The 2026 Royal Rumble is in the books!  Liv Morgan and Roman Reigns are YOUR Mania main eventers!  But... of course, that was all overshadowed by the return of the greatest wrestler of all time!

glug glug glug glug... dat ting!

🎵  We've got a mind of our own, so go to hell if what you're thinking is not right! Love would never leave us alone. Ay, in the darkness there must come out the light

Meanwhile, the Ruler of NXT made his debut on Saturday as well!

For those of you in Canada, the translation would be "Les Timbits"

🎸 Could you be loved and be loved? Could you be loved, wo now, and be loved?

Alright, that's enough of that... we have to begin our road to the Elimination Chamber! What's happening tonight?

Will they? The crowd were pretty quick to accept a turn by Nikki. I don't really see them having any issues doing the same to Brie, especially if they do heel shit to Rhea & Io.

Hey, look who had a layover in Philly.

I mean, yeah, I'd rather be at work than Philadelphia International Airport.  Underrated in how terrible it really is.

C'mon, y'all, good twin/evil twin is a trope in all of media. Heel Nikki/babyface Brie could easily work!

You know, there was a Fear Street book with a good evil twin/good twin plot. I'm reconsidering my position.

WWE has gotta do something about how they're micing things. For the past few weeks, there have been moments where a ringside voice has come through the broadcast but tonight was ridiculous. You have this wild, disorderly moment to open the show and yet you have the cameraman loudly directing Bron - "ok go go go" and "ok now flip the table". Kinda kills the supposed chaotic nature of the moment.

There were other moments too with Penta getting a countdown to the commercial break and the ref directing traffic during the women's match. That match had a somewhat bad ending btw with Roxanne Perez doing the overly careful table bump and Raquel Rodriguez doing a roll (?) instead of a back bump on the table.

I wasn't too enthused by Roman's Rumble win but after tonight I'm looking forward to more of the two of them facing off on the mic.

The opening was neat though the production issues mentioned already brought it down a bit. I will say shorter segments like this and actual matches are really what need to start these shows more often. They are far more interesting and engaging than 15-20 minutes of talking & entrances.

Je'Von/EGA was decent though felt a bit off. Nothing ever looked bad, but they never quite found a good consistent flow.

Gunther entering to AJ's theme and doing the entrance was a wonderful asshole move. I dug Dragon Lee getting to be the guy to attack Gunther for his bs and actually look good for a bit before Gunther murdered him. Hopefully the eventual singles match gets decent time as its a nice fresh feud for both guys.

Oba destroying the War Raiders looked impressive and got a great reaction. Still makes me said for the Raiders. Guessing this year will see the return of War Machine to the indy scene if they are getting used like this.

Penta/Bronson was pretty solid. Was neat to see Knight continue to get one over on the Vision when helped out Penta late in.

Good to see Dom back and Live celebrating her win. Dug that they used this segment as a lead into Raquel/Vaquer. Said match was good thought the ending was weak. I think the table was maybe a bit too close and so was Raquel for the corkscrew moonsault afterward. Still a solid win for Vaquer and a decent setup for Liv challenging her post match.

The ending with Roman and Punk was too damn long, but it ended pretty well the 5-7 minutes with both airing their grievances. It was a fine setup for their match. Not sure they can it up till Mania, but they certainly have me a lot more interested in their match than I was ever before when it as rumored.

Not a bad night wrestling wise even with some issues. Raquel/Vaquer was easily the standout though I enjoyed Penta/Bronson a good deal. Solid night story wise with the big Rumble winners already building towards their Mania matches and Pearce's feud with the Vision continuing on. Bron does well giving of that wild and pissed off feel. Anyways solid show.

I wonder if that Roman interview going around was to prime him slightly toward the heel end of the meter.

Forgot to say I dug the Oba Femi beatdown and the opening (despite the sound issues). WWE has become too formulaic and slickly produced in the last few years so I wish they'd do more unexpected bits like those.

Man, Stephanie Vaquer's new theme which debuted last night sucks. Bring back Bury Me.

Loved the CM Punk/Roman Reigns segment. Got me looking forward to that now where I previously wasn't. That's definitely going to be the WrestleMania 42 Main Event on Night 2. First time this World Heavyweight Championship introduced in 2023 will go on last. This will be Roman Reigns 11th WrestleMania main event:

1. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar. WrestleMania XXXI.

2. Roman Reigns vs. Triple H. WrestleMania XXXII.

3. Roman Reigns vs. The Undertaker. WrestleMania XXXIII.

4. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar. WrestleMania XXXIV.

5. Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Edge. WrestleMania XXXVII, Night 1.

6. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar. WrestleMania XXXVIII, Night 2.

7. Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes. WrestleMania XXXIX, Night 2.

8. Roman Reigns/The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes/Seth Rollins. WrestleMania XL, Night 1.

9. Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes. WrestleMania XL, Night 2.

10. Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins. WrestleMania 41, Night 1.

11. Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk. WrestleMania 42, Night 2.

