The USB wireless thing came in yesterday, so I'll spend part of today seeing what the spare laptop can do game-wise

From the Steam sale, I got:

  • Expedition 33
  • Dispatch
  • Tomb Raider Survivor Trilogy
  • Witch Trilogy
  • Command & Conquer Remastered Collection
  • Fallout 76

I had originally bought the Dragon Age trilogy, but it turns out they don't even have the console controller mapping (even in the community made ones, because the console ports were developed with that in mind I guess?). I mainly play on my SteamDeck, so that's a bit of a pain. Requested a refund, got it, and then bought the Witcher games and C&C Remastered Collection instead with the refund.

Expedition 33 runs like complete shit on the SteamDeck, so I'm just going to play that on my laptop I guess.

I've already beat Dispatch (for the first time) while I was at work last weekend, and that's a 10/10 game. Only wish it was longer. But I still need one more play through the get all the achievements (and some I'll never get because hacking in this game FUCKING SUCKS)

Tomb Raider and Fallout 76 I've played before, love them, so no surprises there.

Between all of that, plus I still need to beat FF7 Remake + OG, both Marvel Ultimate Alliance games, and I'm still neck deep in ARC Raiders... I'm fuckin' good for awhile.

Good news is, it works, and the laptop had no problem using it.

Bad news is that laptop CPU is even worse than the one in my desktop, apparently, so no reason to use it to play games. Ah well, good to have around in case Mom KO's the one she's currently using.

Finally got around to figuring out my 2025 Year in Gaming which was a little better than 2024 (which is suprising since there was like an entire month where I didn't play anything)

THINGS I BEAT IN 2025

  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard
  • Stray
  • Spiderman: Miles Morales
  • Borderlands 4
  • Tiny Tina's Wonderlands
  • A Game About Digging a Hole
  • Blue Prince
  • Lego Marvel Avengers
  • Lego Marvel Super Heroes

THINGS I PLAYED (But didn't finish)

  • Avowed
  • Oxenfree*

THINGS I PLAYED THE FUCK OUT OF BUT YOU DON'T REALLY BEAT

  • Destiny 2
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizon

THINGS I TRIED BUT DIDN'T LIKE

  • Balatro
  • to a T
  • Dredge

* I tried Oxenfree via Netflix - had no issues with the game but playing it via Netflix was fucking weird. I will revisit if I ever get it via a different system

This obviously doesn't include all the mobile games I still waste my time with

I wanted to like To a Tee, but just too slow paced.

I bounced off it early after there was a whole thing about the kid taking a shit and you had to hide it

2025 Year in Review:

Games i beat (all are Nintendo Switch except where noted):
Super Mario Bros. Wonder  COMPLETED 12/23/24
Dead Cells: Return to CastleVania COMPLETED 1/17/25
Vampire Survivors (Castlevania DLC pack) COMPLETED 1/25/25
Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom COMPLETED 2/7/25
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order COMPLETED 2/21/25
The Legendary Starfy (Nintendo DS) COMPLETED 2/26/25
Princess Peach: Showtime COMPLETED 3/13/25

Games i started playing but didn't beat:
Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

i'm still planning on finishing this one, but it has not been a good year for my gaming. Obviously by looking at those dates, my motivation completely changed in March. I'm working on re-aligning them but it will take some time.

In 2026, i'd like to give Super Mario RPG and Yoshi's Island (both for SNES) a run. RPG in particular has been on my list for years now.

I didn’t make it that far.

Alright, here's my personal GotY list from 2025:

1. Hades 2

2. Tiny Bookshop

Tied at 3. IDK, a bunch of stuff was fine and generally pleasant, but didn't bowl me over.

Best continuing games (IOW, still getting updates):

1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

2. Balatro

3. Vampire Survivors

This year doesn't have much I'm interested in announced, but I'm sure that between indie releases and surprises from Nintendo in Directs (which has a slate of games announced for this year that I am absolutely not feeling right now). I think the New Horizons and Wonder add-ons are the most exciting things they've got announced for me.

Unsubbed from Lord of the Rings Online for now, I've not played since before the new expansion went in. I know I'll come back to it.

Star Wars: The Old Republic snagged voice actress Samantha Béart for a major role so I might have to give them a month or two of money to get my old Jedi caught up.

I'm playing StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void for the first time, and boy does Blizzard like to rip your heart out early and often. Love the King Arthur legend vibes of this story.

Still playing Marvel Puzzle Quest, and have a half dozen saves in various games I'll come back to or start over eventually.

Advantage of being a pack rat: still having my old RDR1 Brady Games Strategy Guide.

mainly using it for the maps so far.

Still enjoying the arcade mode on Marvel Cosmic Invasion. With health not resetting after every stage, you really need to use all of the techniques available to make it through the game, the parry feature comes in comically clutch in boss fights.

In a move long overdue- EA is shutting down Anthem’s servers on Jan 12

I will never be able to talk about that game without getting enraged

Did a lot of Blue Prince over the last two weeks as my big winter game. I did everything to room 46 more or less on my own but after that started to look at things to figure out puzzles, if only because the RNG meant that you may not encounter a room/puzzle/tool again so easily. I'm nearing endgame and pretty sure that I'm done because some of the things you need to do to get to the very end involve having four or five difficult things line up and it's just way too much of a headache. I did enjoy the experience, but not the dreams of laying out rooms.

Having finished Chapter 1 of RDR1 today, it’s amazing how many missions and side quests I could have prob done from memory. Also, I still hate racing but not as much as I hate RDR2 fishing.

Yeah, I started a playthrough that I’ll probably pop in and out of for 30 minute intervals. It took me a few tries not to completely botch the first Bonnie McFarland race around the ranch. It's one of my favorite games ever (I still probably like it more than RDR2), so I'm curious how a second playthrough will feel. I think the small amount of work they've done to enhance it visually is well done, and the original version still looks good by today's standards.

It also took me six years, but I finally saw the credits on FF7 Remake and FF7 Remake Intermission (gaming ADHD at its finest, and there are definitely other games I’ll have to outright restart and relearn if I ever want to finish them). I’m honestly not sure which final stretch I struggled with more, the end of Remake with the bike section, Whisper battles, and Sephiroth, or the end of Intermission with Scarlet and Crimson Mare leading into the Nero encounter. I did at least manage to take down Nero on my second attempt, mostly through sheer luck.

I’ll probably start Rebirth one night this week before heading out of town. I played the demo and intro a few months ago after needing a mental break from Intermission, and that section absolutely hit all the right nostalgia buttons, peak 10 year old me playing the original vibes.

As if getting hooked on Power Wash 2 wasn't already a problem, I stupidly went and downloaded the demo of Ball X Pit. The good news is that I am going to be playing less 2k for a while and the bad news is that I probably still won't beat any damned games this year because I keep getting sucked into stuff like this.

I forgot how great PW (and now PW2) are at being "Games you can catch up on podcasts while playing"

Excellent story. I still suck at strategic stuff.

Gonna give Evil West a spin next, thanks to @SirFozzie and his free key.

I’m just bad at RDR racing. I lost the first race to Bonnie because I didn’t remember the horse mechanics.  It took a bunch of tries to win the cart race and same with the West Dickens race right before Ft Mercer. I just help but spam the A button.  I don’t remember when hors riding in RDR2 is like but I presume it’s the same or at least similar.

No problem. I see the January Humble bundle is out.. not sure if I should start a new thread for giving away the games I don't want.. need to be up to date on that now that they expire the unclaimed keys after a few months.
