ExcellenceofAirPollution Posted March 15 Posted March 15 (edited) Also prefer Saturday to Sunday. It's got competition too with USA v. DR @ 8pm EST in the WBC, and The Oscars which have more buzz than they have in years This isn't a one match show by any stretch, but at the same time I don't feel terribly invested in any of the other matches (other than the 21 man for the International because I have no idea what's going to happen or who's in it) Something about the booking of Mox and Takeshita and the Death Riders v. Callis Family hasn't been clicking with me, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for now It's weird because I've been enjoying the shows a lot lately, it's a good card on paper.....I should be more excited for this one. Casey Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Weekend graveyard shift gang here, I love AEW PPVs that are on a Sunday. It means I can ask off and get a 5 day weekend instead of working Friday, off Saturday, and going back to work Sunday (or watching the show while I’m at work). 3

Kevin Wilson Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I'm usually on team "I am paying for this, give me all the hours of great wrestling" but honestly this card is borderline overwhelming. There are only a handful of breather matches, the bulk of it are intense feud singles or tag matches, all of which have ****+ potential and could go 20+ minutes and no one would blink. And they don't do recaps so its just going to be emotional big match after emotional big match after another with little filler. I'm still not complaining but this card is crazy packed and its going to be exhausting by the end. 4

I'm very thankful for the loyal live PPV audience that AEW has, but for largely the reasons you've identified, and the exhaustion (and potential bitterness) that accompanies it, I've been watching/loving AEWPPVs on delay since the start - save for live attended PPVs. I love the marathon on delay. Looking forward to a pre-work early Monday viewing of part 1. 1

JLSigman Posted March 15 Posted March 15 (edited) PREDICTIONS Zero Hour - not sure about the tag match, I don't know enough of those guys Willow retains, but she's going to be hurt/exhausted for later Ricochet's gotta drop the title here, he's been champ forever and not done much with it. Ciampa is the obvious choice, but maybe they'll push some other undercard guy. Revolution - Megabad beat Babes of Wrath Bandido beats Andrade Don Callis family beats Misteco Jet Speed really not sure who's winning the tornado trio match Toni Storm over Marina Shafir Young Bucks over FTR (but I don't expect them to hold the belts for long) Swerve over Brody (as much as I love Brody, he's not winning here) Thekla pin, Kris pin, then Thekla pin Takeshita beats Moxley Hangman wins, but it's a hella pyrrhic victory Edited March 15 by JLSigman formatting 3