Like many, I don’t agree with Roman winning the Rumble and Punk/Roman as a main event is a major indication of where HHHs booking is and kind of what Punk himself used to complain about back in the day with ‘Dwayne’ in the main event.

That said that promo segment was great and I hope Roman is around for a good bit for the Mania build up. It will be interesting to see which guy ends up being more heel in the run up or if they will play it face v face.

I wonder what drew made of all of it.

Edit; Fantasy booking but does Roman reluctantly accept Seth or Heymans help to beat Punk at Mania? Leading to Seth/Roman at SummerSlam?

It’s funny that, in AEW, when people like Kingston or whoever said worked shoot things in promos with Punk, some people were convinced it was real~! and there was heat. But here’s Roman fucking Reigns bringing up Colt Cabana and I don’t see that kinda talk online, lol.

Watching Roman smack Punk in the mouth on the mic was glorious to see.

Outside of Punk/Roman interaction, Gunthers promo/segment with Dragon Lee and the Oba squash(poor War Raiders), i understand now why i don't watch WWE much anymore.  I gave it a shot, it's not for me.

Because Punk tucked his tail between his legs and went back to WWE for the money.  Even if there was heat, his saudi apology tour pretty much cemented what a paper tiger he is, especially with someone who has the credibility backstage that Roman has.  It's a non-issue because Company Man showed his cards.

I thought RAW last night was good. Honestly I wasn't sold on Roman winning the Rumble, but the promo he did with Punk ended up locking me in for this match.

Yeah while I think Punk/Roman would probably work better as a feature match rather than the title one I can't deny they brought the heat for week one at least. Now they just have to maintain it for... jeez another ten or so weeks 😕

Vikings gotta be prepping themselves for the next round of cuts. I feel bad for Ivar as he seemed to find something as a singles that the team never really had together in WWE.

Vaquer's new theme is awful.

Izzi vs. Thea vs. Lola was good with plenty of neat action and moments from all three women. Kelani's late interference was actually a little surprising but sensible given her feud with Lola. You just kind of expected Tatum attacking Izzi instead since that has been the bigger feud. Will be fun seeing how the busted hand angle works out in the Lola/Kelani feud. Sucked to see Thea eat the pin again, but it was a nice chepa victory for Izzi. I just wish that ending powerbomb was a little stronger.

Tony's segment was decent. They are properly building off of his past while still acknowledging the new him. His current character will be interesting feuding with DarkState. I only wish he went on attack tonight though I suppose whatever happens is building towards Stand & Deliver at this point.

Dempsey/LeFleur was a nice showcase for both guys, easily one of the better Speed matches since the title came to NXT. Still, I do wish they would drop the tournament for each challenger format. Feels like a bit much. Then again I would also rather just have the Heritage Cup back.

ZaRuca vs. Elegance Brand was mostly focused on EB being able to take advantage of Sol & Zaria's worsening issues to keep control. Other than a weird point of repeating I thought this was pretty nice. The Elegance Brand are a real tag team with neat moves and decent flow. The crowd hated them here and that worked well for them as there was decent drama every tag attempt. This led to a predictable bad ending for ZaRuca though I find myself hoping ZaRuca somehow manages to mend and lead to a rematch with them going at Elegance Brand in full. Feels like it could be one of the better matches this year if it happened.

Connors/Dixon vs. Lexis/Stacks was decent while it lasted. This was mostly about the ending which saw Connors finally walk off and leave Chase U.

Jacy's segment was alright. The drama and tension was nice enough that it probably should have ending in a small brawl. The decision of next week's tag winner being the one to get a shot at Jacy if fine, but it also feels like a 4-way would have been simpler. I suppose they want the drama of ZaRuca at odds and Wrendal eventually at odds as well during the match. Hopefully Zaria or Wren wins. The crowd was actually into the idea of both challenging a good deal. Zaria actually got more love here than I expected in general.

Carver vs. Legacy vs. Drake vs. Shiloh vs. Lennox vs. Starks vs. Hendry was the exact type of clusterfuck you expect in a ladder match in a mostly positive way with only one or two moments coming across as a bit too obvious in setup. The action was good with some big bumps coming to all involved. Felt like Shiloh and Carver got some decent shine here with Carver in particular coming across a lot more dangerous than he did in the Chase match form last week. I was pleasantly surprised to see Hendry come out the winner. It was a good choice given how pumped the crowd was, the amount of heels he has to work with, and Ricky having already been champ before.

For got to mention last night, but I dug the video they showed again tonight focused on the NXT and recently ex members of NXT being so impressive at the Rumble. It was noticeable that Hobbs/Keys was included there though he wasn't shown or mentioned on tonight's show.

Anyways, the wrestling was pretty solid-good tonight. The women delivered, but the main event was probably the standout just with the type of match it was. Story wise I thought things were pretty solid as well. The men's division feels like its taking more and more of a decent shape each week with the stories and people they are building up. Good show overall.

Ivar has been a trainer for a bit now. I've read that he helps the younger big guys learn how to work as a big man. I'd imagine he's going to end up training full time. And then Erik and his wife can retire to the woods.
