Curt McGirt Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I missed the first 20 so I'll just go down the list of what was watched: 1. Rush/Bowens was surprisingly even. Rush must really like Bowens, or else Tony threatened him or something. It was alright. Bowens really shouldn't have said "I'm taking number two", dude you know what that sounds like you are saying. He sure can slap his leg really hard, too. 2. Was out of the room when the goddamn Hurt Syndicate match started but I caught the end. Shelton and Bobby being two guys in their 40s-50s who look like they're in their 20s and kick your ass like they're in their late teens is always gonna rule. 3. Bucks/Hechicero-Clon was ehhhh. Hechicero and Clon still got to do some cool stuff, Clon busted out that weird thing where you basically figure four somebody's legs and bend them into a figure 'C' through the ropes (I think Tromatagon identified this for us some time ago) and on the bad side Clon no-sold a DDT because he's Clon and thus a robot or something. Maybe he's AI. Kill him with fire if so. Rest of this was a Bucks match. 4. Okada vs. Myron Reed? Did Delirious book this show as a moonlighting gig because he happened to be in Canada? I couldn't be bothered. 5. Brawling Birds/Shafir and Thekla was exactly what you thought it was gonna be. Mean. It took them ten minutes or so to even get in the ring and they just kept picking at each other. Chippy, rude, borderline unprofessional; it was either this or the table-breaking match from Wednesday that wins the taping. Probably this one. I don't want to ever be hit by any of these women. Overall not a great night but that main was something else. It'd be a fun one for a comp if you're doing one for the year. 2
The Green Meanie Posted April 12 Posted April 12 (edited) Also, kudos to the two fellow Houstonians for getting a title shot! Their act of selflessness has really paid off, possibly the most ever in the history of wrestling. Edited April 12 by The Green Meanie 2

I get people don't like the Bucks, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I don't get how someone that enjoys pro wrestling could watch that match and think it was "ehh". it didn't even follow many of the Buck's typical tropes, but still had a lot of their signature spots. And Hechicero/Clon busted out some real cool double teams and submissions. 1
Curt McGirt Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I might like it better on second watch (which I'm not gonna give it probably)

I was thinking similarily, but r u talking about Bowens or Rush on that last line? Rush should always do that corner stop/leg slap/kick move to the opposite corner. The sleight of hand works in that direction. Most weeks he has the most blatant leg slap on TV. It doesn't seem like a popular opinion, but I have to admit - I can generally get down with the leg slap sound effect. The AEW guys all do it well enough that I don't see it - other than the aforementioned. I have seen less exprienced workers slap their leg, and it was hard to ignore. But yeah, completely with you on 'I'm taking number two' and Rush's handling of Bowens. I like to think it's respect and friendship. Really tho, Bowens should always wrestle like he's in there with Rush. I liked that match, and I liked Rush getting the strong win. I'm also all for strapping up a healthy Rush. Seems like the fans want it. Edited April 12 by HarryArchieGus
Curt McGirt Posted April 12 Posted April 12 No, I meant Bowens, who just nuked his leg twice in particular during that match. But yeah Rush is pretty egregious. I'm not much of a fan, but that's just because people do it when it shouldn't be done -- a kick should land with a thud, not a crack, for example. As long as you're still stiff like Rush then I can tolerate it.
tbarrie Posted April 12 Posted April 12 You know, I've been watching wrestling for about forty years and I don't think I've ever consciously noticed a performer slapping their thigh while throwing a kick. Seems like the sort of thing you only notice if you're looking for it - though I expect once you do spot it, you can't stop seeing it. Since the people who notice it happening generally seem to dislike it, I'm disinclined to start looking for it. 1
Curt McGirt Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Mostly I don't see it, actually. It's when you catch it that it pisses you off. But once again, more than anything I hate when it's used when it makes no sense for that sound to be made. The practice itself doesn't bother me, that does. 1
username Posted April 13 Posted April 13 Sheamus wrestles his matches with a hand print permanently etched into his upper thigh, if you want someone to start with. (Sheamus is pretty fun regardless)
