Not a screw job, but a legit creative finish. Is that even possible in a Texas Death Match though? Also I know I should let this slide... but Fletcher/Speedball went long enough that there was a 5 minutes remaining call a few minutes before the end, why the hell are you going to a standby match after that? That's being too clever by half. 1 1
caley Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I say this as someone with a staunch record of heterosexuality, but is it just me, or is that David Finlay one HANDSOME man?! The group needs a little work, Finlay and Connors come across kinda same-y, Kidd comes across kind of odd not so much dangerous, none of them are really projecting a star-level personality, and the name sucks. I get that they wanted to drop/de-emphasize the "War" word (Seeing as the US is in one!) but they should've used the opportunity to finetune the whole name until something fit a little better and was less generic/silly as The Dogs (Unless they start acting like dogs in which case I would be all-in!). I think the biggest problem is they're all kind of serious, dangerous wrestler and need someone to break that up a tad. You know who would totally change the narrative/impression of that team?! Juice Robinson! Juice starting trouble before being saved by his serious buddies would probably be a better use of him than him occasionally teaming with one of the Gunns while everyone else is on the IR. 3

Hopefully it's the tag straps that get dropped and we get Hayter, Windsor, Bayne, and Kross beating the piss out of each other every week. Yeah, both the trios and women’s tag belts being held by singles champs is a waste. Use those belts to create stars. 20 hours ago, Craig H said: Christ. Coach is really going to book Hangman to lose and repeat one of the worst mistakes in the company’s history. I hope not, but if they do, I have faith they have a good story planned. TK is a better booker than he was then, and besides, Cody booked that shit himself. On a side note, god damn, Persephone is a star. She needs one of those two promotion deals. I feel like The Dogs v. Bang Bang Gang is probably inevitable at this point whenever Jay is back and there will probably be a turn. It would be a challenge for Juice to be a heel again at this point but I think he can pull it off
Dolfan in NYC Posted March 13 Author Posted March 13 The as-yet-unaired Andrade vs Dorado match has been rated at ***** 3/4 stars. 5
Log Posted March 13 Posted March 13 (edited) Who gives a shit about Dave's ratings at this point? I don't know what's dumber: people who actually think they mean something or people who get mad about them. His ratings were useful when it was hard to watch stuff. You're placing an expensive tape order and you only want the best stuff, so here's a guide for you. Now, you can easily watch everything. Make your own opinion. Edited March 13 by Log 4 2

The people who get mad at them for sure. HE HIMSELF TELLS PEOPLE NOT TO TAKE HIS RATINGS AS GOSPEL, they're just one man's opinion, but most of his critics never actually listen to or read the man Dave's match ratings are a reference point like Leonard Maltin. People I trust due to their body of work, but will often disagree with. Dave rates a lot of stuff higher than me, and a lot of stuff lower, but there's enough overlap that we're in the same ballpark most of the time 3 1

JLowe Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Until the run-ins spoiled the ending, Speedball-Fletcher was an easy free tv MOTYC. 2

I've said the same thing, just add The Dogs now to this list. I really, really, really couldn't care less about some 4th rate NJPW rejects. The crowd's silence should have told management everything they needed to know. Scumbag Ian was a nice surprise, though I'm not sure how I feel about him continuing to rap to Willow's song. Initially, I had said that due to the stipulation, there was no way Hangman was going to lose this match, but now I'm not so sure. 2

The Natural Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Thinking about star ratings, we have our preferred promotions and wrestlers. I have more ***** matches from WWE compared to Dave Meltzer who has a lot less. Meltzer loves the Young Bucks and Will Ospreay. I can't stand either. If we all liked the same shit, it would be boring. 2
The Green Meanie Posted March 15 Posted March 15 "What are we even doing here?!" - you're right, Tony! 1
stuntmanc Posted March 15 Posted March 15 The best thing about Meltzer existing is knowing that every single podcast Eric Bischoff does, he has to find a way to bitch about Meltzer for 10-15 mins...every...single...time. 1
Mike Campbell Posted March 15 Posted March 15 If AEW's trucks have Julia Hart's face on them, then I honestly don't think Danhausen's demand of his face being on WWE's trucks is really that out of line. 1 3
HarryArchieGus Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Oh shit, nobody watched Collision! This was a fun weekend B show. Clon-Kevn Knight was a good strong opener. Clon moves around uniquely/beautifully. Such a fun mid to lower card guy. Good solid Babes promo. Mark Davis-Komander felt like more of a showcase of what their best match could look like, but it wasn't not fun. Very good Dogs promo. The Dorada video was exactly the kind of promo the Main Event needed for TV. They haven't always regularly done these -a huge improvement. Makes for a better presentation. Speaking of which - the National TV Battle Royal promo was very well done. Despite the questionable prestige of the prize. The later Jack Perry promo was very cornball. Thekla/Sisters squash/Stat segment didn't entirely work in any sort of crisp fashion, but like Thekla's promos it got to somewhere kinda good. Stat demolishing the Sisters on the way to the ring was wild. Demand-Austin/Gunn/Juice was solid enough with a strong finish. GOA need reps. The Toni Storm promo was fanfuckingtastic as per usual. Marina's earlier promo was very good too. I have no doubt that Toni will lead that match above expectations. Lena Kross-Mina was solid enough. Kross looked a lot better there. Curious to see how this 2 match set with Willow plays out tomorrow. Andrade-Dorada was an excellent TV main event. Goddamn poetry in motion! Some really good camera work throughout this show (forgetting who mentioned it earlier in the thread for Dynamite) and a nicely edited show. Much more tasteful presentation than taped shows of the past. Also, a very good (if exhausted) crowd in San Jose. The building looks great on TV. Fun show. AEDubbya is rolling along! 4

How do you feel about the blimp demand though? For me, it wasn't so much the blimp itself, more the fact that I wasn't sure if he wanted it for promotion or transportation purposes?
Shartnado Posted March 16 Posted March 16 The much hyped Andrade vs Dorada 5*+ match seemed way more structured and coherent than I would have ever expected for a supposed 5*+ match! And I mean that in a good way, even though one might I don't. It just seems that when a match gets a snowstorm rating it usually isn't because it was psychological masterpiece with an intricate and coherent story from start to finish. Not saying that this one did, either but it was way more of an actual match than just a mind blowing super spot fest! 1
