As per usual - release dates are more of a moving target. This is just a sampling of the stuff that is coming out (theoretically) in 2025. Also this list is not all encompassing. I am also ignoring things that have been out but are just getting released on a new console (Animal Crossing: New Horizon on the Switch 2 for example)

Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred is April 28, 2026.

Grim Dawn: Fangs of Astkarn is still just "early 2026" at the moment. 

Titan Quest II and Path of Exile 2 are still in early access development. 

We should have a name for the next Final Fantasy XIV expansion by end third quarter/beginning fourth quarter.

Menace  (Feb 5)

Turn Based tactical science fiction game from the makers of Battle Brothers, folks really liked the demo (like X-Com with actual military tactics, where you pin opponents and flanmk them)

 

Solasta 2 (Early Access - March 12th)

If you're jonesing for more Baldur's Gate 3 style 5th edition D&D, this will be where you go. I believe the classes available in EA will have two subclasses, and mods will be plentiful most likely

 

Slay the Spire II (March)

Yet another card based rogue like. I spent a few hundred hours in the first game, and this may be a chance to break my Monster Train 2 addiction

Similar to the Victoria series of grand strategy games (I believe the designers were ex Vicky 2 modders), it will be interesting to see if this offers a new take on the era.

The search for a good SimGolf style game continues? Will this scratch the itch? I dunno, but I'm hoping so.

Warhammer 40K Dark Heresy: Rogue Trader actually got the Grimdark Warhammer 40K universe right, and the alpha for this one is out. I'm hoping for a late 2026 release

Steel Bounty: A Mechwarrior-like game, that will allow you to control up to a company of War Machines

Clockwork Revolution: Steampunk RPG, the trailers I've seen look really fun in a weird steampunky victorian way

Total War Warhammer 40K: The most watched game trailer from the Game Awards. I DOUBT this will be 2026, but it's going to make or break Creative Assembly

Off the top of my head, Professor Layton, the Expanse, Clockwork Revolution and MLB 26. I’m not very enthused about GTA 6. Especially if costs $100. Since I haven’t bought Yotei yet, I guess I could include it too.

yeah, I didn't add expanse to my list because I'm pretty sure it's at least a 2027 release.

2027 will be the year that Exodus and the Expanse game have to battle it out for my wallet.

I'm trying not to buy anything new this year and shrink the backlog slightly this year.  I'm making exceptions for GTA VI and maybe one or two Switch 2 things (Mario Tennis is only intriguing because it's on my birthday, and it's hopefully not worse than Aces).

You might be in luck! Jason Schreier says the game isn't "content complete" and might get pushed into 2027 (before May). They haven't even started the bug fixing phase, apparently. They're still adding things and finalizing the missions and deciding what to keep in the game.

Schreier pushed back on the reporting of this saying

Starfinder: Afterlight (based off the 2E Pen and Paper RPG) will have a closed beta/alpha in February, and looks to hit early access in Q2 or Q3.

Wow. I watched a stream of that New Game Plus showcase, what a 3+ hour slog with all these talking heads doing previews of stuff. I can’t   Imagine sitting thru that live. Some decent looking games, including th pre Expanse and a war game set during Gallipoli. Not much else floated my boat on first go around.

Fable, Forza Horizon 6 and Beast of Reincarnation are the confirmed titles to be featured

This is the next "God" game from Peter Molyneux

I haven't done the research yet to see what outlandish claims he has made about the game

I'm guessing we'll be learning about that rumored Starcraft project.
