tbarrie Posted April 4 Posted April 4 I noticed London Lightning was a lot less over in Winnipeg on Thursday then he was on a previous show in London. Odd. 1

Winnipeg is a long way from Ontario. That's like expecting say, Amanda Kiss to get a big reception in Denver instead of Greensboro. (she's my pick for indie talent AEW should sign next- she's good in ring already judging from a couple matches I saw, and has solid character work and unique aesthetic already)

I'd have to consult a map to have more than the vaguest sense of where Denver and Greensboro are, but Winnipeg is only a couple of hundred kilometres from Ontario. Of course, it's about tenfold that distance from London, Ontario. Ontario is pretty big. And my comment was intended as 40% deadpan humour, 60% straight line for others to riff on. I wasn't actually surprised that "London Lightning" was less popular outside of London.:)

I’m sure it’s a cultural thing with important significance and meaning , but goddamn, non-Lucha crowds are decidedly not vibing with Mistico’s slow jam. It’s like a badass superhero entering the ring to “Never Too Much” by Luther Vandross. American wrestling fans are some of the last holdouts for the shittiest nu-metal/00s “emo”/hard rock and can barely relate to anything that isn’t that that or a familiar song from the radio. Ciampa’s entrance music being exhibit 1. At least “Judas” is semi-ironic hair metal/butt rock. 2

I was thinking the exact same thing re: this generation was raised on butt rock; they’re not gonna get into a Mexican ballad. Ciampa’s theme rips off Lovin Every Minute of It by Loverboy a little too much for my taste. Woah oh woah oh 1

We were too busy cheering for Mo. Winnipeg loves Mo Jabari. We don't know London at all. One weird thing is that every time AEW comes to Winnipeg, they never use Winnipeg wrestlers for jobber spots. Chad Daniels, Anderson Tyson Moore, and AJ Sanchez, just to name a few, would make for some fun squash matches 2

Shartnado Posted April 5 Posted April 5 (edited) Well, it seems like at least part of Jericho's time away was spent on getting back into shape. Prickochet seems to have gotten back into crazy shape, too! Not that he's not been in very good shape all this time, but during his more character driven heel stuff it seemed as if he wasn't quite as cut as he previously was. Now he's as ripped as ever. Didn't save him from the One Winged Angel, though! PAC vs Ospreay 2 was way different than the All Out match. But hey, there was more selling. Ospreay was in deep shit after the match and nobody came to his aid. If he doesn't come through at the PPV, this will look pretty bad. If he does, then I guess it's fine? Darby vs reluctant Andrade at the PPV might be another "worth the price of the PPV by itself" match, but for some reason this PPV was 6e more expensive to begin with, so that may be a tall order? Kenny is pretty damn bad on the mic and on commentary. I was kinda under the impression that he was supposed to be some kind of all around performer, but it seems pretty clear that that only includes the bell to bell part of the job. Main event was excellent and the women's trios match was ok, too! Edited April 6 by Shartnado more 1
John E. Dynamite Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Why don't Caster and Bowens stooge for MJF as an affiliated tag team? Where they wake up long MJF promos and give him somebody to play off of? They could lose to the inevitable E&C championship reign and help MJF retain against Copeland or something. Hook isn't a factor anymore and shouldn't be. 4
Shartnado Posted April 6 Posted April 6 (edited) Decent effort by Bowens against Mox, but has there been a championship-level, very over tag team, that have been less than the sum of their parts (divided by two) than the former members of The Acclaimed? I mean even Bully Ray eventually had a decent singles run! To be honest, there probably is, but this is still quite a drop for both guys. Who the hell is going to challenge Diva Domination for the tag belts next, since it won't be the Birds yet? Willow was basically oblivious to the fact that she was seconds away from getting clobbered from behind by Shida! Someone else won't be so lucky, soon enough, I'm afraid. Grabbing the chair off Christian Cage's hands must have been the most courageous thing I have ever seen Stokley do, so far. And don't give me that "he learned to walk again"-bullshit, I'm pretty sure he was able to walk this whole time! Cage almost attacking Renee with the chair on Dynamite for "being in their way (ever so slightly)" was funny, him attacking that poor security guy with the con-chair-to, not so much. Ciampa vs Juice was decent enough match but Tommaso could probably use a real feud at this point. I guess that would be Mark Briscoe, right? How badly is Fletcher hurt? Speaking of Hurt, The Syndicate is back and the other guy from Private Party is back being hurt. Good stuff by The Rascalz and DCF, as one would expect. The look of abject horror and disgust on the ref's face when Andrade kissed her hand after the hand raise was, if not priceless, still worth a pretty penny! Darby coming to terms with Brody but Jack Perry having hard time getting over being set on fire was funny but totally logical. Ok, main event still to come. Quite the pyrotechnics for OC, there! Yuta can totally pull off the buzzcut. Unfortunately for the luchador in question, he will be known as Misticock from now on, to me! He can thank @Technico Support by proxy, for that one! The match itself was a bit messy with the tornado rules, but plenty of action, for sure. Edited April 6 by Shartnado Your lips to yourself, Andrade! 1 1

JLowe Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Posts going around from news sites on Bluesky that Fletcher tore a meniscus and he’ll be out for a few months with that and other injuries. Time to strap up Brody King, although I’m sure Jericho is already lobbying for it. 2

Marcel Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Hopefully Fletcher's injury isn't too bad and he makes a full recovery soon. That said...this is an opportunity to make someone or get a made guy some well-deserved shine. I'd love to see them block out an upcoming live Collision for a one-night tournament for the TNT title. 8 people, take your pick for a winner. Brody King? Andrade? Get Mascara Dorada the right opponents and let him bring the house down. I'd love to see Lee Moriarty elevated to the AEW full-time roster. 4
