Went to the taping. Had a great time, but 5 hours is way too long to sit in arena seats, my joints were rocks by the time the taping finished at 11:15.

Some notes:

Haven't watched the show, but I can tell you that the crowd was molten for Jericho. Non-stop cheering for the entire time he was out there.

The crowd was pretty hyped for everything.

They shot a couple ROH matches beforehand: Evil Uno v Vaughn Vertigo and Hyan/Maya World v The Inspiration. Amusingly Uno and Vaughn were both opponents in a scramble match the night before at WPW's show.

Loved seeing a lot of WPW regulars: Vertigo on Dynamite. Mo Jabari, Ava Lawless, and Kristara on Collision. Sammy Peppers, Chad Daniels, and Levi Night have security duties.

They shot Collision all out of order, so it will be interesting to see if its the crowd changes size between each match. Part of the crowd would leave after each taping, there was probably about 40% of the crowd left by the time the last match was taped (Mistico/Knight/Orange/Roddy v Deathriders/Dogs). It was fucking late, but those that stayed to the end were the sickos and were super into it all. The Moxley/Bowens match with the Ospreay bit was taped 4 or 5 matches into Collision and the biggest chunk left at that point, it really seemed like the end of the night, but then the matches kept coming.

I saw fucking Mistico live, dudes!

Even the ToM v Mina/Birds match started pretty dead, but got a This is Awesome chant.

Was Don Callis coming out to insult Winnipeg aired or was that a commercial spot?

Favourite funny bits were Thekla dancing to Mina's entrance music, while having Aubrey take off her title and Ricochet covering the ears of a bald security guard while the crowd chanted bald at him.

Biggest pops: Jericho, Omega, Bailey, Brody

didn't see Dynamite (due to the Royals) but did watch Collision (20 minutes into the show once I realized it was on tonight). So that was some perfectly fun wrestling in front of a crowd that appeared to be technically awake

Glad to see Shida back even if it was just to lose right away, kinda wish she went through with the teased kendo stick attack afterwards. Want to be excited for Queen Aminata returning next week but a shame if she'll just be facing the same fate.

Entertaining show but somehow the only thing that stuck with me was the security guys coming into the ring and, seemingly forgetting they were playing security guards, started throwing worked punches at Edge and Christian and it was so hilariously lame and simultaneously just wrong that it really cracked me up. Even one of the announcers kinda chuckled and pointed out they were attacking them instead of, whatever it is that wrestling security guards do.

Shida just isn't a fulltime wrestler anymore.  She's primarily a streamer who just happens to be a damn great wrestler.

I'm hoping Lee Moriarty is a new member of the Syndicate, he's so ready for a major push, and his style would fit like a glove- and it would be nice if they showed MVP/Shelton/Lashley mentoring him how to be more vicious as a way of pushing him.- perhaps clips of Moriarty being trained up in BJJ and Amateur.

How about Kyle O’Reilly?

We’re never getting past “New Nation of Domination” levels of discourse, are we?

Nothing personal against you, I see this everywhere.  Any time two black guys team up, everyone just headcanons them as The Black Stable and speculates about new black members.  It reduces non-white to a gimmick, a part of wrestling’s gross history we should be past by now.  Nevermind the Islander and Latino factions in regressive-ass WWE.  They’ll always be that way.

It goes both ways, too.  I’m sure Hobbs has gotten nowhere because “we already have Oba Femi!”  And wrestling conventional wisdom is you don’t have two of the same “gimmick” on the same show.

I've been a long time believer in Josh Woods and he should step up and join the Hurt Business.

Also concerning Lee, he's part of Shane Taylor Promotions already.

I know you said it was nothing personal against Jenalysis, but I want to emphasize that naming one person who happens to be black isn't much data to draw a conclusion from. Had she listed three or four people, all of whom were black, then one could more reasonably conclude she had fallen into this fallacy.

But I certainly agree that this tendency exists. It's particularly odd to apply it to the Hurt Syndicate, since they did a whole angle not too long ago where MJF joined them. MJF is pretty white.

