I'm waiting for someone to counter with "yeah you got a wife and kids that's great, we do too, you ain't special." Also we don't hold up Stan Hansen as some paragon of virtue and he told us 30 years ago he's got a Big Fat wife and Nine kids at home. 1 4
Craig H Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Only one thing mattered to me on this show. The Death Riders, Moxley in particular, are indeed going to take a Will Ospreay made out of cookie dough and turn him into something chiseled out of stone. Why? I’m not sure. I’m hoping we get an explanation for that. For now I’m going with the thought that the CC did change Moxley and he sees something in Ospreay that he wasn’t able to see in Hangman because he hadn’t gone through the CC yet. Maybe he sees someone worthy of rehabilitating to give him more competition at the top because this nearly 2 year journey for Moxley has seemingly been about creating actual challenges for himself by hardening the AEW roster. Maybe he thinks he can corrupt Will so when Will wins the world title then he can break Will, or uh, break Will’s will. Either way, lots of interesting directions this can go in from how Kenny will react to this after how Will consoled Kenny after Dynasty, to how Hangman might react, etc. El Clon rules. Perry is fine. Honestly, I preferred Perry more as a heel. This is easily his most boring run because he has no character. At least as the Scapegoat he was pissed off and rebellious. 1

It’ll either get me over or get me fired, we’ll see. Both your boss and the opponent of one of these "I'm a dad" wrestlers could retort with "Well, I can help you spend a lot more time with them..." and it would make the same amount of sense. Just in slightly different ways. 2

So either he was lying, or he's got at least 11 kids. Wrestlers lie!? Wiki has him with 4 kids, two with his first wife and two with Yumi. The AWA promo we all think of was from 1985 so presumably Yumi was the wife at the time and the first kid with Yumi was born in 87 so he was really laying it on. He should have taken the Karl Anderson route and spoke about his "hot Japanese wife" and alimony to his ex or something.
Go2Sleep Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I fully support Jon Moxley personally training Will Ospreay to end the constant neck injury trope. 3

I'm just really happy that it was an angle all along and not just "this guy has a weakness now and we're booking him like a chump."
Curt McGirt Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Finally getting around to these Dynamite: Lio is so weird. Of course his decimation was glorious. Brody/Darby is gonna be ridiculous. Mina/Shida was a bit odd, it was almost like twin sisters wrestling each other, they were sloppy in the same ways and doing some mirror stuff. Of course that doesn't make either of them look any better, but strangely not any worse either. Ospreay didn't bother me as much this time around. It felt like he was selling more and doing less of the Kobashi pop-up no-sell, huge moves despite injury stuff. There was a dive or two but not with a back landing and he was focused on using the Hidden Blade instead of something more athletic, so to speak. Beyond that, Davis is a MONSTER. That chop-into-lariat with Will on the ropes was insane. The ref stoppage was just fine; I dunno where the Riders stuff is headed. It did make me laugh that they're dragging Ospreay out by his arms and then Claudio finally says "fuck this why are we bothering" and just heaves him up in a fireman's carry to the back as they should have been doing the whole time, haha. What to say about the main? It was fantastic. The catapult into the ring undercarriage. The stage dive into the timekeeper's table. Ciampa slinging blood into the camera lens. The bounce off the buckle into the double-stomp. And above all the Psycho Driller off the top to the fucking floor, how could they possibly decide to do that? Take all of these spots away and just leave the struggle over the Scorpion at the end and you have a great match, put it all together and you have a GREAT match. Kudos. 2
JLowe Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Definitely felt like Ciampa was/is raring to do some of the things he hasn’t been able to do for years while in Connecticut and remind people of what he used to be. That match was fantastic, because you had Darby who is basically willing to do any stupid bump to get a match over, and Ciampa who was more than willing to not just assist him with his death wish but also take some stupid bumps of his own. And it was different than your usual “Darby pinball” match because they’re relatively similar in size (granted Ciampa is much more muscular and built) so you could have more even wrestling. I still hate Ciampa’s “knee brace down” knee strike finisher, partly because it was also Adam Cole’s finisher, partly because there are too many knee strike finishers, and partly because there are too many “take my protective gear off” finishers (I am going to exclude Ospreay because I’m a hypocrite). Not a fan of Lio the gollum but it worked pretty well in a match with someone like Brody. I like @Curt McGirttake on Mina-Shida. I expected a little more because Mina usually does better when she can be more stiff. Womens tag was excellent, they need to be doing more with Skye as a wrestler (and violent little thing). Bringing back the mist was interesting. 4

I'm done with the "taking my shit down/off" trope too, but thankfully I remember nothing about Adam Cole except my distaste. I like Ciampa's because his weeny little leg looks like somebody taking something off that makes it look larger and more dangerous, to instead something that looks almost pathetic -- but then you look at the leg and realize "if that thing is swung at me it'll be like one of those little aluminum baseball bats coming at my head". Ospreay gets a pass because he's yeah 1
Technico Support Posted April 29 Posted April 29 (edited) Why wear knee pads if hitting someone with your bare knee is so dangerous? We’ve seen kneelifts hit in minute one of matches…just skip the knee pads and hit that shit immediately! I liked Ron Garvin back in the day but his finisher was a punch and that was stupid…why wait a whole match to do it like it had to be “set up” when every match on the show has dudes hitting fisticuffs from the get go? What I am saying is wrestling has its own peculiar internal logic and this shit breaks it. Edited April 29 by Technico Support 1 1
Technico Support Posted April 29 Posted April 29 PS I’m sad there’s no thread for tomorrow’s show yet, because I’m going to the show. Suggestions: Oh my god that’s the funky Shida King of Pain Rhythm of the Knight (Corona or Debarge) Lena Kross will make ya jump jump 2
SovietShooter Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Speaking of knee lifts and Ronnie Garvin... Someone should bring back the Mr Wrestling 2 knee lift as a finisher. And set it up with a Garvin Stomp. 1 1 1

Curt McGirt Posted April 29 Posted April 29 (edited) Re: Ciampa's knee... The best excuse I can think of is that, you're told by management to wear protection in order to protect your opponent, perhaps? It is all very wrestling-specific internal logic. Probably the very best example of that when you think about it. Maybe you just gotta go with it? It doesn't bother me like it does y'all I guess. Anyway, I'm watching Collision. - The six-man was fun. It strikes me that the Michinoku Pro six-man formula is still a resounding influence in wrestling today, especially where comedy is concerned. Hell, you can probably take everything they did back then and apply bits of it to AEW and other places still. - RUSH/Adam Priest was THE JAM. Priest clearly went up to him backstage and said "we just do you. Beat each other up, you win." And it came out perfect. I was expecting Adam to slap him in the first couple minutes but he had enough decorum to not poke the bull (heh) further than necessary. I would personally love for Brody to do a Garvin Stomp to Max with a "HOO" for each one EDIT: I really liked the Sisters vs. Persephone/Windsor match, that was fun. They've got a good six-person tag in them, probably a really good bloody brawl. The other two matches... Jericho and Ricochet put the cork in the last one and the two participants of the others made that one DOA. Just not interested in watching uninteresting wrestling even if I feel obligated anymore. I chalk it up like this: you wear them because they do offer you support/protection, but since you are going for a kill shot to end the match the potential payoff is worth the short term risk. TBF it'd be better if someone did this, missed, jammed their knee shortly after and got caught in a leg sub if only to establish the stakes a bit better. 6 1
