I always loved his references in the reports/reviews. His great taste drew me further to his genius. 1

It cemented where Ciampa was at in the pecking order and firmly placed him at the Mark Briscoe level (mid card but able to credibly vacation in upper card feuds). The TNT title doesn't have the most solid booking history, so i don't see this as egregious. 2 1

Writing about music is like dancing about architecture, after all. I found out why Best Coast was at the Chaos in Tejas fest shows, the promoter was trying to spread out with genre and do something different. I'm not sure if that's even a plausible idea when the headliners for three days of your fest for example one year are Avskum and Tragedy, Deathreat and Born Dead Icons, and Selfish and Hellshock, but that's what he had in mind. 1

The band is Best Coast which at it core is Bethany Costeno and Bob Bruno but everyone associates the band with just Bethany so they just call her Best Coast too. I gotta say I dug the early stuff a bit more than the super pop later stuff, but I also dug the pop stuff too because Bethany got better as a singer. And her live performances got waaaay better later on. If we're talking about women fronted 2010s indie bands, big fan of Vivian Girls and Warpaint. Actually got a chance to see Vivian Girls on their mini reunion tour late last year and it was awesome. 1

Having just listened to the BVC review of the Juggalo TV show, it sounds like just a company booked by an older, little bit more self aware but now not bound by traditional TV restrictions Vince Russo. Some of his worst habits (and fetishes) are still there, but it's less shocking now than it was 25 years ago. 2

What do they/she? even sound like? The band is Best Coast, it was her (Bethany) and a guy named Bobb Bruno and then people on bass and drums. But she was sometimes just called Best Coast. And they played Chaos in Tejas one year, I think 2013, at the new fake Emos. Timmy, the main booker for CiT, was a fan of theirs as was his and my friend Amy who was basically the person who took care of all the travel. They sounded like stoned Southern California surf pop, mostly strummy jangly hazy tunes. First album was the best one. 1

I’ll reply again since Timmy was/is a friend/acquaintance. Chaos started as a hardcore/punk/metal fest but even early on there was a variety of stuff because he liked a variety of things and also would book stuff for his good friends. Like Big Freedia, the New Orleans bounce icon? She played an early Chaos and Timmy released her first record (and also a 7” from Nicky da B and Diplo). At the same time, it might have been a sign of things to come. Timmy now works for a big indie tour promotion company. And what’s also funny is that a lot of the hardcore kids from that era (and to an extent Timmy) somehow turned into Deadheads. but man, that era in Austin with FunFunFun Fest (and now that I think about it Timmy did a reissue of Big Boys “Fun Fun Fun” ep) and Chaos in Tejas was amazing. Combine with peak SXSW and it was basically seeing any band you might want, and a bunch you didn’t know. 1

Luckily I at least got to see World Burns to Death (once with Kegcharge) twice back then. Man, BASTARD headlined one of those... (My copy of Fun Fun Fun is probably that one btw) 2

You should check out Storm the Tower, they were a great Austin hardcore band from the early 2000s who didn’t quite break out. Chris Pfeffer was guitar in them, also drummed for a lot of bands (Severed Heads of State being maybe the most prominent, was also in the last iteration of J Church), his most recent band Peace Decay is (or was) great if you like that charged political hardcore sound.

Severed Head of State were fuckin' tremendous. I still need a couple to finish out that discography unfortunately (as with WB2D). Actually thinking about it, I'm fairly certain me and my friends talked to Chris in passing for a second outside the venue at Chicago Fest in I wanna say '04? '05? Which was a name change for Thrash Fest after the cops shut that shit down. Riistetyt headlined that. That was the second World Burns show I saw. Me and my friends spent a large part of our time drinking VO in the toilet; one of them got lifted on a cross and crowd surfed during R.A.M.B.O. 1

On CMLL's Informa show this week, they announced the second annual MLW vs CMLL show to be held in May. Lady Frost was confirmed to be returning, representing MLW.