And to segue into new discussion - the closest thing that angle had to a payoff was MVP informing MJF that if he (MJF) did win the world title, Bobby Lashley would come looking for him. So should we assume Lashley is joining the mob of people gunning for MJF and his title? Or do we figure the bookers have forgotten about that?

I don't think they've forgotten about it, not yet anyway. The hunt for a new member might lead to Shelton teaming with them while Bobby joins the fray of the title hunt.

"Are Jewish people White, or are they a Minority?" is a debate that doesn't belong in a no-Politics forum.

The angle for Mox vs Bowens was "Bowens wants to prove himself to Hook, so he challenged Moxley to prove he's a killer", but then the post-match was all Ospreay doing the "Just because you're a Face now, I don't forgive you for what you did as a heel" stuff, and Bowens just teleported off screen like he was an irrelevance.

But there was a nice contrast with the Brody/ Darby/ Perry backstage promo, where they said "We're all faces now, so let's forgive each other for the things we did when some of us were heels".

Excalibur pointed out that Juice Robinson was cosplaying Tenryu, whilst I noticed that Juice's trunks appeared to be made from Velvet (or some other furry fabric), which isn't very Tenryu-esque. Tomasso Ciampa is one of those guys who has the thing that WWE loving AEW haters think all AEW wrestlers have; The ability to have a solid to good match, but without the ability to make people care about it. Which is a bit striking, considering he was in WWE for so long, and most of it in their 'developmental' system. You would think that would be the one thing they would have taught him.

Props to Shida for finding the one obsessive Shida mark in the building and doing ringside brawling spots right in front of her. Really makes you look a big star, when there's a fan on camera marking out for you specifically. Hopefully she sticks around a bit now; It does seem like AEW's Joshi talent (except Mina) gets a handful of bookings a year (if that), and  then disappears for months. I for one would love more Riho and Yuka Sakazaki on telly.

It was very noticeable in the main event, that the house lights were off in the majority of the building. Anyone who started Dynamite sitting in the top tier and stayed for the whole thing probably ended up ringside by the end of the show.

So why did you bring it up?

(Also, for the record, why is the assumption that all Jewish people have white skin? Shais Rishon would be startled to learn this.)

I'd argue MVP's faction is different - I was going more on the angle of technical, intellectual, no-nonsense business-minded killers.

That's Lee Moriarty , who also should be a Dynamite regular at this point, he's too good and too young to be where he is in AEW right now, but they gotta pull the trigger on him soon and start moving him up or he won't.  I specifically see a lot of MVP in Moriarty intellectually given how Moriarty conducts himself on interviews and his art career.

Yes, he's part of STP, but lets face it, STP isn't getting out of ROH, despite most of them being good (except Ogogo).  Good dudes, but they're at their ceiling right now.

I can't really think of anyone young who fits the vibe better.  KOR is older, goofy, and wouldn't benefit from it.

Josh Woods is a solid pick, and I've been high on him for years , but Moriarty brings a lot more to the table.  Also in kayfabe Josh Woods is a bit of a meathead and not really a good fit in that sense.

If I was to add a woman, Tay Melo  fits that vibe.  Even Shida could given her background and interests.

'Live audio' mic'ing has long been in need of addressing. Somebody creative could help this show's aural presentation exponentially. Speaking of production, I also don't understand this recent tendency to have the hard cam, during matches, from what looks like the 300 level.

Yeah, 5 hours is far too long. AEW has never been all that considerate of the potential energy level of their live audience. I've long been trying to foolishly WILL the Collision tapings to go before/after Dynamite. Forget the ROH tapings - especially now with the studio; we can do without the Youtube specials. Do half of Collision before, and half after.

Thanks for the report from Winnipeg!