tbarrie Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Predictions and ruminations: Boom & Doom beat the jobbers to give a feel-good moment for the people who know who the Hell the Costco guys are. Safest prediction, I think. I think Ricochet retains in the Blackjack battle royal, as a battle royal is a crummy way to end a title reign. But Ricochet complaining about losing that way could be fun, so maybe I'm wrong. Lumping Willow vs Lena and the women's tag title match together, I think it's pretty likely Willow will come away with exactly one of her titles intact. But which one? My inclination would be to belt up Lena, but as others have pointed out, the Brawling Birds are clearly being primed to challenge for (and possibly win) the tag titles. And they're faces. So I'll predict Willow Nightingale retains the TBS title and Megan Bayne & Lena Cross take the tag titles. "Timeless" Toni Storm beats Marina Shafir. Shafir works well as a monster, but Toni is one of the company's biggest stars, so she would win almost all of her feuds in the end. Possibly Marina wins to set up Toni beating her in a gimmick match of some sort later, though. Swerve Strickland beats Brody King. Swerve is more solidly embedded in the world title scene, and has a feud with Kenny that, as I understand it, is only on pause because Kenny was unavailable today. Brody's awesome, but I don't think there are plans for him important enough that he couldn't take the loss. Andrade el Idolo beats Bandido in a hell of a match. Again, Andrade is more thickly involved in the world title hunt - just yesterday on Collision Callis called him the man destined to bring the men's world title into the family (or words to that effect). Darby Allin, Orange Cassidy, & Roderick Strong beat the Dogs, because the Dogs have run roughshod over those guys enough already. (Side note: they should be called "The Dawgs".) Mistico & Jet Speed beat the Okada, Fletcher, and Davis for the trios titles. Okada and Fletcher both have singles titles and don't need the trios belts. And the trios belts are sufficiently unimportant that they can be defended only when Mistico has time to travel north. FTR retain over The Young Bucks. I guess. I honestly have no need to see another FTR/Bucks match, though. The match I'm least looking forward to. Konosuke Takeshita takes the Continental title from Jon Moxley. I don't recall Takeshita holding an AEW singles title, and it's probably time. Thekla retains the women's world title over Kris Statlander, probably not cleanly. I suspect they see too much in Thekla to have her first title reign be a one-and-done. And the men's world title match! Umm... I can't imagine they'd have MJF win unless they thought they had a narratively satisfying way to get out of the "no more title shots" promise, and I can't think that that would be. So... I guess "Hangman" Adam Page gets the title back? But I also think the best long-term plan is for Ospreay to take the title from MJF in England at All In this year, and that works better if MJF has had a reasonably long, uninterrupted title reign at that point. So maybe they do have a plan for getting out of Hangman's promise that they think will work? Heck, maybe the guy who plays Hangman is closer to being ready for retirement than you'd think? I don't know.
Niners Fan in CT Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I think MJF retains because he hasn't held the title long and this is the type of match where I could see him sneaking out a win. It's Hangman's match but MJF is the type of heel that "overcomes the odds" in ridiculous fashion.
Casey Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I think my predictions are wildly different than everyone else in some cases. I like that. Spoiler LAST CHANCE TEXAS DEATH MATCH FOR THE MEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - MJF (c) vs. Hangman Adam Page 2 OUT OF 3 FALLS MATCH FOR THE WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP - Thekla (c) vs. Kris Statlander NO TIME LIMIT MATCH FOR THE CONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP - Jon Moxley (c) vs. Konosuke Takeshita † FOR THE TBS CHAMPIONSHIP - Willow Nightingale (c) vs. Lena Kross FOR THE MEN'S TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - FTR (Bald / Gun, c) vs. The Young Bucks (N. Casey Posted March 16 Posted March 16 7 out of 13 ain't bad I guess. Yikes, I'm bad at predictions! bye Hangman! Toni Storm & Gina Carano vs Marina Shafir & Ronda Rousey coming to a PPV near you
Craig H Posted March 16 Posted March 16 I am so fucking bummed. What a fucking fun, badass, thirsty night of wrestling capped off with the biggest bag over my head punch in the face I can think of. What’s the encore? I get called tomorrow and get told yet another company is moving forward with other candidates? Fuck man. I wanted to talk about how much fucking fun everything was, but damn. All the wind is out of my sails. I hate the Cody stip so much.
Ace Posted March 16 Posted March 16 I have a ticket to Dynasty, but now I'm thinking of selling it. I have negative desire to see Ronda Rousey do anything. 4
Phantom Lord Posted March 16 Posted March 16 This was a really good show. Really long, but good. I don't see where Hangman goes from here now that he can't ever challenge for the world title again. But yeah, great show. They could have left the Darby tornado tag off the show and it would have ended a half hour sooner though.
Cobra Commander Posted March 16 Posted March 16 (edited) wonder how much Ronda would make from AEW compared to how much she'd make from the Gina fight in May so.. since Ronda is Death Rider-adjacent, she's a heel most of the time, but a face when she's around Moxley (and also I consider Ronda to be the face compared to Gina Carano) Edited March 16 by Cobra Commander
Casey Posted March 16 Posted March 16 I'm going to go out on a limb and say nothing will happen with Ronda (physically) until after May, and then maybe they start building for Toni/Ronda at All In London. I would assume even for a freak show fight there's still at least a fight camp, and Dynasty would be smack dab in the middle of it. But @Elsalvajeloco could speak more on that probably. At the very least, a press tour or some shit? I don't know. I mean this is all assuming that Ronda is even signed to AEW and this is just some quick promotion to try and get some AEW fans interested since WWE isn't going to hype it even if it's on Netflix and promoted by Logan's brother Jake.
tbarrie Posted March 16 Posted March 16 6 hours ago, Casey said: † 21 MAN BLACKJACK BATTLE ROYALE FOR THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP - debuting/returning wrestler I thought this was a smart prediction! But as it turned out, not only was there no debut or return in that match, they followed it up with a post-match debut or return in like six of the next seven matches or something. I think the booking team did that specifically to mock you, Casey. 2 1
Cobra Commander Posted March 16 Posted March 16 there is a certain amount of forbidden door energy about the idea of AEW promoting a fight on Netflix, a service tied to the WWE, because the WWE won't promote that fight on their own
Craig H Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Trying to think about this in another way… I guess we haven’t explored what a heel Hangman run would be. At the same time, I don’t know…All I remember is that Cody doing it fucking sucked and even though he should have been challenging for the world title in main events, he never did again. That seemed more like a Cody thing than anything, but it’s honestly hard to tell. Also, we just got done with a long and well told redemption arc for Hangman. The only thing that rivaled it was Toni/Mariah. I like this dude as a face. If he eventually wins it as a heel, does he ever win it again as a face? I will say that this does seem like the next chapter in a very long book. The second Hangman run was full of confidence, maybe overconfidence because he got beat by Joe, couldn’t win it back in the 4 way, was so confident he could win it back in his match to the point he wouldn’t challenge for the title as long as he lived, and even in this match he was cockier and more confident than usual. A heel run is inevitable which would be easier to stomach if Swerve weren’t also a heel, Ospreay wasn’t going after Moxley, Fletcher wasn’t a heel, OC or Bandido or Takeshita or Okada was going to be given a legit shot and, fuck, that’s all I got. MJF’s runs always feel so flat and dull. More than anything, I’m expecting the next challenger will be Switchblade or something. I ain’t quitting, but damn this is such a downer.
Craig H Posted March 16 Posted March 16 1 minute ago, Cobra Commander said: there is a certain amount of forbidden door energy about the idea of AEW promoting a fight on Netflix, a service tied to the WWE, because the WWE won't promote that fight on their own I brought it up in the chat, but the whole situation is odd. WB and Paramount are going to merge, Paramount is the home for UFC, Ronda has a “big” fight on Netflix who is the company that’s home to Raw and nearly merged with WB, Ronda just talked a bunch of shit about UFC, and now here she is in AEW where, yeah, she’s not wrestling until after May, but it’s all very weird and twisted given the various companies involved. In a vacuum, it’s just a booking move in AEW, but nothing ever happens in a vacuum.
