Adam Copeland is the new Cody/Cole for the Player haters

Copeland was also in that spot when he first came in 2 1/2 years ago with a 15 minute main event with Luchasaurus, that Ricky Starks segment, and how it took awhile for him to leave the bubble and work with more of the AEW roster

I get it. My perspective is that he came in with his working boots on. Trying to prove himself. (Despite this being the week of a pretty lame promo) He also didn't bring with him the drippy monologues from WWE - that showed some needed awareness. I didn't love that Luchasaurus match, but I certainly didn't think it was bad. Mostly I've liked his showcase matches with the Dantes and Buddys. The best one was the Big Bill match from a forgotten Collision. That Starks segment was odd, and I'm not sure the blame is fairly placed on Cope. I liked his PPV match with Cage (amusing use of a MITB contract; tho I'm glad MITB is no longer an AEW thing) and the 'Street Fight' I saw live at a local Dynamite. In that time, he had some nice matches with the House of Black in singles and multi-mans before the ankle break. Clearly a bad decision to jump off that super high cage, but it certainly showed his commitment.  There was also a really fun bout with Kyle O'Reilly somewhere in there from a Vancouver Collision. The Moxley feud was hated for the booking choices, even just his being the PPV cycle contender (fair). Nonetheless, there were a pair of fun trios bouts partnered with FTR that bookended that run. There was also a pretty great Claudio-Cope match in there. He's tried to ratchet up the intensity for the FTR feud, and it's not working. The timing of the Cage/Cope reunion was untidy, but FTR had some nice talk segments (eg. the one at the ECW Arena) to get to their first match. I was at the first FTR-Adam/Christian match. It was a fun match to watch live, but an incredibly annoying finish. The angle that followed was fine, but when it wasn't followed up on for six months it became difficult to care about. This round isn't quite hitting yet, but they have some time. Regardless, I suspect the match will be excellent.

I agree that he came in with working boots on and had a lot of good matches and really seemed to be having fun early on. I was into it, although I didn’t have any interest or desire for him to have a world title. I think the injury kinda killed his momentum and so many new, young, exciting wrestlers have been added that now he seems like just a nostalgia act. It doesn’t help that there is a growing set of fans who don’t have any ties or nostalgia for that era (I have memories but not nostalgia). Could also be argued he’s actually been an anchor on Christian. I’m sure there will be some wild matches to come, but I also won’t be too upset for him to head off into the sunset.

I think people looked at his run since coming back, saw that he doesn't really eat losses/put anyone over who isn't already like tippy top and that kinda soured feelings towards him.

Yeah man.  Christian is at least doing interesting, fun character work and trying something different.  Copeland’s just doing nostalgia work and getting doe eyed, “aw shucks” looks while leading singalongs of his butt rock theme.

I loved Christian in the Sabian/Luchasaurus tag. Less so in the FTR tag which made no sense structurally. But Christian was such a shitty tag team partner in that match and it was super entertaining. I wish we had seen ten matches with them teaming so far since this started instead of just one or two. Very "love to hate" type character in a way that's rarely been done in wrestling.

….but that’s exactly how MJF won the World Title. He got the title shot at All In, and declared himself as a late addition to the triple threat at World’s End. It was, what, a week’s notice or something? Even if they aren’t using it like how WWE does where it’s a cash-in mid-match, they’re still doing the whole “someone wins a World title match anytime they want in the future”. It’s still basically a MITB just minus that one detail, which is what I’m assuming you meant?

There’s still a very real possibility the entire idea of TK declaring future shots like this have to be cashed in “the right way” was just a storyline purely because MJF was involved and they have a long, complicated history.

Kyle Fletcher wearing a walking boot following AEW Collision. Hate to see any wrestler injured even those I don't like.

Yeah, it looked like on the spot where the Aussies caught the Rascalz charging into the corners, rammed them spine to spine and then did stereo overhead suplexes, Kyle got his leg caught under him and when he back bumped on the suplex, his hip landed on top of his foot. So he was out of the match for a bit, and then he came back wrestling one-legged.

It was good seeing how he adapted to it. Usually he likes his high speed adrenaline rush style offence when he's in control, but because he physically couldn't do that, he was forced to change it up and be a plodding immobile heavyweight. And he actually did a decent job of working that style... perhaps going forward (assuming it's just a tweak and he's not missing much time; The fact that he was able to continue the match implies it's not too serious of an injury) he should incorporate more immobile/ slow moving offence.

Okada vs Kevin Knight was really good. It's very impressive how Okada has managed to change up his in-ring approach in moving companies, but kept his working boots on. A lot of times when people who've been big stars in Japan come to America, they decide "Well, these fans don't appreciate the Wrestling aspect of Wrestling, so I'll just coast on my ring entrance for the next few years". Whereas Okada hasn't done that. He's not doing the 'Epic Main Event 6 Stars in the Tokyo Dome' style any more, he's doing 'American Television Entertainment Style', but he's actively trying to (and succeeding in) have great matches in that style.

I thought Collision overall was pretty good but boy Private Party looked terrible. Marq Quen looked like he was moving through molasses the entire match.

Christian impromptu stealing Luchasaurus' MITB and immediate match/win was not 'exactly' the same as MJF taking his match with however long before and gaining victory in said match. The MJF 'title match request' was long enough. To me immediate match cash in is quite different to title match opportunity with reasonable notice. I'm totally fine with the latter. Immediate with the unfair advantage of a worn opponent feels corny for title bouts. Ugh, I really hope that 'very real possibility' you mention doesn't happen, but you're absolutely right.

