably from the same movie as Lizzy.

Dug Borne/Shugars

Not sure I'll dig Heights as a solo heel, but we'll see.

Glad Legacy is back.

Sinclair/Jordan had more limb work than an average whole month of NXT.

Will the Orlando perverts get tired of EVIL shenanigans, or will they continue to love basically everyone who isn't Josh Briggs?

Don't have a way to watch SD currently, so I'm gonna miss Ricky (who has a lot of history here) but at least he and Shiloh had a decent match on his way out.

Took a gummy tonight and legit thought Lizzy Rain was Marty Jannetty.

That gimmick is straight out of David McLane's closet.

Myles/Shugars was solid. Shugars isn't quite there yet, but I do like how he tries to be unique in his style from a movement/bumping perspective. Feels like he has the most potential of DarkState though it also feels like he probably needs another year tagging to fully being comfortable within his style. Matches like this serve as a nice test for him to see how far along he is. The post match attack by news guys was not bad though not knowing them makes it hard to care yet.

Tony's segment was nothing more than a debut for various guys. EVIL was a nice surprise that should have been obvious in hindsight. Honestly, considering the attack by the heavy flyer and Tavion afterwards it feels like it was a mistake for EVIL to debut here. Should have given him bigger build and probably larger venue. Curious to see what his name will end up.

Connors/Stacks vs. Prosper/Legacy was good fun with all involved getting in a nice showcase.

Was pleased to see Lola get one over on the Culling via Mr. Iguana. I think Iguana may have gotten the biggest pop tonight when he showed up.

Lizzy/Lyons was a good debut for Rain. She got in a pretty decent showcase with the crowd getting behind her. Rain stands out well looks & attitude wise though I'm still not sure how I feel about her gimmick as whole. Still, every time I see her I think Tim Curry or 80's Rock which is not a bad thing for me. Lyons herself is worlds better than she was just a year or two back so its good to see her getting the spot in a debut match like this. Still, it feels like they are more or les done with her since she never sticks around as a character afterward.

Kelani/Wren was far more limb focused than expected and good overall. I only wish Wren fed Kelani a little less for the high flying moves. Doesn't hurt for Kelani to move Wren into position herself at times like this when Kelani is in control anyways.

Shiloh/Saints was decent though it still feels like Shiloh is a ways off from being ready for matches like this. I like his character, but they should probably slow down a bit if he doesn't start to show faster growth in the next couple of months.

Didn't think this was an especially good episode of NXT as the focus was more on introducing a ton of new faces and switching up some older ones. Still, the wrestling was solid, and the stage is set for essentially the next era of NXT. Now to see who can step up and/or grow fast.

I was about to mention Lizzy Rain being Clive Burr's niece but then I was distracted by the Wikipedia chart of Iron Maiden band members showing like 13 different dudes cycling through the band in the first 4 years. There's probably a narrative here that I'm not particularly interested in seeking out about that level of instability in a group

But going off just photos of Lizzy Rain... she also has a bit of a Dr. Frank-N-Furter look in the hair/face. I could think of some promotions where a Rocky Horror gimmick would work with their fanbase. Although I don't know if "obsession with RHPS" has really carried through the generations. (Although the NXT Orlando crowd would be very likely to embrace that concept)

"The Iron Maiden" would make for a solid nickname for a wrestler provided no attorneys got involved in the process

EDIT: just remembered leaving a Weird Al concert a few years ago where "Time Warp" was playing as the audience exited, and guess what, Weird Al crowds and RHPS crowds overlap a bit.

I hope she gets wheeled out inside an Iron Maiden, like Sabu’s  Hannibal Lechter entrance.

I'm starting to hate Shiloh Hill.  I can't stand the inane goofiness of his character and I will state again that the tooth removal power up gimmick is stupid and worse than Hogan hulking up.

Love EVIL. Hate his entrance music.

WWE had one job. Find that man some metal to walk out to and somehow they fucked that up.

The problem with giving EVIL some quality metal music is that you just introduced a wrestler whose gimmick is that she is heavy metal on the same show.

If it wasn't for the women's division I would say that NXT should just change to NXT 3.0 and show a new color scheme.   I haven't heard of any of these new talents except EVIL.

That finish was straight out of the 2000's ROH flippy indie dude mid-card but in the best worst way. If you can believe in the physics of the Irish Whip, you can believe in the physics of suicide by self-assisted enzuigiri. It is no more convoluted than Sol Ruca's finisher. I am sure Cornette will hate the shit out of it.

I kept thinking to myself, Well. At least it's not another fucking Cutter.

If they're going to change EVIL's name, might as well keep it consistent and call him WARU.

All I know is we're about 3 years from Liv Morgan ripping her own head off to sell this as Lizzy wins her first world championship

Does Vegas have a line on how soon before WWE has him spitting mist?

Also can it be considered a win that Lizzy Rain didn't have a "Megadeath" patch on her jacket?

Thank you, David McLane was the reference I was reaching for but couldn't quite get words for when I wrote that.

Change his name to GOOD. In the true WWE Style

Dave is reporting that EVIL specifically requested to be put in NXT to begin with.
