The former is just happenstance as the guy's dad was playing pro hockey in that area. Benoit had been living in (the suburbs of) Atlanta for about ten years. At that point, you are basically as Americanized as can be. It's crazy to think that guys like Regal and Finlay have been here for about 30+ years now. Did Regal's kids go up between Atlanta and England?

I always assumed it was to make them more "relatable" but the official word was always that it was a "better representation" of current situations. 1

Mercedes Martinez, is probably the last woman who was the de facto travelling women's champion before Mercedes Mone (seriously, go look at her Wiki page and count the championships). She didn't have much success in WWE, but she was brought in on the strength of her ability to consistently pop a house in the indies. She is the kind of person who I wouldn't be surprised if the WWE inducted in the hall of fame in a year where they don't have a slam dunk women's inductee. She should retire 100% satisfied with how her career played out despite the fact that she was never the #1 woman in the #1 company. 6