Some weeks like this, Collision is quietly a near perfect B show. AEW has a big talented roster, and it's nice to see it used well up and down. I'm with @SovietShooter on both Ciampa/Ace Austin being MOTN and Bayne/Kross selling too much. I feel similarly to Mark Davis with the Rascals. I liked both Tag matches. The latter with Fletcher being stronger. I completely agree with @AxB on Fletcher looking great working a slower style. Pretty good outting for the bumping Rascals. Myron Reed-Johnny TV was very nicely contested. I've always liked Reed, and his cat-like movements. He's making good with his shots. The Bayne/Kross-Babes match was mostly good. The post match Babes promo was so fucking great! There's always room for messages of camaraderie and inspiration through loss. This show had a lot of fun promos - namely the Death Riders post and pre-beating burying Quen/Kassidy. I always like Moxley's promos, but he was especially playful here. Kinda feels like they're bringing either both or one of the Privates into the fold. I'd dig that move. The Birds/Mina post/pre promos were good too. Thekla continues to verbally thrill. Ricochet's promos with the GOA and Callis were two of his best. Tidy. I also really liked Ciampa trying to sneak attack Juice following his outstanding bout with Ace Austin. What a wonderful signing Ciampa's been thus far - so too Ace Austin. I only caught the last 5 minutes or so of Okada-Knight, but it was rockin'. Cedar Rapids was mostly lively. Really fun show.

I noticed that too when they made their surprise return.  He bulked up so much that unless he changes his style completely to adjust he's going to keep having a rough time.  I get wanting to do something to help stand out more but this so far is having an adverse effect.

On that note, I prefer Smaller Swerve to Swollen Swerve.

Oh lord no.  Brody is awesome and Buddy is more bland than a bag of white rice.  Brody deserves better than to be once again shackled with roided up Temu Kenny Omega.

Yeah, I'd much rather have Brodido back than House of Black.

Brody King talks on forming Brodido:

“Me and Bandido have been friends for a long time. Since PWG, honestly. Then we went to Ring of Honor together. We went to Japan together. We’ve been around each other for a very long time, so we’re very familiar with each other. We know how each other wrestles. We’ve wrestled each other a bunch.

So when we did this, I think it was just a random All-Star Tag Team Match or whatever, and then our chemistry was just perfect. Somebody, I think, tweeted the word Brodido, and then Tony [Khan] was like, ‘That’s it! Brodido!’ Then we became champions. We had a classic match with FTR. We had a great match with [Konosuke] Takeshita and [Kazuchika] Okada. I can’t complain. We had great matches with The Young Bucks.

I hope that once everything starts to settle down, we can get back to tag team wrestling… You definitely haven’t seen the end of Brodido.”

Excellent Collison this week!  I implore everyone to check it out.  Thought Ciampa and Ace Austin kinda stole the show.  Megan Bayne almost killed herself on a dive which was pretty fucking scary.  Felt like Tony booked a hot in-ring show to possibly extra motivate Okada for the main?  Really good match but not as good as the CC one IMO.  KK had some uncharacteristic missteps but it didn't hurt the match too much

Harley has improved a ton.  I was really impressed with her in the opener.  Though I didn't like the BoW act.....kind of a shame they're not going to be teaming anymore (for now) because I think she still needs to be in a tag team.  Stat?

It would be cool to see Fletcher and Davis win the tag titles at some point.  I've said it before but they've done such a good job with both guys that I don't even see Aussie Open when they're together now.  Dunkzilla has a unique spot in the promotion

Brody King comments on going viral over his anti-ICE stance:

"It has been great, and I feel like, you know, when I was younger, I always wanted somebody who felt like me—on TV or wherever—to express the way that they felt so I could have someone to champion for me.

"And if I can be that for other people who are being marginalized, then I want to be that for them. Everyone tries to bring up the political thing, but in my opinion, it’s just about what’s right and what’s wrong. There’s a lot of wrong happening in the world, and if I can speak out against it, then I will."

Moxley's promo seemed to imply they were done, too. He said something like 'Private Party's not doing so good; we won't be seeing them for a while" and I wondered if maybe this was the time PP "owed" AEW and they were leaving. It was weird.

I always forget that I saw them live because they are both worlds apart from where they were in 2023. I probably would have gone to the bathroom if they weren't facing Vikingo. Crazy considering Fletcher is now in my top 5 current acts and I'm loving Davis lately too

Frankly I'd be fine with that if that's how Quen's gonna be now. A little unfair to Kassidy but he also had all that time way back when to prove himself within the Hardy vortex and he didn't do it then either.

I enjoyed the Brother Zay stuff but I'm a high voter on the HFO in general, at least compared to the consensus.

I'm not sure if it was during or after the Hardy Family Office, but reluctant babyface Ethan Page hitting the Jeff Hardy dance was a big Dean favorite. The HFO was like a bottom of the card Don Callis Family. I've never been a fan of AEW putting multiple tag teams in the same stable. HFO had Private Party until Quen got injured, Butcher and Blade, and Angelico/Cruz. At least in the case of the HFO, it made sense with Matt being a 'tag team specialist'. On Brother Zay, I've always seen potential in Isiah Kassidy. I remember digging a TV match he had with Jericho early on. Quen at times has shown promise too, but not so much a fan of the Private Party gimmick. Especially the presentation - much of their ring attire looks like plastic Halloween costumes. As a team they showed very little progress - everybody looks good against the Bucks. Their minimal mic work has been largely weak. Often annoying. On the HFO, I always enjoyed Matt's mic work as a heel. He was a good heel manager. His AEW in ring work was actually a bit underappreciated.
