He really made a big deal out of wrestling, so much so that when the Battle of Atlanta was going on, he gave TV time to both sides of the NWA promotional war. (when the Tennessee crew screwed Gunkel's widow Ann out of her shares in the Georgia territory, and Gunkel ran outlaw for a couple years. Jody Hamilton (the Assassin) tells it that Gunkel walked right into Ted Turner's office and said "You're giving me a time slow for my show", and Turner, impressed by the iron ovaries (feminine version of brass balls) of Gunkel, agreed on the spot.

There may or may not have also been a different relationship between Ted and Ann.

listening to the Ted Turner interview with Johnny Carson and Ted's accent and wondering if WCW corporate would have sent him to accent coaching if he was part of the company

solid decision on his part to have his second and third wife be named Jane... really reduces some of the confusion (or causes it)

Ted was born and lived in Cincinnati until he was nine, so he probably didn't have a Georgia accent.

take your pick on what wins out between "father from Mississippi", "mother from Cincinnati", "growing up in Savannah", and the boarding schools

I grew up in Ohio, I feel like my neighborhood was full of people with accents that would not be out of place in Georgia.  With that said, most of them were either participants in the Great Migration or descended from participants in the Great Migration.

Cincinnati is basically in Kentucky. The portions of Ohio and Indiana that border KY and WV are basically the South.

That was a hell of a documentary, back in the day.

Terry Funk: "If I won't get the [knee]surgery, will I still be able to get around comfortably in a few years?"

Doctor: "You shouldn't be getting around comfortably NOW!"

It was the 80s, I used to have wind up godzilla toys that would walk and spit sparks.  Not only sparks, but lit it walk and fall over and still spit sparks.

Wood burning kits, seemed one Xmas we all got wood burning kits...

But hell it was rural MS in the 70s thru mid 80s. We would be  released 4th of July night and New Years eve night with 40 bucks worth of fireworks,a lighter and told "Hey listen to the older kids ok"

RIP Kyle Busch, whose resume includes a short run as WWE 24/7 champion ...

Read Kyle Busch died of pneumonia and sepsis. The former is what my Mum passed away from and the latter made my Sister really ill.
