droneking Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Gabe Kidd is the character in a Guy Ritchie movie who never shuts up and ends up getting headbutted by Vinnie Jones. 6 4

I just think he doesn't really stand out in any significant way - looks, work, promos, etc. He's just another guy, but getting pushed like a star. He looks like a penis with ears 6
Go2Sleep Posted March 2 Posted March 2 People are trying really hard to find a comp for Gabe Kidd, but no one wants to say the obvious one (Benoit, WCW version). Short, intense guy that doesn't jump off the page with his look or promos, but his stiff striking/technical hybrid style and general intensity gets people noticing, especially as the good matches start to pile up in a company with no shortage of wrestlers who mesh well with his style. He's even got the secondary enforcer role in a tweener stable. 3
Technico Support Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Someone please keep Gabe Kidd from buying dogs or a pool.

Nice Guy Eddie Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I also own cats, but I don't look anything like Gabe Kidd. Thankfully. 1

SturmCRF Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I'm a bald man who aspires to own cats when my son is old enough not to harass said cats. I have a beard so as not to resemble a penis with ears. Gabe Kidd is good, but I probably wouldn't want to meet him. This paragraph fails as a haiku on multiple levels. 4

You know you probably could write a haiku? Haku, of course. 2
AxB Posted March 2 Posted March 2 There's a Bot on Discord that, if anyone makes a post with the correct number of syllables, it automatically reposts their post as a Haiku. It's infuriating. 1 1
caley Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Aside from finding Kidd's wrestling kinda...dull...I really HATE his entrance as well. The faux-epic drum intro/theme song, the War Ready nickname, and ESPECIALLY the stupid crawling thing he does. It does not work for me on any level. He looks less "Whoa this guy is crazy, better watch out!" and more "This guy eats postage stamps." This entrance, while still retaining the nickname/music, at least works a little better for me. 3 2

I sense some of the shade he’s receiving here has at least a little to do with ppl buying into his character. If Kidd were the asshole he portrays I don't think he’d have received the opportunities presented to him by the likes of Kingston and Omega etc. I get the sense he’s well liked. There's also always a backlash following Meltzer praise - as if he’s now supposed to be judged against thee greatest wrestlers. Truth is he’s a young guy with a lot of potential and a lot of room to grow. Edited March 3 by HarryArchieGus

FWIW I dug his character when I first came across it. It was when I got introduced to his actions that I decided he could fuck off. 1
The Natural Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Tomohiro Ishii is out of the NJPW Cup with a neck injury. Satoshi Kojima is the replacement. Get well soon, Tomohiro Ishii. 2

I get that Omega is an EVP in AEW and probably has the pull to shut something down. But not in NJPW where he was slotted against who NJPW wanted him against. Same with Kingston on the NJPW Strong show. I havent seen a whole lot of Kidd's work so I dont have a fully formed opinion yet. His character is blender hodge podge dufus stuff tho. Crawling around and rolling his head a lot are some weird manurisms. But his match with Omega was super highly praised. I think the person that portrays Kidd is a dipshit but the jury is still out on his work. 1

I think the person that portrays Kidd is a dipshit but the jury is still out on his work. I read a report following the WK match that stated Omega chose Gabe Kidd for his long awaited comeback match. Sorry, no works cited bibliography, but is it really so hard to believe Omega coming off a serious injury, not to mention his legendary status, wouldn’t have a say in who he’s working? His working NJPW was a favour not a demand. Kingston spoke about Kidd in an interview that made clear he’d been wanting to work him. Yes, I do believe when Eddie Kingston takes a non aew booking he has a say in who he’ll be facing. 3
username Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Given that against Kidd Kingston made just about the dumbest in-ring decision of his life by having his legs suplexed directly into the guardrail we should perhaps be open to questioning the wisdom of his choices at that specific moment in time 3 1

Not with New Japan he doesn't. Omega I'll concede, he has enough tenure and pull to line up who he wanted to work for such a special return match. But Kingston 3000% does not, especially when he dropped the NJ Stong Title in that match. He's not picking who he wants to drop the belt to. That's 3000% not how pro wrestling works at that level. I'll rule this debate a draw. Thanks for playing. 1

Eddie Kingston was planned to work a feud with Gabe Kidd, something he wanted to do, that ended after one match due to an injury. Did he have a say in who he was working? Of course he did. Was it ultimately NJPW’s call when he would win and lose the title - absolutely. That doesn’t contradict the fact that he chose to work with Gabe Kidd.
NoFistsJustFlips Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Brother I dont know what locker rooms you've been in. But no. Mid card guys do not get creative control. New Japan wanted him to drop the belt to Gabe Kidd. So he did. That's the story. Regardless if he was looking forward to it or hated it, its what they wanted and its what they got. Kingston has zero say in that scenario. I will defer from continuing this beyond this post because I feel like this one could drag on for awhile and I dont wanna. So good day to you sir.

Mansplaining how wrestling works didn’t quite jive the first time. You go ahead and believe what you like, brother. Edited March 4 by HarryArchieGus 1