I thought this was a great way to bring Shida back. Throw her right into the mix. This was a big and deserved win for Willow. I'm really happy to see her being pushed strongly. I love Shida raising up the kendo stick. I wouldn't be against a slow descent into evil. I think Aminata dropping a fall to fighting Champion Willow is totally fine. Keep Willow strong, and the Queen needs that kind of match exposure. Especially after a bit of an absence. All that said, I'm with you on being completely ready for Aminata to be pushed.

oh yeah, the spotlights behind both sides of the turnbuckles visible on the hard cam was distracting me during Collision

There are so many distractions on this show. They smear shit all over the bottom corner of the screen during every goddamn match - matches to come, live shows, sugary soft drinks. They also have to read whatever said image is. I wonder if soon Excalibur will be reading those useless Fucking tweets! I'm very much an AEW fan, but their total lack of focus awareness is a bit perplexing. All this nonsense contributes to ppl drifting away from the matches and not remembering anything about the show. It also gives the show a Crash TV vibe. Slow down and gimme a replay here and there. I mean, something that was important five minutes ago is still important, no? There are useful tools in the creation game that are being sorely overlooked.

I like how you all think the Hurt Business is actually looking for new members, we went through this whole passing out of business cards when they first showed up and it never goes anywhere (or in the case of MJF goes some odd places then is dropped randomly with no follow-up). They should add someone, I hope they add someone, I don't think they will.

How do I say this as sensitively as possible?

I’m sure it’s a cultural thing with important significance and meaning , but goddamn, non-Lucha crowds are decidedly not vibing with Mistico’s slow jam.  It’s like a badass superhero entering the ring to “Never Too Much” by Luther Vandross.

Spelled out phonetically for anybody who didn’t take the minimum 2 years of Spanish?

It’s equally funny and sad to see the difference in Mistico’s pop from lucha vs non-lucha crowds.  He walks out in Collision in Winnipeg to crickets and is looking around wondering why nobody is singing.

Showcasing a video package of Mistico highlights with the above for both TV and youtube would benefit the cause as well. The criticism that littered the first Forbidden Door, and prior, about not introducing unknown wrestlers continues to be an issue - lots of room for improvement.

A solid B for the B show this week. Bumped up a half a notch for being on a Thursday. Bowens-Mox was solid. I liked the post match Ospreay attack, and I do buy this act as a killer. God bless dirty scheming Okada! Bayne/Kross squash was marred by their need for stereo assaults. Cute is not the aim. Not a great squash. Willow-Shida was excellent. I like Willow getting the strong win, and I also liked Shida teasing a heel turn. Do it! Please. FTR squash was interesting. London Lightning didn't quite pull off that involved finish. The Conchairto used so often with no consequences has killed any effectiveness it once had. I'm all for Thekla-Hayter despite the fairly logical if less than satisfying build. Juice-Ciampa was a good solid bout. Fairly good Isiah Kassidy promo - not happy about another Quen injury, but happy for Isiah to be out of that beyond stale team. I hope nobody minds my interest in maybe wanting to see him with a mouthpiece like MVP and in a team with Shelton Benjamin. Andrade/Davis-Rascals was fine. Desmond Xavier is a bit to nonchalant at times. It's a fight dude. I like seeing Myron Reed continue to make the most of his minutes. A random 8 man tag is not a 'Main Event in any arena in the world'. I liked the match, but this would have been far better placed in the middle of the show. When you don't have an actual main event, a talk segment to close isn't the worst idea (tho, it does sound like it could). If they'd promoted the return of Hikara Shida for a couple weeks, the Willow match could've been a proper B show main event. Even as the surprise it would've made a better show closer than the NJPW undercard random 8 man tag. Again, liked the work in the match just fine. Roddy and Claudio were particularly awesome. Maybe I'm alone, but I'd like to see Roddy vs. David Finlay pronto. Some weak editing throughout this show exemplified best by the weird jump cut to Yuta's dropkick on the swing. Nonetheless, a fun show if a notch or five below the week that preceded it.

The thing about Cope and Christian doing the One-Man Conchairto is, the reason they do the one-man version is because it's a tag team move that they modified for their singles feud (against each other). They aren't singles wrestlers any more, just do the regular two-person Conchairto again.

Or if that's impossible to do safely, just drop it altogether.
